Poll: Budinger out at least two weeks with sprained ankle; What should the Rockets do?
Budinger out at least two weeks -- Houston Chronicle
It's also worth noting that while I assumed we may have been looking to replace Budinger with a guard, Morey was looking in a different direction. Here's an exert from the above article:
The Rockets are not expected to add a player to their open roster spot with Budinger out. Had forward Carl Landry been out for more than just Saturday’s game, however, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said the team was likely to sign Mike Harris, who is averaging 26.2 points per game for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA Development League.

Ariza continues playing extended minutes. Pray that both pg’s have good games so they can stay on the court longer, AB has good offensive nights to compensate for his lack of height at sg. Tracy is playing 3, relieving battier and not ariza who is our designated 2, i don’t see him playing guard yet in the up-tempo game plan. Taylor would be nothing more than a gamble, same with a new player. I don’t foresee any major changes in how the team would approach games in bud’s absence.
Don't get you people saying McGrady needs more minutes
I still wouldn’t give him more than 10, as microfracture surgery needs a long, long time simply to get back into game shape and we really should be delicate with T-Mac and minutes for quite some time.
I would say maybe increase his minutes slightly from 7 to say 10 at most, and give Taylor some more minutes, as well as increased Brooks-Lowry. I really don’t want Trevor pushing 40+ minutes for multiple minutes, particularly for the next annoying week.

I’m actually really surprised Jermaine Taylor hasn’t been off the bench at all, especially in the most recent game against OKC. T-mac is injured, so it makes sense to limit his time. But Jermaine Taylor is perfectly healthy and was doing fairly well in preseason, so it’s been puzzling to me as to why he hasn’t been getting any action on the court.

Even so, you can’t play Ariza for 47 minutes every night (clap clap).

nor should he
Ariza sticks out to me as a new Rafer Alston. Some nights he’s on but most nights he’s 5/24 or some other disparaging percentage.
I know
but slowly increasing T-Mac’s minutes, along with playing ABZ and Lowry together more could take some of Buds’ minutes. I think it would be stupid to think Taylor can come in and play the amount of minutes Bud has been playing.
jason: Ariza is alot like Rafer offensively right now, but Ariza is still developing as a player and is much much much better on defense than Rafer.

It seems like you guys aren't in love with the D-League
But just in case, I posted something over at RU on some options.

I think T-mac should play a little bit of the 3rd and Taylor could get anywhere from 3-10 minutes

They need to bring T-Mac along slowly…
… rushing him back too fast from microfracture surgery isn’t wise. Just ask Chris Webber about that.
They should either give Taylor some minutes or sign someone from the Vipers…

I don't know...
…the replacement-by-committee approach seems to be working alright, so far. Still, JTay probably deserves a little more run than he’s getting.
Of course, the other guards’ minutes will have to go up…
… I don’t think you give Taylor all the minutes Bud was getting.
But they should get him into the games at the right times in order to rest the other guards whenever it is possible and at times when the potential drop off in the quality of play won’t hurt the team…

will conroy is ready to play.
AB can play as a SG if they are both on the floor. much like lowry, conroy is stronger and capable of guarding a SG.
Rockets>>>>>>Jazz
Texans>>>>>>>Titans

D-league
So far, I think Anderson is doing good with the extra minutes he’s getting
I wouldnt mind bringing in Mike Harris and see what he can do, partially for depth, but mainly to have a gauge of how well this whole hybrid affiliation is working(see how well this running the same offense thing translate). He’s played enough pro-balls to be consider somewhat of a savvy veteran
We’re so versatile as a team, bring in a tweener PF/SF should not be a problem for rotation or line up concerns
Of course, JT is just sitting there, and should get more of a run just for having been practicing with the team for chemistry reasons alone
microfracture is hard to recover from
but c. webb was playing 36+ minutes per game following his comeback (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/webbech01.html) . This does not mean that McGrady should start playing 35 minutes now, but rather, that 15-20 total probably isn’t that harmful. i’m not a doctor or med student, i just wanted to help clarify the t-mac / c. webb comparison by looking at minutes played.
Wafer . . . again. (Marv Albert, HOU v. CLE Feb 2009)
-one of the FEW at Toyota Center who has the Wafer jersey
last week I posted a video featuring Webber talking about McGrady and Microfracture surgery.
Webber’s point was that much of the reason Adelman is holding McGrady back may lie in his experience with Webber’s return. Webber returned quickly, played a lot of minutes immediately afterwards, and he now regards that as the “dumbest thing [he] ever did.”
Exactly my point…

recover time
Jason Kidd and John Stockton might be among the most successful guards to comeback from microfracture.
neither rely on their athleticism as their main weapon, although T-mac is as much of a skill player as the next guy, the same cannot be said for him.
You really have to take into account of how well the rehabs went and the extend of repair that was done, since microfracture is essentially fixing damages with less effective tissues, and really rely on how well the new cartilages build strength and hold up.
This is not something to be stubborn about. The new formed fibrocartilages are more prone to break downs than the original hyaline cartilages. so while T-mac may feel great right now, if he slacks on rehab and doesnt allow proper regeneration to complete, it’s could be as serious as a career ender.
The precedent list is not short: Penny Hardway, C-Web, Mashburn, Allan Houston, Terrell Brandon were all pretty much forced into retirement. Especially take note of Allan Houston who came back feeling good for half a season and essentially just lost it all with his knee acting up again.
As far as I’m concern Adelman is doing the right thing limiting his minutes
The Rockets are playing well enough without McGrady playing a lot…
… no sense in rushing him back. Right now, McGrady doesn’t look ready to play many more minutes than he already is. He looks slow and tentative out there. IMO, he needs to brought along slowly…

I know it is unpopular...BUT
I’d like to see McGrady’s minutes go up to about 15 or so. 7 or 8 in the first half and the same thing in the second half. That, and maybe Jermaine Taylor can get out of the dog house. Otherwise, there is going to be a whole lot of Ariza & Battier out there for extended minutes.

The problem with playing T-Mac in the second half
is that he isnt warmed up enough. In the 1st quarter he is still warm from warmups and by the time the 3rd quarter rolls around he has been sitting too long to effectively and safely get warm again without risking injury.

I think the reason why RA plays t-mac in the first quarter is to leave the team with enough time to go back to pre-mac rotation. That being said, i don’t think RA is confident enough with t-mac’s stage of development, specially on how he’ll be running up and down with the up tempo pace. I really don’t understand this steadfast 7min t-mac playing time. I think it is for future development and not necessarily because RA believes t-mac can be of help in the present.
LOL
What’s with all this false T-Mac hope?
Shit, I’d like to see T-Mac find a time machine and regain his lost youth from 2004. But that ain’t happening. So why would anyone want T-Mac hobbling around for an extra 10 minutes a game??? Please explain this to me.
Oh, to have back the '04-'05 McGrady.
Gawd awmighty, but that’d be fine.

I guess we found our answer tonight to alot of these questions
T-mac will get his 7-8 in the 1st for a while
Taylor will get some minutes
Von Wafer is still an unknown PT wise but he provides depth
grungedave: did T-Mac’s performance tonight give you some more hope??
