Trade Open Thread

Baron_medium

I know this is a little late, but I'm away on business.  So, anything anyone else is hearing?

Baron Davis?

Vince Carter?

Heck, what about Mike Miller?

Thanks for making the thread

I don’t have access to Clutchfans right now, but I’ve been refreshing this trade-talk site on ESPN by Chad Ford.

It looks like we’re not getting any big names here.

ugh
• The league sent out a memo this week describing a number of different potential luxury tax scenarios this summer. The league’s hypothetical case had the luxury tax dropping to $69.4 million. That’s one reason teams are scrambling this week.

Les has let the Rockets operate above the luxury tax before, but it’s a little tougher to do in the current economy. Granted, if all things continue like they are right now, McGrady’s contract will be moved next year, but that’s still not too good. Of course, the Rockets are one of the more financially stable teams in the league (thank you, Yao), Les obviously wants to collect revenue sharing money (and not pay out revenue sharing to other teams).

But, if I remember correctly, that’s not too far below the Rockets’ current payroll (only about a million or two, I think). So it shouldn’t be too hard for Morey to get under the tax.

Yep

Head is still on the roster, and we still have zero draft picks next year (unless we miss the playoffs this season, since our 1st round pick is protected).

Not quite,

the Rockets still have their 2nd round pick (they had Memphis’ 2nd round pick, too, but that was traded in the Francis deal).

wait,

no they don’t. That was given to the Spurs in the Scola deal.

RAFER TRADED HOLY SHIT WOW WTF BBQ
Marc Stein: Looks like we have a fairly significant three-way deal that has been submitted to the league just before the trade deadline.

NBA front-office sources tell ESPN.com that Orlando is acquiring Rafer Alston from Houston to fill the void created at point guard by Jameer Nelson’s shoulder injury.

The Rockets will receive Memphis guard Kyle Lowry, Orlando forward Brian Cook and perhaps two other minimum-salaried players to make the finances work.

The Grizzlies will receive a first-round pick from Orlando.

I don't believe this

I know most of you will probably be celebrating this, but this is a major chemistry killing move if this shit is true.

We lose a great defender, a great passer, a floor leader and what looked to be like a locker-room leader. We lose another JVG-coached player. He was developing some fine consistency with Scola and was playing much better without McGrady.

There’s some other players to be named later going to us. I’m not sure what Brian Cook is going to give us. His 3pt % is nice but plays sporadically. Lots of DNPs in his game log.

The major piece we got out of the deal was the young, undersized, but speedy and athletic PG Kyle Lowry. He’s kinda like a Rajon Rondo. Still kinda similar to Brooks though so I’m still thinking WTF on this. Lowry is better defensively, but was on a terrible Memphis team. Is he ready to lead this Rockets team that will be playoff bound? He has zero experience in his career of playing in pressure situations.

This has got to be a money move if this is true. Rafer was one of my favorite players here and I sympathized with him more because of all the hate he got for his bad shooting. This is a sad day.

im leaving this blog now =(

j/k.

this deal surprised me, but this was a good move by Morey. Out of all the small deals, this seems to be the most significant, IMO.
