Game 53 - Houston Rockets vs. Sacramento Kings
Sacramento Kings at Houston Rockets, Feb 11, 2009 7:30 PM CST
This will serve as the game thread. I did a full version but for some reason when I went to publish it, it all disappeared.
Note: Tracy McGrady will not play tonight in order to rest his knee. I would post that picture of him icing his knee while reading Vogue magazine, but let's be honest: we've seen that picture wayyy too many times.
Rockets win, they win big

I'll be flipping back and forth
Duke – UNC outweighs Kings – Rockets IMO.

what are the chances of tmac shutting it down at some point this season?
it wouldnt shock me for them to announce one day that hes done for the season, everyone talk about it for a day, write off the rockets, and have us surprise everyone in the playoffs!
im pretty sure i dream that once a week.

I couldn't imagine it happening
If you think he hasn’t taken enough criticism, wait until he shuts it down while we are fighting for a playoff spot. I think many of us here may like it, but not having him at all down the stretch could hurt.

In this case
it wouldn’t be T-Mac shutting himself down. He doesn’t really have a choice if he was playing bone on bone. Perhaps he can play through it reasonably and this is just a 1 game absence, but I’m going to have to say I doubt it.

Why does Rafer do that???

Sigh... this time it's Yao's turn to get stuffed by the rim

Today's Sign of the Apocalypse
I am criticizing Yao:
Stop passing so much and take shots. An occasional kick out is nice, but don’t do it every time. That’s what Sactown wants.

He still doesn't really know his role
Either that or he denies it. He’s not a facilitator and needs to stop acting like one. It’s already hard enough just to get him the damn ball. It’s infuriating to see him pass it out when he’s not even getting doubled.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 11, 2009 8:05 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It has been repeated ad nauseum
That is what Rick Adelman asks him to do. And I agree, it’s infuriating

I wonder if Phoenix wants him
We all saw what the doctors down there did to him. I’m really just trying to organize a backup backcourt of Aaron Brooks and Leandro Barbosa.

Well at least our defense was better
just 35 points given up in 1st half.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 11, 2009 8:33 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
was that us
It’s a chicken or the egg thing…
did Sacramento score only 35 because of our good D… or because they suck.
I honestly don’t know.

I didn't notice a whole lot. Looked like a lot of the same shots to me, just different results.

or maybe our defense wasn't really that good
we let them shoot 50% from the field. They didn’t turn it over much easier. Suggests a real slow paced game.

Just getting to watch the game now
39 points in a half? I guess that’s okay if you hold the other team to 34

The blowout is on
Unfortunately we are turning into the Utah Jazz. Great at home, pathetic on the road.

The team is playing well
Why does it always look like the team is more motivated when we’re winning? (or maybe it just seems that way)

Rafer…10 assists 0 turnovers…what happened?

What was T-Mac's halftime Press Conference about?
I missed it because Duke is kicking ass.

Well
Considering how many people thought UNC could dominate this, and considering their quick start, I can safely say Duke is kicking ass as long as we are ahead.

While I'm not big on the 2-10
Rafer has put guys in really good positions with his passes. Nice game ultimately tonight for Skip

gotta love the fact that his 13 assists came with 0 turnovers

Yep, that's because his decision making was on point
It’s the first time since last year that I was really impressed with it
by UofTOrange on Feb 11, 2009 9:58 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
maybe...
Maybe… just maybe… T-Mac has been holding Rafer back all this time.
When Rafer has the ball in his hands… he doesn’t turn it over, and maybe his bad decisions come because he’s rushing passes?
just a thought…
by grungedave on Feb 11, 2009 10:07 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It's a tough balance
When TMac is controlling the ball, Rafer loses much of his value. He’s not fast enough to cut to open spaces, nor strong and quick enough to finish in traffic. He doesn’t know how to set screens, and no one sets screens for him either. He’s reduced to standing around on the perimeter waiting for the dishout for the open 3…which he should not be shooting in the first place.
His best plays come from his above average ballhandling, and he can protect the ball competently while the other guys get into position with screens or post-ups. Or he can call for picks to free up the passing lane or to create some penetration.

If The Durants win this game
It’s a 3 way tie for the 5th seed. Given how this season has gone so far, that’s pretty impressive

depending on what they do in the draft, OKC has a huge upside with Durant, Westbrook, and Green

I'm not even sure they have to do that much in the draft
But keeping all those guys after next year is going to be tough. All of them could be max players
by UofTOrange on Feb 11, 2009 10:09 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
same with...
Same with Memphis, that team could get good fast.
by grungedave on Feb 11, 2009 10:13 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
seriously...
Rafer played outstanding tonight. We know he can’t shoot so we can’t expect that from him. But his passing and direction of the offense was great.
Artest played within the framework of “Team”.
Yao kicked ass.
Scola kicked the asses that Yao didn’t.
The only guy who didn’t play well tonight was Von Wafer… though Carl Landry had a sub-par outing as well.
by grungedave on Feb 11, 2009 10:14 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
haha von wafer
0-6 does not help the bench tmac cause but we can still talk about a +2
by fiddycent on Feb 11, 2009 10:15 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I hope no one really wants to bench Tracy for Von Wafer
All I’ve said is they need to find him more minutes.
by UofTOrange on Feb 11, 2009 10:20 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
youre right
either way it looks like the only way he’ll see minutes is when tmac is injured or garbage time.

Poor Battier
he’s going to come home today and find out how his alma mater was pounced by UNC.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 11, 2009 10:20 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
That game got out of hand in a hurry late
UNC is clearly the better team, but I didn’t think Duke would lose by 14 at home
by UofTOrange on Feb 11, 2009 10:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't know how to feel about this
on the one hand, I like Battier and I hate Hansborough (he looks like a weird albino fish-frog-alien). On the other hand, I hate Duke like any right-thinking person should.
Meh. 14 at home is pretty funny.
