"The Rockets won 53, and while screwing things up in one year shouldn't afford you the chance to screw things up in another direction this year, I still think it's something to be wary of. Maybe they shouldn't have been surprising us. Maybe they were every bit as good as their wins suggested. And that doesn't mean we should discount our own knowledge about the game as a result, that means we just learn from these mistakes, and move on.

That said, you go beat the Rockets. Go on, try to beat them. Try to score on them. Stay in front of those guards. Try to tap out an offensive rebound on that Lilliputian front line. They're so awful, you're so good ... go on. Beat ‘em."

Well said,

That is some good writing by Kelly Dwyer. Nicely sums up the current Rockets; Realistic but any basketball fan would be interested in this team.

Go Rockets,

ouch

AB just got flamed by him…..

"It's who we are," Battier said. "I don't think we're going to get the love of the six foot blonde bombshell. That's what the Lakers are here for. It's alright, I like our demographic."

AB's reputation amongst the stats guys

is a little weird. By the more advanced boxscore-based analysis, Brooks isn’t particularly good. By Adjusted +/-, he looks really bad. And yet Daryl Morey, the nerd-king of NBA analysis, absolutely loves Brooks and guards like him.

So, simply put, nobody knows what to think about him.

That last part made me smile

But that could be because I still feel insane after watching that Texans game 2 days ago.

What I don't understand

is why there is such hatred of the guy. I think he’s one of the best basketball writers around.

I think his assessment is pretty good. I also think we have more offense lurking than he supposes.

If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.

we love Dwyer here...

he knows he shit. And he ranked us the #2 Rockets blog behind ClutchFans (not a blog) last year…… ;-)

because

he “hates” on Kobe or whoeverthefuck, and writes things that are sometimes mildly controversial (if the reader is half-illiterate, I suppose).

He’s great, but most of the commenters at BDL aren’t particularly bright.

i'm going to add this, it's sort of extension of a claim i made earlier

gotta think about the teams surrounding the rockets to help frame their season. anyone notice that new orleans is having their s**t pounded in the preseason (35 pt loss today)? and paul is playing a decent handful of minutes in those contests. things look like they might get pretty hairy for the hornets. i’m also interested in how the suns play defense.

and yeah, +1 to this team having more offensive weapons than Dwyer gives us credit for (although i think that will be altered even more once McGrady returns)

Wafer . . . again. (Marv Albert, HOU v. CLE Feb 2009)
-one of the FEW at Toyota Center who has the Wafer jersey

they haven't really been "pounded."

They’ve lost three games, sure, but those have been by totals of -6 (@ Hawks) and -7 (@ Bobcats).

(Of course, they’ve been playing from behind a lot, and they tend to give up a massive lead during the second quarter, so maybe they really have been getting pounded.)

Anyways, Emeka wasn’t on the floor last night, so maybe that shouldn’t factor into evaluations too much. But it does show that the basic problem the Hornets had last year – depth – is still pretty much unsolved. BPro says good things about NOLA, but I’m not buying it. If Chris Paul, Okafor, or West goes down for any extended length of time, that team is hosed.
