Luis Landry to the rescue!
Rockets beat the Durants by 12 tonight, 89-77. Rockets once again shoot terrribly, but the dynamic duo of Luis Landry carries the team to their third victory to open the season.
Luis Landry combines for 24 points, 17 rebounds and 4 steals to put the game away in the 2nd half.
Rafer and T-Mac still experiencing shooting woes, but the Rockets' team defense continues to be suffocating when it needs to be. Newsflash!! Yao Ming actually missed a free throw. I'm stunned. And he played another 39 minutes. That's somewhat of a cause for concern.
The good news? Luther Head remained glued to the bench the entire game. And Aaron Brooks looked good, though a little bit turnover prone in his 16 minutes of game action. Oh, and the Rockets won again -that's what is most important.
3-0!

Is that guy trying to guard Landry by chest-bumping him?

As for Yao
As Jonathan Feign has been pointing out lately, a few extra minutes in a game make very little difference when compared to having Yao sit out entire days of practice- and take it easier in the weight room.
13-3? why not 15-1!?!

I need to check the productivity stats for PF position for all team. I think our combo PF has got to be top 10 overall. I still prefer Carluis. Mostly I like the 3-0 Rocket. Also, in mourning for Texas…

great start
I think it’s huge we’ve won our first three as with all the expectations coming into the season we easily could have choked one of these games away. I feel even better about this season and I’m excited to see artest continue to get comfortable with his other mates.

What I think is most amazing about these Rockets are the matchup possibilities available.
It’s the depth and the number of combinations this team can throw out that is just staggering.
One commentator who I respect thought the Lakers were deeper, but I’m not sure. If Brooks and Dorsey develop, I don’t think they are.
Here’s my question. When do we decide to eat the cost on Francis, and waive him so we can pick up a backup C?

It’s been said before, but Francis isn’t the problem. We have an open roster spot- only 14 of the 15 spots are filled. The problem is that we’re slightly over the luxury tax level, and since Francis has a guaranteed contract waiving him wouldn’t remove his salary- we’d still be over the cap. That’s why we waived D.J. Strawberry and Mike Harris- they had non guaranteed contracts and Morey said he wouldn’t keep more than one player with a non guaranteed contract. What’s most likely is that midway through the season, Morey will make a trade that will drop us under the cap slightly, and use the remaining room to sign Mutumbo for the minimum (it would actually be a fraction of the minimum based on the fraction of the season that remains).
The point is, as much as Francis is unnecessary, releasing him would only keep us from potentially trading his contract down the road.

Francis is not an issue, maybe in hindsight, but he costs us very little
He’s trade bait mid season, plain and simple
