Memphis Grizzlies at Houston Rockets, Nov 11, 2009 7:30 PM CST
I did a game preview but for some reason it didn't publish. Still trying to figure that out.
Anyway, there is little to no chance the Rockets win this game by less than 8
The Grizz are letting up 112 a game. That's bordering hilarious, along the lines of Roger Dorn fielding ground balls.

Scola’s had a couple of iffy calls go his way. A little shoulder on that drive he did and a shuffle-step on that offensive rebound.
One of the nice things about a fairly empty arena:
If you listen carefully, you can hear the players talking. In the first few minutes, Scola was trying to explain to Randolph how he didn’t actually foul him.
Did I just see that?
Scola leading the break with Brooks finishing.

If Budinger picks up some Battier-esqu defensive skills, his ceiling is unfathomable. No idea if he’ll reach it, but he’s got above average smarts, shooting, and athleticism. I’m as excited about him with a year under his belt as Yao’s return in 2010.
yep
he can rebound, pass, handle the ball, and shoot. He’s got a pretty nice future ahead of him, and that’s not just some “Great White Hype”-style shit, either.
This sorta reminds me of a college game.

I like how Bill (correctly) and Clyde (incorrectly) pronounce Budinger’s name differently throughout an entire conversation about him. I think Bill’s making a point of saying it correctly and hoping Clyde picks it up. Wonder if he’ll mention that at half.
talk about whatever you want
(well, whatever basketball-related topics you want)
it’s halftime, after all. And it’s not like this is a particularly exciting game.
I don’t know what to think about Charlotte. We’ve got a few teams like that this year: terrible on one side of the ball and spectcular on the other. Charlotte’s one of the best defensive teams in the league right now, but they’re the worst offensive team in the game.
The Raptors are trying the opposite – league’s best offense, worst defense – and it’s having similar results.
When they suck, they really suck. When they’re good, they’re just alright.
What’s really bad about both of those teams is that they don’t really have much of a future.
I keep being surprised how close this game is.
I feel like Houston’s been in control the whole time.
I can’t really tell what it is that Memphis does well.

Randolph dropped the ball on Scola, who was on the ground after the bucket - and got the inevitable T.
FWIW
If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.
I’d rather have him on the team (even injured) than…
… Brian Cook.

The Toyota Center looks vacant.
Is this usual? Even for a weekday vs. a weak team? I thought ticket sales were robust this year.
Sigh
Living in Malaysia, I’d love to watch an NBA game in an arena. Even if it’s against Memphis.
Well your plight is worse than mine.
But the closest I came to a Rockets game in Houston was a Hotshots game in the Summit.
two things:
1) Wednesday vs. a team no one cares about
2) The lower bowl is always kinda sparse. People hang out at the bar. Go figure.
I’d expect it’s a combination of being on a weeknight, and the opponent being Memphis.

Actually, it's the lower section that is the emptiest.
The upper section was, I dunno, about 7/8 full. Also, it took a while to get in, they decided to “wand” everyone coming into the stadium. I don’t know why.
If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.
From what I understand
They have sold more season tickets this year than any season at Toyota Center to date.
So it’s mostly people not showing up

I've no doubt those seats were sold.
People come late, leave early, especially in the lower mid-court bowl. It’s a shame that’s what seen on TV, as the upper section is usually rocking.
I think getting through the first round of the playoffs was a huge mental barrier for fans here, and the Rockets broke through it. I think they sold a TON of season tickets during the Portland and LA series, I know they sold some to me.
I bought a cheap seat, because I wanted to see how showing up for several dozen Rocket games would be. If I have the money next year, I will upgrade the seats, I think.
If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.
I wonder the same thing about the Rockets.

Read DJ Turtleface's posts over at SOV
I think a lot of Grizz fans understand that Lowry is pretty good.
I’ve been a fan of that organization since 1976…

Well, I understand while people in Houston are bitter about them leaving…
… but I’ve lived in NY State all my life so the team’s moving didn’t effect me like it did those fans living in Houston…

I’m surprised that the Grizz…
… aren’t better than they are. They have a few promising young players on the team.
They should be getting better but they aren’t…

No way.
Chemistry > talent. Too many guys who need the ball to be effective, and Randolph doing that negative win-share thing he does so well.
Pops is in for Luis…

"It's who we are," Battier said. "I don't think we're going to get the love of the six foot blonde bombshell. That's what the Lakers are here for. It's alright, I like our demographic."

They doing that so they can get cook mins in blow outs so they can trade him?

No, he is averaging 2.5 points a game.
In 2 or 3 games… something like that.

He should be happy he’s not playing for Memphis anymore.
Why should he be “bitter”? At least they did him a favor and got him outta town.
Rudy Gay is the one who should be bitter… towards Houston. He probably is, too…

Who knows why players have grudges.
Artest hates us because we “messed up his Bird rights.” Which means noone can sign him to a 6 year max contract, ummm, until his current contract is up.
Maybe but they still did him a favor by letting hell out of that hellhole…
… betcha Conley, Gay, and Mayo wish the Grizz would trade them away, too…

Yeah, without looking it up, I honestly don’t know what they got out of it except an Orlando pick and, presumably, money (probably spent on Iverson).
Let’s see: they used that pick on Demarre Carroll and they got Adonal Foyle.
they saved Lowry's meager salary
and, in return, they got a very late draft pick (and, remember, this was at the deadline, so we all knew that the Orlando pick was going to be late).
Dwyer had a pretty good analysis of the deal at the time, and he even thought that Orlando should have just made the deal on their own and taken Lowry.
Just read that article.
Dwyer had good analysis. The fan comments? Houston messed up trading a “fan favourite” like Alston that “anchored the defense.”
don't read the comments on bdl
the posts from KD and Skeets are great. Most of the people who comment, however, are idiots. 99% of comments are either:
1) “Y U H8N KOBE U FCKUN SUX”
2) “lol kd dont no shiiiiiit”
3) spam
Good…

Man, I almost bet on a 30 point spread for the Rockets...
… and I almost had it, would have had it, but Adleman decided to put BRIAN FKING COOK in the game. BAH.
It was only $10, but still. I called it with 10:04 left in the 1st! Then Brian Cook has to come in, miss shots, get fouls and just all around suck.
He obviously doesn’t want to play here, can we just buy out his contract and send him packing?
(not really, but maybe a little)
Garbage time is the absolute death of those giant spreads. Beware.
Also, the NBA as a rule, doesn’t like blowouts, and sometimes the reffing gets a little funny at say, 25+.
If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.
