Rockets @ Clippers: 12/02/2009, 9:30 CST
Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers, Dec 2, 2009 9:30 PM CST
I'm not going to pretend that I know all that much about the Clippers this season. Here's what I do know:
The Clipshow features the 24th-best offense in the NBA this season and the 16th-best defense. As you all know, 1st-overall draft pick Blake Griffin was injured in training camp and won't return for a few more weeks. Chris Kaman started the season off with a bang, but has slowed down quite a bit from his initial pace. Eric Gordon continues to impress in his second year, while Al Thornton looks surprisingly good to start the season, though I wouldn't bet on that continuing. Despite an epic meltdown against the Grizzlies on Sunday, the Clippers have been fairly hot over the past few games.
On the Rockets' side, Carl Landry should be getting the first start of his career, though Scola will apparently be available, sporting stylish new goggles.
There. You're all caught up.
In honor of our shared history, here's Cuttino Mobley dunking on Lamar Odom.

Correction:
it was the Grizzlies who melted down, not the Clippers. Oh, and Scola will play, and Eric Gordon is definitely out.
Foo.
Looks like the Grinch stole Christmas early this year. :p

I don't like Scola's glasses
he should have gone for the old-school goggles. Infinitely moar badass.
I keep waiting for Yahoo photos to show ’em…

Yeah I'm still waiting for a pic too...
dam working and only getting to see the play by play
"We obviously didn’t know the scouting report that well on Andersen. We knew he’s a shooter but we didn’t see him play at that level." Phil Jackson on underestimating the aussie
That’s his second dunk so far, isn’t it? (I only have the Yahoo play-by-play to go by, so I’m kinda flying blind here…)
by DribbleHooper on Dec 2, 2009 9:55 PM CST up reply actions
yeah
it was a nice dunk, too. Driving off the left wing, one-handed dunk over Kaman.
The first was pretty similar, but of the two-handed variety.
Yes, the "Ariza drive and dunk" is much better than the
“Ariza drive and unconvincing, weird looking, layup thing that never goes in” I think I even commented to the effect that if Ariza is going to drive in that close, he should dunk it. Glad to see he’s listening to me.
Go on, try to beat them. Try to score on them. Stay in front of those guards. Try to tap out an offensive rebound on that Lilliputian front line. They're so awful, you're so good ... go on. Beat ‘em. - Kelly Dwyer on The Rockets
AB is on fire!!!
"We obviously didn’t know the scouting report that well on Andersen. We knew he’s a shooter but we didn’t see him play at that level." Phil Jackson on underestimating the aussie
Add to that, that Adelman pulls Budinger just as he’s going 4 for 6 with twelve points, and puts back in Ariza who’s 3-10 with seven points. (That probably wasn’t the exact substitution, but I’m sure you get my point.) I suppose there’s a valid reason for this — probably what passes for D for the Rockets these days — but if there is, I remain ignorant of it.

The Kaman/Camby thing is a problem for us right now.
We can’t really hold either one off the boards that well.

i just played this match up on nba live 10

Im usually good at sports games, but 2k10 is thrashing me.

i had some trouble on offense at first
i was trying to avoid shooting with ariza as much as possible, but somehow he ended up leading with 22 points

and brooks' shot was horribly off
i think he made a three and maybe 2 layups

I don't know what to think about the My Player mode
as much as I like the RPG-Sports Game combo, I get pissed off at the grading system. It is not my fault if my teammates suck at rotating on defense or if my man scores on the fast break because somebody threw up a bad shot.
Also, defense doesn’t exist in these games, which is both fun and maddening.
in nba live 10
it’s pretty hard to drive to the hoop

It IS your fault.
I like the association though, where we get this roster plus Yao and McGrady.

You know what I'd like to hear?
Broadcast teams that aren’t all fucking surprised when “holy shit omg chuck hayes (he’s only 6’6” you know that’s a foot shorter than yao ming that’s a whole twelve inches I tell you what) can’t guard OUR CENTER" turns out to be a load of crap.
We pity and despise them.

…I’d get a giggle every time I hear the Chuck disrespect, and the subsequent exclamations of disbelief as Chuck shuts down their centers.

I heard he was struck by lightning at a charity golf event.

earlier
the clips’ color commentator said that “The Clippers just have too many weapons for the Rockets to handle.” I lol’d. Then I looked at their offensive numbers and lol’d some more.
Then I looked at the tied score and cried a little, but went back to laughing.

I'm liking the beard and 'do
it’s probably the fact that he picks and chooses which games he’ll show up for.
Hmm. I think you've put your finger on it.
You never know when he’s going to be half-assing it – for a game, for a play, for a season, for a quarter, who knows?
Of course you know,
it’s when he gets that pouty look on his face and you can see him think to himself “Why the fuck did I ever come to the Clippers/Warriors/NBA?”
best beard in american history...
and i’m not american
"We obviously didn’t know the scouting report that well on Andersen. We knew he’s a shooter but we didn’t see him play at that level." Phil Jackson on underestimating the aussie
though I suppose that relies upon a questionable definition of "beard."
If not MVB, then certainly billy gibbons
googled him
I’m pretty sure they look like some bad arse side burns
"We obviously didn’t know the scouting report that well on Andersen. We knew he’s a shooter but we didn’t see him play at that level." Phil Jackson on underestimating the aussie
Perhaps it’s because he never met a shot he didn’t like… and can go on streaks of hitting them at a ridiculous clip.
A shooter with no conscience who occasionally gets rewarded for it can be very, very annoying.

I missed that whole quarter
by Carlos_HoustonSportsFanatic on Dec 2, 2009 11:52 PM CST reply actions
three point shooting saves the day
lost the turnover battle, barely won on the boards (and trailed through most of the game), shot fewer fta…
but shot >50% from three point land, while the Clips went 1-14. That’ll do it.
1st half we were getting pounded
on the glass though so it was good we came back in the 2nd to win the battle on the glass.
just like the good old days
"We obviously didn’t know the scouting report that well on Andersen. We knew he’s a shooter but we didn’t see him play at that level." Phil Jackson on underestimating the aussie
That was the most out of nowhere 4th quarter ever
Our line up of Lowry, Budinger, Ariza, Landry, and Andersen just took the Clips’ starting 5 apart! After Camby made a layup to make the game 86-82 Rox, the Clips DIDNT SCORE FROM 6:52 IN THE 4TH UNTIL BARON’S 3PT FG AT 0:01.1.
We won because our 2nd team completely shut down their 1st team in the 4th quarter, and kudos to Mr. Adelman for not going to the starters when it wasnt needed, especially on the front end of a back-to-back.
Although it was the Clippers…Great Win Rockets!!

is that nobody played more than 33:40, and all 9 Rockets who saw action played atleast 20 min, great team win.

as i always believe we got platoon of talent s esp. the 2nd stringer of B-udinger
,A-ndersen, L-.owry, L.-andry ( + T-Riz. ). This squad protects and even poundered the clips deeper into the hole.. No let-up, full of agressiveness and heart.. Hats off guys!
