Things that blow my mind: we are in 1st place?
The inconsistent Rockets are in 1st freakin' place? WTF?

Hrm
Pretty much all of the SW division has had a tough start. I don’t know whats wrong with New Orleans, San Antonio obviously had the injuries to Ginobli and Parker, Dallas seems to be hitting their stride a bit, and Memphis sucks.

The traditional Western powers are in a bit of a decline
Though as SackLunch said, Dallas is starting to come around.
God knows what’s up with New Orleans, though. They’ve got essentially the same cast plus James Posey, and I don’t think their schedule has been exceptionally difficult. At least Houston and San Antonio have the injury bug to blame.

Encouraging
It’s nice to know that the Rockets have played inconsistently and haven’t been buried already. I see this as a half-full situation, as I think better play will come with some time, and a less insane schedule.
As for New Orleans, except for Paul most of that team outperformed expectations last year. This year they’re underperforming, like Houston is. I expect both will trend to expected levels and improve, but I do not believe NO will equal last year’s record in 08-09

It shows the enormous amount of quality that is in this Rockets squad. To remain first in this tough division despite being a million miles away from best form? Impressive.
