Joey Dorsey Assigned to Rio Grande Valley
Rockets have assigned Joey Dorsey to D-League Vipers
It's a disappointing, but not surprising move. Dorsey was rotting on the bench - at least now he'll see the floor. You have to wonder, though, exactly how much longer the Rockets are willing to wait on a guy not so different from two other young players already on the roster.
Haven't heard anything about who will be replacing him on the roster. Perhaps Will Conroy? Guess we'll have to wait a little while to find out.
In the meantime, check out Sactown Royalty in anticipation of tonight's surprisingly decent matchup with the pesky Kings.

From my understanding of it, nothing really changes in regards to the roster. Dorsey was inactive (along with Yao and McGrady), and inactive players can be assigned to the D-League without losing their rights. So the Rockets can’t add another player to the roster. It’s just that there will be one fewer suit sitting on the bench.

You are correct sir! Dorsey still counts as part of our 15 man roster… along with Yao and Tmac. There will be no replacement.

I get the feeling
that Dorsey may be more useful next year if Scola walks. I’m not saying Dorsey=Scola, nor are their skill sets similar in any way, but if Scola does leave at the end of this season, Landry would move to the starting 4, and Dorsey could back him up with Chuck.
How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!

nonononono
do not even suggest the possibility or even the concept of Scola not being a Rocket next year. I won’t allow it!!!!

As I have said,
Dorsey just seems more and more like a Denver Nugget to me. He’ll be included in some deal, if we make one. The D league is still in preseason, though, so my offhand opinion is that this move bodes ill for Dorsey.
I do expect to see Conroy at some point in the near future. Brian Cook’s back look shaky, very shaky.
If the Red Nation apparatchiks start talking about a Five Year Plan, I'm out of here.

I don’t know if it “bodes ill.” I mean, it allows him to practice with the Vipers, right?
My main concern would be that Dorsey reacted poorly to the D-League experience last year. Hopefully he’s grown out of that attitude (the Vipers are his best chance to get some experience and play). The Rockets have total organizational control over the Vipers, so we know he’ll get playing time, but Dorsey has to utilize it correctly.

he was injured the entire time he was down there last year… so he never really had a chance to prove anything.

Well as for boding
Half-Empty Boding:
The reason I say that is, he can’t seem to get past Cook to be the 12th guy on the bench. Except for when Budinger was out, I think he’s been inactive the rest of the time.
He’s certainly more athletic than Cook, and is a better rebounder and shot blocker. He can’t shoot 3s, but plenty of Rockets can shoot 3s, so you’d think Dorsey would be at the end of the bench instead of Cook, or possibly Pops. But he isn’t.
Half-Full Version
Maybe they think he just needs lots of minutes, whereas they could care less if certain other guys get them.

here's hoping
I hope they still have Joey’s VIP parking space at the local strip club there…

Atleast he'll play in the Rockets system
Who knows, if he plays well, we could use him if an injury (I really hope not) came up, and he should be more or less on the same page with the team.

Also
I sense a Rumination from the Bench coming on.

nah
It would be exactly like last year’s “Rio Grande Valley” one.

Perhaps there is a new fashion in lucite shoes to discuss?
I wouldn’t know.
