Speaking of Carter, well-placed league sources say there is a good chance Carter is moved before the trade deadline. San Antonio, Dallas and Cleveland have all been mentioned as possible destinations, but sources say that the emerging dark horse is Houston.
A trade of Carter and Trenton Hassell for Tracy McGrady would achieve two goals for New Jersey: It would get the Nets another $15 million further under the cap in 2010, and it would allow them to remain competitive in the interim.
It appears that the oft-injured McGrady has worn out his welcome in Houston, so it's hard to see why the Rockets wouldn't make that deal."

Yahoo Sports is saying....
Its Carter and Josh Boone for Artest, Landry, and Head. Doesn’t make sense….

NOOOOO
Of all the trades we could make, acquiring VC seems to be the most counter-productive.
How could VC fit within Morey’s vision for statistically efficient players?!?!

well,
like I’ve said before, Morey has noted that the Rockets’ offense is still pretty thin, so it might not be entirely counter-productive.
He’s actually having an alright year, efficiency-wise. His defense is bad, but his offense more than makes up for it. He’s definitely not the type of star Morey would love (then again, neither is T-Mac, really; though one might argue that McGrady’s ability to do other things well – passing comes to mind, as well as his defense – offsets his somewhat inefficient scoring), but the most Morey-esque star out there (Manu) isn’t on the market.
I really don’t see this happening for just T-Mac. T-Mac would certainly help a team get under the cap for 2010, but I don’t think that will happen until next season. As wescox10 said, I’ve only seen the Artest, Landry, and Head package floated out there.
The Rockets could definitely lose a power forward with little impact. I like Landry, and there’s an argument to be made that he could be the Rockets’ power forward of the future, but right now he’s much less valuable than the Argentinian Slayer. And his contract is very attractive. Losing Luther isn’t too big of a deal.
The only thing I really hate about this deal would be Carter’s contract. Unless the Rockets were able to get rid of him if he doesn’t pan out, he’d be on the books until after the 2011 season. Meanwhile, he’d be eating up over $15 million in cap space.

Yeah, as long as we don't give up too much, I'd honestly like VC
He’s having a great year, shoots it well from three, basically puts up numbers that T-Mac will never put up this year. The contract is the only problem.

that's another reason
We have to sign Yao in 2010… having $15M dedicated to VC would be a slight problem if we intend to have any depth on the roster.

first off,
it seems that mcgrady is ‘seeking opinions’ to buy time off so that he doesn’t get traded. i’m sure he’ll play against dallas because trade deadline will be up. he obviously doesn’t want to leave this team, esp for NJ. as a result, i really like the artest/landry/head for carter and whoever else they throw in, for a couple reasons.
1. artest has been a HUGE let-down defensively, and [via the chronicle] is starting to become a locker-room issue.
2. this moves (if healthy) McGrady to the starting SF, benching Battier. this makes our starting lineup weaker defensively, but strengthens our starters offensively. but who knows, carter may want to come and be more efficient defensively. this also puts battier where he belongs, which is making sure the 2nd unit is defensively organized. this move for McGrady, i think, will FORCE him to not take the jump shots he was in the first half of the season because he’ll be in the front/mid court, not hanging out behind the arc. but who knows?
3. more minutes for scola [by dumping landry], who is having an amazing season.
4. no more luther head. i hate that guy
5. artest was supposed to motivate mcgrady to play out of his mind. sadly, artest is instead taking shots at him in the paper. having your cousin play alongside you when they have already been rivals will probably motivate mcgrady more.

two things:
1) I really doubt McGrady is simply seeking out opinions to keep a trade from happening. (a) It just doesn’t seem likely to me that he’d fake an injury right now and (b) it seems to me that he’s really hurting and simply trying to find a doctor who either has a solution or tells him what he wants to hear.
2) While it’s true that Scola would probably get more minutes, it also means that at least some of Landry’s minutes would go to Hayes. That definitely helps the bench’s defense, but we all know what it does to the offense.

T-Mac trade!
I’m ready to lose McGrady. He seems to be shopping doctors until he finds one that will give him an excuse not to play. As I posted yesterday in my blog, www.ricksrockets.com, it’s time to let him go. I doubt seriously though that anyone will take him. I know that cap space is important in the 2010 free agent sweepstakes, but 20+ mil is more than any owner would want to pay just to get a ticket to overbid for talent, especially when there’s no guarantee they could land any.
