TDS Regular Season Awards - Defensive Player of the Year
The 2009 NBA regular season has come to a close. Thus, it is time to vote on Rockets-specific awards. By the time Saturday's playoff opener against Portland rolls around, all of the fan awards will have been given out. Following our postseason endeavors, Dave, Lee, and myself will give out some awards of our own. But for now, it's all about you guys. Vote!

Ron or Battier
I think I would go with Ron on this one. I just can’t forget about that clutch block on Vlad’s 3pter.
Ron was inconsistent this year to win this award
Hayes didnt play enough to win this award
Lowry didnt play enough to win this award
Yao was great after the break but average before
So by elimination theory battier wins because he was the most consistent when he was on the court and healthy

Supposed to read
Ron was too* inconsistent this year…my bad

shane was more inconsistent than ron this year
the answer is RON
Shane was more inconsistent when he was injured
but ron was inconsistent the whole season. Remember the Lakers game when kobe took over cause ron wouldnt shut up?? The rockets might have won that game if not for rons inability to keep his mouth shut and if that happened the rockets would have home court. Its Shane, and the results are prooving that.

This is a tough one
Battier, I think, is probably the best defender on the team right now. But he’s been injured for much of the year and so his defense just hasn’t been up to par for him.
Ron was a lot better throughout the year. The defensive metrics like his performance, and so do my eyes. He’s been a great defender, far outweighing his annoying habits on offense.
Yao’s defensive numbers are really good this year: He’s worth about 5.4 points per 100 possessions when he’s on the floor. But I think the judgment is that he’s not really a great defender, but that Adelman’s defense used him in such a way that he’s allowed to do what he does best – just stand next to the rim and alter shots. That’s very valuable, and the Rockets would be able to be such a good defensive team this year were he out, but I think the award would have to go to Ron because of his versatility on defense.

I like the choice of Chuck, but he just hasn’t played enough this year. He’s a one-man wall on defense, but we just haven’t gotten to see very much of that this year.
