Congrats Houston

The story of this series is this:

In games 3 and 4, Houston executed and made big plays in the final 5 minutes.  Portland didn't.

Hats off to your guys - you are playing clutch ball.

Portland had a ton of chances to take either game in Houston, but our lack of experience I think told the story. But don't take anything away from Houston, they made plays when they needed to. The offensive rebounding in the 4th quarter was obviously the key to the win. Some of that is great hustle by Houston, and some of it is just poor boxing out and rebound by Portland.

See you on Tuesday

Thanks man

This game could’ve gone either way. If Houston lost it would’ve been the poor shooting, if Portland lost, it’s the second chances, but it was a great game from both teams.

Love to see just pure basketball. No ticky tack fouls, THIS was a real game.

Did you see Yoa walk into Greg Oden and Oden gets whistled for the foul?

Over at Blazers Edge there is a post showing two of the worst calls I have ever seen. The other is watching Battier fall and on the ground for a lose ball and Trout gets called for a penalty. Both calls were creepy.

Hey another Blazers fan here...

Let me just say, I really admire Shane Battier. I have to admit seeing Von Wafer and Aaron Brooks shooting hot early in this season left a bitter taste in my mouth. Bitter mostly at our lack of perimeter defense and Greg’s inability to lay hands off the shorties. But, man there are no excuses for Shane Batteir. He is simply one of the smartest and coolest customers in the game. I am beyond envious that you guys have him on the roster. Lucky, lucky you. Here’s to it, Houston, looks like you’ll have the L*kers. May Shane shame the black mamba and send him back to Hollywood with his reptilian tail between his legs.

Good game.

You guys did a great job out there. Good job to Adelman, Yao, and everyone who hustled so hard in that game for you guys. Be proud of your team.

If you finish us off: PLEASE HURT THE LAKERS!!!

Teams up 3-1 are 0-6 in Game 5's on the road

We’d become the first road team up 3-1 to ever win a game 5. hahaha. Lets do it.

Blazers are a fun team to watch.. There is tremendous talent in that team.

I think they will be a force in the Western Conference for years to come.. I hope it is not this year – as a Rockets fan..

Houston executed and made big plays in the final 5 minutes.

What about Game 1 when the 3rd stringers were in there the last 5 minutes?

in case it wasn't obvious

I was talking specifically about games 3 and 4

How did you guys win that?

just to add:

- the biggest plays were the Houston O-rebs leading to threes (one at the start of the 4th by Wafer, then the 2 by Battier). Portland did not do the job on the glass that it needed to.

- Roy choked down the stretch, as did Blake with awful turnovers.

- The series is not quite over. Almost, but not quite. If we assume (and these are out of thin air), that Portland has a 70% chance to win game 5 at home, a 20% chance to win game 6 on the road, and a 75% chance to win game 7, that works out to Houston being about a 90/10 favorite which feels about right to me.

The best team won tonight

Houston couldnt shut the window on us, but in the end they pulled it out. Adelman is a quality coach. I’ve always felt that Adelman>MacMillian.

I got 6 years of playoff blue balls going on, and I'm ready to release. GO BLAZERS. ~Mortimer

Hey Blazer Fans

Yeah, I noticed the sheer length the P-Towners have. We have short stubby Landry, Hayes, Lowry, Scola, Ron – ya’ll have some nice length. I am wondering if the Blazers maybe want to get just one starter on their team w/ significant playoff experience a la James Posey last year (Hedo, Perhaps?).

It’s not even close to being over. So many teams have come back from 3-1 to win (Dallas did it to us in 2005 / Detroit vs. McGrady’s Magic in 2003 or so).

Batum has just not shown up for the Blazers, and Travis didn’t arrive until tonight. Rudy has shown he’ll be one of those clutch Europeans in the playoffs like Peja and Manu. If the Blaze had Martell, that would be scary. Oden has shown flashes of brilliance. I thought all those fouls on the PO centers were a little ticky-tacky in the 1q.

Przy annoys me, so does LMA, only if it is because they have irritated the Rox.

Roy is a star.

What if PO signed Ron Ron??

To The Blazer Fans

I know its not over but I really like the Blazers. So much damn potential! Hopefully the team doesn’t get changed too much in the offseason because I think you guys just need to grow as a team. You guys have a very bright future and I hope this is the beginning of a rivalry of some sorts. I hate playing Utah and Dallas so its been very refreshing playing someone else than them. Great series!

Portland just needs..

to make sure they work hard and avoid the same path as New Orleans.

Very similar teams if you think about it. Dominant young guard and a very good big man with good shooting touch who can spread the floor. A big physical center with limited offensive(two in Portland’s case) ability and some good wing players as well.

NO seemed like they thought they had arrived coming into this season and now it looks like they’re set for a 1st round exit coupled with a underachieving season.

