Let's calm down

There are about 90 things Portland did right this game. The Rockets forced stupid shots repeatedly and turned the ball over too much. A few calls don’t make or break this game.

I agree we played poorly, but I'll have to beg to differ with you....

Momentum has a huge role in making or breaking a game. Just as properly called timeouts affect the game, so does a momentum breaking (stoppage of play) “call” affect the outcome of the game. In the fourth quarter the Rockets had taken the crowd out and gained the momentum, not to mention a 4 point lead. That is when Roy went to the basket missed the shot and was rewarded with points by the officials. (We had the rebound) The next 6 possessions were marred by non calls for the Rockets and calls for the Blazers. In a 9 to 2 swing the Blazers made just 1 basket and were whistled for no fouls. Come on, 9 free throws to 0 in the fourth? Any person watching could see the officials take a different approach to calling that game in the fourth. Calls that were not made and rightfully so, in quarters 1 through 3, for some reason where made in the fourth and made incorrectly at that. I’m sorry, I have played in and watched too many sporting events in my lifetime to go with the old cliche “a few calls don’t make or break the game”, sure they do! Not saying we were for sure going to win that game last night, but all our opportunities of winning were significantly depleted with those calls in the fourth. Even the talk radio guys are complaining and as we all know they never do that.

Nobody complains about the refs when their team wins

that’s weird

I AM A PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS SUPPORTER.

exactly

just like giving up 7 turnovers and 10 offensiver rebounds in the 4th quarter of game 4 doesn’t make a winning formula for Portland

How did you guys win that?

As a Portland fan

not a single game in this series has been decided by the officials. There have been a lot of inconsistent and questionable calls both ways, but in games 3, 4, and 5, the team that made plays down the stretch won.

mostly

bcz the other team had to back off bcz a fingernail on the guy would be called a foul…Also i find it interesting that u dont put game 2 on ur list of bad calls not effecting outcome…

after all the whining us portland fans did after games 3 and 4

i dont have a problem with Houstan fans getting frustrated about the refs

dude what?

Every single call was a foul. There was only one play that was questionable (Lowry being pushed into the pick), but Lowry was out of position and got caught in no-man’s land there.

The refs did not lose this game for the Rockets. The Rockets playing scared did.

by grungedave on Apr 28, 2009 11:42 PM CDT reply actions

The Shane Battier play was not a foul on Shane, neither was the Scola play

But to say it cost the Rockets the game is just silly. They lost because they couldn’t stop tossing the ball to the Blazers or the Blazers fans

He was holding Roy’s arm.

nice to see that you guys hate palmer and javie too

I think we can all agree that something needs to be done about inconsistent reffing

agreed

i hate palmer bc she is possibly the worst ref…javie isnt a bad ref but i hate his ego.

I got 6 years of playoff blue balls going on, and I'm ready to release. GO BLAZERS. ~Mortimer

Javie is a douche.

He’s the only ref I’ve ever heard of to eject a TV or Radio color commentator from the game. Although if he gets the call for either game six, or game seven if necessary it wouldn’t be all bad if he ejected Mike Rice or Clyde Drexler. They’re both terrible. Sorry Clyde, you’re still my all time favorite Blazer but you don’t belong on the airwaves.

The chippy fouls were dumb, it's the playoffs

While watching the crappy NBA TV feed online, I remember hearing the whistle blow 5 possessions in a row for the Blazers.

I do agree though that the rockets lost this game, not the refs. Game 6 should be awesome.

Agreed

that was a little rediculous… although a few of those fouls were the players denying Oden an easy dunk. But the five quick fouls reminded me a lot of the first quarter of Game 4 where Przy and Oden picked up the ticky-tacky stuff.

portland fan here.

And even through my blazer colored glasses I could see you getting the shaft by the officials. Sorry about that I hate to see poor afficiating even when it helps my team.

by vullkem116 on Apr 29, 2009 3:12 PM CDT reply actions

As a Blazers fan, I agree Houston got screwed

It wasn’t that you guys didn’t commit the fouls. Every one of those calls was at least close enough that the call wasn’t completely out of line. The issue is they weren’t consistent. It was a whole bunch of stupid little fouls OUT OF NOWHERE. They weren’t calling that stuff for the entire game until the fourth quarter.

I HATE inconsistency in refs. No one is perfect and all refs make bad calls, but the least they could do is call the game the exact same way for the game.

by TheGreatMon on Apr 29, 2009 3:24 PM CDT reply actions

Let me say this

Portland got completely biased officiating in game 5. Went out way the entire game.
But.. the two games before that, Houston got all the calls. like Chrisjay said above. it seems to be the hometeam that gets an absurd majority of calls.
