HOUSTON -- Rockets guard Tracy McGrady could miss the remainder of the season, according to sources close to Local 2 sports. An MRI revealed missing cartilage in his left knee, which may require microfracture surgery to repair. The possibility remains, however, that McGrady will try to finish the season. Dr. James Andrews, generally regarded as the premier orthopaedic surgeon in the country for this type of injury, will review the MRI before a final decision is made. Andrews advised those close to McGrady, that a microfracture surgery should only be used in a career saving situation.
McGrady and the Rockets will discuss options in a meeting at Toyota Center prior to tonight's game against Sacramento. At this point, the Rockets have no comment on the situation.

wow
that’s… definitely not good. If he needs microfracture surgery, his career has a good chance of being over.
And boom goes the dynamite
At least all those who thought Tracy was just dogging it, a quitter, mentally weak, had a low pain threshold, and did not do a good job of recovering from his initial operation might have to rethink all this.
So the MRI reveals missing cartilage. What does this mean? Was this our doctors and James Anderson not catching this? Or did this a completely new injury?

It's not any less on him if this is true
The Rockets gave him the chance publicly on two different occasions to sit out until he was ready. He decided he was ready to play both times. He’s a professional and should care more about the team than to try and be the hero when it’s not possible.
That said, I still have a soft spot in my heart for Tracy, and I really hope this is true, only because you’re right, it does give him a pretty legit excuse for the on court stuff (not his attitude but his performance).
Missing cartilage would be a new injury from everything I’ve seen. The surgery was to take out calcium deposits, if he was missing cartilage then it would have been blatantly obvious. It’s something that can come up when you don’t rehab well (been there, done that).
I suppose
the only good part of this will be that the “omg lets traed tmac u guis” crowd will have to shut up.
Now on Clutchfans
they’re suggesting this is just some conspiracy by the Rockets organization. His only value is his expiring contract, and we’re better without him. Therefore, we’re better off making up an injury and shutting him down.
Some are already celebrating, and others basically say they will celebrate if we get out of the 1st round without him. I guess they forgot that our goals this year wasn’t to just get out of the 1st round.
Only the Ch 2 report says he’s done for the year. So far, Feigen’s article on chron.com says he’s just out for today so far.
