Charles says the Rockets screwed him out of 3 mil
Here is a link to Inside the NBA:
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Charles says that the Rockets screwed him out of three million dollars. He says that he was promised twelve million but only got nine million. We finally get the reason why Barkley is still bitter with the Rockets. He even goes far enough to call houston "your Rockets" when he's talking to Kenny. It was always really obvious from his commentary that he was against us. It might be old news but I just thought it was interesting to post.

I sort of doubt he got screwed out of anything, he may feel he did, though.
It’s typically pretty hard to jack around with NBA contracts without the union screaming bloody murder. Also, my understanding of the Rockets reputation is not that of being a cutthroat management. They’re still a business mind you, not a charity, but I’ve never heard they were a particularly nasty one.
Maybe if he hadn’t gambled away millions this wouldn’t have come up.
If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.
I agree with you 100%,
9 million back then is around 13 million in today’s value and he believed he was owed 12 million which is around 18.5 million today. I really dont think he was worth that much in his last few years.

He would have lost that 3 mill in a casino years ago,
so he should drop the bitterness.

Yeah
It shouldn’t matter, you know. If he’s owed the money, he should get it. It shouldn’t matter to us what he would do with it, but it does affect how you think of it, doesn’t it? It’s not like he’s building hospitals in Africa with the money, he’d just piss it away, and that colors our thinking.
Also, I can’t find any record of a lawsuit against Houston by him (and he filed one against Nikon for using his image without compensating him, so it isn’t like he’s not somewhat litigious).

That explains it...
Give you one guess which TNT commentator said the Rockets would be the “worst team in the West” this year.
Let it go, Chuck.

Funny thing is…
… that whenever Rudy T’s name is mentioned, all I’ve ever heard from Chuck was great things.
So I don’t think he is 100% against the entire organization, just certain parts of it.
Of course, he may also be bitter over the fact that 2 of his Suns teams had Houston down 3 games to 1
(in 1994 and 1995) and both times his teams choked. Sure, he accepted the trade to Houston later on but I’ll bet that the memory of those playoff losses to Houston when he was a Sun still haunt him a lot.
That all said, he needs to get over things. If he’s hurting at all for money (I find it hard to believe he is, though) then he has nobody to blame but himself. He obviously has a terrible gambling addiction which he doesn’t seem to have done anything at all to fix…
I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...
It's amazing how much money you can lose playing in the VIP areas of casinos...
or playing high stakes “skins” with a golf swing like his.
I once watched a guy lose 80,000 in 10 minutes. He just had them bring out a $400 bottle of bordeaux and get him another 100k in chips. That was a really expensive bottle of wine…
(I was a guest of a conference organizer, so I had VIP access, if not a VIP stake.)
Go on, try to beat them. Try to score on them. Stay in front of those guards. Try to tap out an offensive rebound on that Lilliputian front line. They're so awful, you're so good ... go on. Beat ‘em. - Kelly Dwyer on The Rockets
I'm thinks it may have been a bonus incentive
They probably said they would pay him 3mill if the rockets won the finals that season, inwhich we didn’t so he didn’t get paid the bonus, therefore becoming the greatest PF not to win a title
