Aaron Brooks is pretty good for a midget
Aaron, I hereby officially apologize for screaming out "noooo, why'd we draft a midget in the 1st round!?!?" right after boy genius Daryl Morey selected you with the 26th overall pick in the 2007 draft. As a matter of fact, I can't even remember who I wanted the Rockets to select with that pick. *Cough*NickFazekas*cough*!
Meanwhile, all throughout the offseason, I've been wondering how the Rockets are going to shore up the point guard position because Rafer was our only proven player at that spot. Yet all along, there you were, just under everyone's line of sight(I'm sure you are used to that)...
Now, after almost single-handedly destroying the Suns in the 2nd quarter last night (T-Mac followed your lead after halftime), our backup point guard position has actually become one of our strongest spots on the team!
Added benefit: it means Luther Head never has to play!! Ever, ever again. Double added benefit: you can shoot free throws, too! You have no idea how happy that makes me.
I can't wait until February now. Not only will the Rockets be undefeated that month, but there's a very, very very good chance that the Rockets could put three (3) players on the Sophomore Team during All-Star weekend: Scola, Landry and Brooks. Yup, as I said all year last year - our rookies are better than your rookies. Now? Our sophs are better than your sophs. Alas, I don't see Joey Dorsey being added to the rookie team. Bummer...

Aaron Brooks
Is one of the best back up PG’s in the league. He should be our starter. I liked him last year and wanted him playing every time we’d have alston/head in the game.

I'd like him to start, too
But at the same time, he’s the spark off the bench that every team needs. I don’t think we have another right now. It’s nice to know, no matter how we’re playing at a given moment, that he’s just waiting to get in the game and be a playmaker.

He's the perfect bench player right now
His offensive spark doesn’t fit as well with Yao, Tracy and Ron needing the ball. Honestly, I’d like to see Battier starting and have Artest slashing behind ABZ to the basket for the dish offs.
I’ve been more impressed by his ability to finish even amongst the trees than I have been by anything else from him this year.

dangerous
Brooks as a starter would be dangerous… because for everything he gives on offense, you must admit he has shortcomings on defense.

Its very true!
Why we should him become starter when his coming off the bench most useful than starter.

I think his defensive shortcomings
can be pretty readily covered by Yao/Scola/Crazy Pills in the paint. I also think it’s important that he learn to play well in real game situations with Yao/Scola/Artest/McGrady because come playoff time I want him in those games and not Alston. Give the man another 70 games with those guys and I think the team is better than it would be with Alston at point. It won’t be right away, naturally, but we’ll never know until he’s given a shot.
