Rockets @ Clippers: 12/02/2009, 9:30 CST

Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers, Dec 2, 2009 9:30 PM CST

I'm not going to pretend that I know all that much about the Clippers this season. Here's what I do know:

The Clipshow features the 24th-best offense in the NBA this season and the 16th-best defense. As you all know, 1st-overall draft pick Blake Griffin was injured in training camp and won't return for a few more weeks. Chris Kaman started the season off with a bang, but has slowed down quite a bit from his initial pace. Eric Gordon continues to impress in his second year, while Al Thornton looks surprisingly good to start the season, though I wouldn't bet on that continuing. Despite an epic meltdown against the Grizzlies on Sunday, the Clippers have been fairly hot over the past few games.

On the Rockets' side, Carl Landry should be getting the first start of his career, though Scola will apparently be available, sporting stylish new goggles.

There. You're all caught up.

In honor of our shared history, here's Cuttino Mobley dunking on Lamar Odom.

Correction:

it was the Grizzlies who melted down, not the Clippers. Oh, and Scola will play, and Eric Gordon is definitely out.

I don't like Scola's glasses

he should have gone for the old-school goggles. Infinitely moar badass.

Yeah I'm still waiting for a pic too...

Ariza

finally remembered he can dunk

by Only_A_Lad on Dec 2, 2009 9:54 PM CST reply actions

That’s his second dunk so far, isn’t it? (I only have the Yahoo play-by-play to go by, so I’m kinda flying blind here…)

by DribbleHooper on Dec 2, 2009 9:55 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

it was a nice dunk, too. Driving off the left wing, one-handed dunk over Kaman.

The first was pretty similar, but of the two-handed variety.

by Only_A_Lad on Dec 2, 2009 9:58 PM CST up reply actions

Yes, the "Ariza drive and dunk" is much better than the

“Ariza drive and unconvincing, weird looking, layup thing that never goes in” I think I even commented to the effect that if Ariza is going to drive in that close, he should dunk it. Glad to see he’s listening to me.

Go on, try to beat them. Try to score on them. Stay in front of those guards. Try to tap out an offensive rebound on that Lilliputian front line. They're so awful, you're so good ... go on. Beat ‘em. - Kelly Dwyer on The Rockets

Irritating that the D is suffering so much that we’re tied at halftime with the Clippers. Ugh.

by DribbleHooper on Dec 2, 2009 10:38 PM CST reply actions

Add to that, that Adelman pulls Budinger just as he’s going 4 for 6 with twelve points, and puts back in Ariza who’s 3-10 with seven points. (That probably wasn’t the exact substitution, but I’m sure you get my point.) I suppose there’s a valid reason for this — probably what passes for D for the Rockets these days — but if there is, I remain ignorant of it.

The Kaman/Camby thing is a problem for us right now.

I don't know what to think about the My Player mode

as much as I like the RPG-Sports Game combo, I get pissed off at the grading system. It is not my fault if my teammates suck at rotating on defense or if my man scores on the fast break because somebody threw up a bad shot.

Also, defense doesn’t exist in these games, which is both fun and maddening.

That was the most out of nowhere 4th quarter ever

Our line up of Lowry, Budinger, Ariza, Landry, and Andersen just took the Clips’ starting 5 apart! After Camby made a layup to make the game 86-82 Rox, the Clips DIDNT SCORE FROM 6:52 IN THE 4TH UNTIL BARON’S 3PT FG AT 0:01.1.

We won because our 2nd team completely shut down their 1st team in the 4th quarter, and kudos to Mr. Adelman for not going to the starters when it wasnt needed, especially on the front end of a back-to-back.

Although it was the Clippers…Great Win Rockets!!

Sheed also bought some words about flopping in the NBA (for the low price of just 30,000 $). "They've got to know that he's a [darn] flopper. That's all Turkododo do."
Mutombo, Ewing and Yao at the restaurant...
MUTOMBO: "The chicken is the bomb."
EWING: [Rubbing belly] "I gotta go work out tonight. I'm full. You got a treadmill for me?"
YAO: " Leave your car keys here and run home. I'll give you the keys tomorrow."