One things for sure… Chris Paul isn’t happy.

by Artest4Prez on Apr 27, 2009 11:28 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I think that is what every team in the whole league is thinking.

You hear it from us too every once in awhile.

It’s not suprising seeing as PG isn’t the strong position for either of us.

by staylost on Apr 27, 2009 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

I can hear the announcer now...

“Chris Paul takes the ball down the court…

checks his options…

lobs it up…

VON WAFER THROWS IT DOWN!"

by Artest4Prez on Apr 27, 2009 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions

So we won't sign James Posey.

Really, though. After the first three (Peja, West, Paul) the Blazers are superior at every postion all the way to the 15th player it seems like. And West/LMA is a tie in my mind.

Thanks for the compliments.

This Rockets team has been my favorite team ever to lose games too in the history of me watching Blazer basketball. …I’d still prefer winning, though.

From portland

This looks like it could be a pretty intense rivalry over the next couple of years, besides game one its been a very close battle, fun to watch but bad for your heart.

if brandon roy played for toronto he'd be brandon waaaaah

This series is not over...

Portland has proven they can play tight with Houston in the staples center. I think we are all expecting a decisive vicotry by Portland in Game 5. After that the series is 3-2 Houston advantage. Anything can happen. Blazers chance of winning this series? 22.7%.

Also, there will be no “rivalry” unless Houston upgrades at a few key positions. The Blazers roster is loaded with freakish young talent. Portlan and Houston are ships passing in the night. Portland is improving. Houston is getting worse.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 27, 2009 1:22 PM CDT up reply actions

How bout a little respect?

Houston is getting worse, except for the past 10 or so time we’ve played ya’ll.

by chrisjay84 on Apr 27, 2009 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Worse?

How can we be worse when your team is facing elemination? I can’t wait for the rockets to finish off these guys so we can concentrate on a real team. Ya, i said it portland. A real team. i believe we got you 5-2 so far this year. At least you get to watch your team go down in flames from the comforts of home.

by mutombo4life on Apr 27, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Look!

I have been very vocal expressing my feelings that the Blazers, right now, are far and away the more talented team. The problem with that is that talent doesn’t always translate to W’s in the NBA. Houston is arguably the worst matchup for us. I think, in totally theoretical terms, the Blazers are simply better. No question.

Also, you arent getting any younger and its a fact that you are starting to roll down the hill.

Shane Battier is 30.
Tracy McGrady is 30.
Ron Artest is 30.
Scolla is 28.
Yao is 28.

This is most of your team. All these players contribute significantly to your W’s. Now, I am not saying you are “old” persay but you are past your teams peak and are slowly starting to pick up steam in the wrong direction.

The Portland Trailblazers have a fantastic problem. Their entire roster is in the “we are improving as players and as a team” mode. We have the youngest team in the league. Next year we will take a huge jump up. The Rockets will take another small step down.

It’s really just common sense. You need to win now. We dont.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 27, 2009 2:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Battier’s value is skill-based not athletic-based thus it is proven players like him have a longer shelf-life.

T-Mac will likely never play another Rockets game in his life.

Ron isn’t under contract after this year so we don’t even know if he’ll be back.

Scola and Yao show no signs of slowing down as both have had career years.

You also forgot to mention that we have plently of young talent as well in Brooks, Lowry, Landry, Wafer and maybe James White if we ever get to see him play…

I fail to see how the Rockets are waning?

by Artest4Prez on Apr 27, 2009 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Good post.

I can see where you are coming from with all of your points.

So McGrady and Artest are gone next year and you don’t think that they are waning?

I’m sorry but this is it.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 27, 2009 3:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't need to win now?

anybody with that attitude should not be a sports fan. ask the 72 dolphins if winning out means anything. take that hippie crap somewhere else. This is Texas. We don’t play that s**t here!

by mutombo4life on Apr 27, 2009 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Lets get realistic for a moment...

The Blazers are the youngest team in the NBA. They have 4 high profile rookie players (Oden, Batum, Bayless, Fernandez). Their core guys are wicked young (Roy, Aldridge). Webster, who was a projected starter this year played all of 5 minutes. We are also “too deep” if that can be a problem. The chances of us packaging a few players together with a draft pick and some money, and getting a good player back are pretty high this offseason.

This team isn’t suppose to win now. Watching the Rockets fight tooth and nail with them this series is just icing on the cake.

You do realize, when you watch the game on Tuesday, that you’re playing a future 65 win team right?

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 27, 2009 3:50 PM CDT up reply actions

What's up with the percentages?

You and jksnake got this crazy playoff odds stuff…. a 22.7% chance? Really?

How about an “outside chance” or “some chance” or “a fair chance if they can find a way to get some other players off”. To think there are actual odds accurate to a tenth of a percent is silly. It’s Hollinger silly.
