Yao Ming

Yao has to has to be one of the most loyal players i have ever heard of. I mean this man would give anything for his country. Well to get to the point he has asked for medical clearance to play with the Chinese National team in the summer of 2010. This is great for him and everything, but it might affect the rockets long term and short term. He once again might get hurt because of the wear and tear due to him playing a full year of basketball. I mean if this is the case whats the point of him sitting out if he is always putting the national team ahead of the rockets. I mean don't get me wrong I love the guy and he is a fantastic player, but he is just really stubborn when it comes to the team that is paying him.

He has a professional commitment to the Rox.

He needs to stop playing for China. We need him healthy for next season.

Your a ten, but I'm on eleven!

what?

Yao loves playing for China. Why would we ever want to take that away from him?

I thought he had said he would stop playing for China

I can’t really get mad at the guy for wanting to represent his country and help spread his sport within his country, as I would do the same if I was in his position. As a Rockets fan though it bothers me that our star player continually risks his professional career for a country that does not see much success in basketball tournaments even with Yao playing. Hopefully he needs clearance from the Rockets medical staff and they say no.

If he is still rehabbing then...

…that would be a diplomatic way to tell him “no”

That would be the easiest scenario

but I hope he is done rehabbing by the summer so he can start to get into game shape. I guess if he has just finished rehabbing by the time the Champs come around than he may not be in good enough shape to play and we could say no

I am hoping Yao is just asking for form's sake.

And then the Rockets respectfully say no, and Yao abides by that decision.

Everyone is reading something into nothing

Yao would actually be well served by playing for the Chinese National team next summer. Do we really want him getting into game shape the way McGrady is doing right now?

No

We want him to get into game shape through the pre-season, like everyone else does

Yao's comments

i think his comments were a little off because i mean why would he be trying to get medical clearance to play in the summer if he didnt feel good enough to play

by Texan Youngster on Dec 22, 2009 3:56 AM CST reply actions

my only concern is that he gets hurt next season because that is supposed to be the season we are championship contenders

Yao's future

does anyone believe that yao will be back if he is hurt again next season. I believe not sure that his contract is up in 2011 right, so would he get an extension to retire as a rocket

actually

Yao is a potential free agent THIS summer… but he’s almost certain to re-sign with the Rockets for a max deal.
