Surprise!!!!! Von Wafer is a Rocket again
I'm shocked but anyways he isn't going to play against the Clippers
[Ed. Note (OAL): My immediate reaction is that this is kind of oddincredibly weird, but it sounds like it's only a ten-day-contract...nvm: that's impossible]

I'm sure that all depends on how Von is playing.
If he’s contributing the way he did last year, I don’t see any reason not to extend the contract beyond 10 days. We need SG help pretty bad.

This is good news.
The baron is back baby!
Your a ten, but I'm on eleven!

Especially strange
considering everyone thought he was going to sign with Memphis. I can’t imagine Von passing up a real contract for a ten-day one, so maybe it’s the real deal. I suppose we’ll find out later tonight.
And after the Ariza trick, Morey’s establishing something of a pattern of stealing free agents at the last minute, right?

Im not sure where I read this, but I think we cant sign anyone to a 10 contract before January, does anyone know if this is correct?

I thought it was some date in December

Hope you know...
All of Memphis is angry at you right now.

That's okay...
…nearly all the NBA is angry at you for giving Pau Gasol to the Lakers.

hey, I hate to say it
but if your hopes are pinned on Von Wafer, there are larger problems to worry about.

Von isn't really what Memphis needs.
Don’t you guys have enough high volume shooters who never pass or play D?
You need someone like Chuck Hayes. Not Chuck, but someone like him.

We are basically worst 3-pt shooting team in league...
And the bench has 0 scorers. Sam Young isn’t ready.

As much as I hate to speculate blindly
if a full-year contract has been signed… does that indicate an imminent trade?
by Only_A_Lad on Dec 22, 2009 5:22 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Maybe trying to get pieces to trade for Randolph?
by Rockets4LIFE on Dec 22, 2009 5:26 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Anthony?
I suppose, maybe.
The Rockets wouldn’t be able to trade Von with anybody until after the February trade deadline (I think they’ll miss the cutoff by two days), so almost certainly wouldn’t involve him. I can’t imagine that the Rockets would trade Budinger for Randolph, or that the Warriors would take Taylor…
I think the answer is (similar to what’s stated in the article) just that the Rockets like what Wafer brings to the table, and it’s never bad to have a minimum-salary player on the roster who can contribute.

True enough
but it could signal a break with reality all the same.
by Xiane on Dec 22, 2009 10:12 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I blindly speculated
that was the break. The response was mere course-correction.
by Only_A_Lad on Dec 22, 2009 10:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Blind speculation is stock and trade
the course correction is what has me worried. ;)

I'd certainly never make it as a sportswriter
if I feel bad about just making shit up. Take heed, Tom.

My tinfoil hat says this is why Pops was waived.
Ludicrous? Perhaps. Then again, it might depend upon (a) how long Von had been unhappy in Greece, and/or (b) whether Von had gained from this experience a smidge of maturity, humility, or whatever other -ity Morey & Adelman might have been looking for.
Of course, it could be all about need and fit, and the rest of the above is just blather. We may never know.

this is funny
today when i heard memphis was gonna sign him i was thinking to myself, y the rockets arent going after him since he knows the system and everyone loves him!….

So will the Baron have learned anything from his little sojourn
to the birthplace of philosophy?
Anyhow, I’m happy to have him back. As for trades, etc, who knows. Don Nelson might well trade Randolph for Budinger.

Randolph is good, but no freaking way am I trading Budinger for him

agree...
i love me some budinger…give em tracy and cook…gotta love big men shooting the 3, huh nellie?
by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Dec 22, 2009 6:24 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I would
I think Budinger has all the makings of a very good player, but Randolph could be a special one. Or he could wind up not being in the NBA. Anyhow, I’d take a chance with that one, but that’s more to do with how highly I rate Randolph’s potential, not how little I regard Chase.
by Xiane on Dec 22, 2009 10:17 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I hate to say it
I never understood the Randolph love. He is very talented, but in term of discipline and skills I still find him lacking, playing for golden state certainly didnt help. However, He seems to have great instincts as a basketball player despite his skinny frame and relative rawness
I guess I just dont like banking on “potential”.
I am also a fan of Bud because of how polished he is as a young player

if i am Von Wafer
i would sign for Rockets over the Gizzs for the fact that Rockets are winning; he knows the system; while he’s ben toss (use it lightly here) around NBA, Rocket found the power in him, I think there’s a soft spot in him that loves Rockets a bit more…. just my thought.
Welcome back my Mohawn boy! and 2nd thing for you to do is fire your old agent, because he just wasted you few months and few $$ millions….
I smelled a trade by Rockets, a mulitple players for one big scorers maybe. anyone agree?
don't bully me, i am from the D(etroit)!!!
by wanderboy on Dec 22, 2009 6:14 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
kinda hoping
cook and tmac for a good player…get it done morey…
also i believe wafer made like 1.2 million for playing a few months there…not to bad
by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Dec 22, 2009 6:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
yeah,
and he had to give $1.2 million back to Olympiakos to pay off his buyout. Von kinda fucked up bad this summer.
by Only_A_Lad on Dec 22, 2009 6:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Here's hoping he learned something from it...
…and we don’t see a repeat of his in-game temper tantrum that got him sent to the locker room.
by DribbleHooper on Dec 22, 2009 6:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
honestly,
too much was made of that, I think. I mean, that was the only “incident” we heard about all year.
In any case, he seems very happy just to be back in the NBA, and the fact that he chose to come back to Houston says a lot.
by Only_A_Lad on Dec 22, 2009 6:44 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Indeed.
Personally, I cannot wait to see him tearing it up in a Rockets uniform again… especially the alternates.

its not official yet
as no news has picked it up…acc. to bullard and enis it should be made official later tonite

So a trade is being prepared. Who or what is up to speculation.
by VBG on Dec 22, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
good news!
Lee just lost $60 in having to go buy Von’s jersey now!

he said...
If Von re-signs with the Rockets, he’s buying his jersey.

Wow
How did this even happen?
Sorry JT, I guess you have to reacquaint yourself with the pine(possibly other teams’ pine)
With all these guards on the team, it’ hard not to speculate a trade.

Kudos to daryl morey
For sticking to his guns and not signing Wafer for ridiculous amounts of money. Whatever they are signing him for, I’m sure it’s close to what Morey initially offered him before.
