Rockets/Blazers: Today is the day the Rockets finally make it to the second round.
Today. Game 6.
The day that will forever be known as "The Day the Rockets Made the Second Round for the first time in 12 Years."
Please don't let me down, Sleepy.
I've said "Rockets in 6" all along. But I constantly need support from my audience as to my accuracy. So, as Ned Ryerson would say, am I right or am I right or am I right? Right? Right? Right? (yes, this may be the first time I quoted a fellow SMU alum. Like I said, it's a good day.)
UPDATE: Uh, oh. Tonight's referee assignments. F#*(@&k!!!!
GO ROCKETS!

You should’ve put a vote for Blazers in 6. To see how many homer BEdge fans there are here.

Lol
I would have voted Blazers in 6.

That would have been funny
Although I’d then be concerned about the counting abilities of blazer fans.
"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.
But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"

We got this!
I’m sure we are closing this out tonight guys. I predict the Rockets will clamp down on D and get a big lead on them early breaking their will. Blazers will not shoot the way they did in game 5.

I got a nasty feeling this game is going to go to seven. I hope it won’t, but Brandon freakin’ Roy is too damn good and the Rockets have yet to get Yao good shots consistently. I think we’re more than capable of winning in Portland, though.
by Jeffrey on Apr 30, 2009 9:20 AM CDT reply actions 1 recs
The fact that they can't get the Ball to Yao is disconcerting.
It’s not like the Lakers aren’t going to watch tapes of this series. If Oden and Pryz can front Yao then I’m pretty sure Pau and Bynum can handle it, maybe even better. I don’t mind the Blazers losing in the first round. I just can’t bare to watch the Lakers march their way to the finals without some sort of resistance.
In other news, apparently Artest thinks Roy is the best player in the world besides his friend Mike from Queensbridge who was incarcerated for a couple years.
Roy is the best player in the world with the exception of Incarcerated Mike from Queensbridge .

yeah
i’m not sure what to make of that.
Roys good though, and we already knew that, so yay.

+1 for Roy's new nickname
I think I’ll just call him Freakin’ from now on. – Elgin

does he screw the Rockets in particular?
Or are you just cursing his general incompetence?
draft dejuan blair
Yao Ming: "Over time, [Oden] can even go beyond the Magic’s Howard."
Pelton: "Always love Hinrich’s D. Nobody on the Blazers (or most teams) gets into people like he does."

because he sucks
as I recall, he was the one who called that final foul for Dwayne Wade against Dallas. The one with no contact at all.
And incompetent refs tend to suddenly go blind when defenders decide to mug Yao in the post, so they tend to screw the Rockets in particular.

+1 & Rec'd
Because Javie is a MAJOR Blazer hater. He even tossed out announcer Mike Rice once for calling him out on a BS call…. where the hell is that link!
Here is is
http://www.portlandtribune.com/sports/story.php?story_id=28801
At the time, Steve Javie, the official, was a young official. That previous week he had kicked out a mascot, a fan, and kicked somebody else out, a trainer or something like that. He was on a roll that week, he had made a call, and I looked on the monitor and saw it was a bad call on Cliff Robinson. I kind of put my hands like that [two hands waived at the official] and he ran over, Cliff thought he was going to call a technical on him, because Cliff was standing there doing the same thing. He ran by Cliff and that’s when he kicked me out of the game, the rest is history.

I've said Rox in 6 as well
…from the beginning. Before the series even started. The only thing I’ve had wrong is when we’d win the road game. I figured Game 2, instead it was Game 1.
Rockets 95-87, Yao finally breaks 20 pts. I’m calling it.

Must win situation.
It’s game 6, do or die. If the Blazers win, it’s back to the Rose Garden for a daunting game 7 in one of the fiercest arenas in the NBA. It’s no secret that Przybilla and Oden will front Yao, and Roy will put the offensive pressure on Artest.
I guess the question is now, who’s gonna step up and be the X-Factor in game 6? Portland is the underdog here, only a 30% chance at winning (according to ESPN ), however, something tells me it’s gonna be all out war for 48 minutes, and give them a little credit, the Blazers could pull off a victory.
Just remember one thing, the Lakers have been getting rested and ready for the semis.

If houston wins...
freaking kill the lakers please. I do NOT want Kobe winning the finals. I do NOT want the Cavs and Lebron winning the finals.

I wouldn't mind Lebron winning
if it meant Kobe losing. Another 38 point Laker blowout loss to clinch the series would still taste pretty sweet to me.
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21... I know...

Heart of a champion
I know that sounds cheesy, but the championship Rockets never made things easy either. They lost games they should have won. Remember how Houston got the moniker “Clutch City” it was because we were named “Choke City” just before. Portland finally played their normal game in Game 5, its time for the Rockets to play like they’re capable of as well, which only happened in Game 1.
Shame on those who say they wouldn’t watch Game 7 if the Rockets lose tonight. Yes, the pressure is on the Rockets tonight, and hopefully (and they should) win, but in a Game 7 it would be back to 0-0. Nick Anderson can miss game sealing (and career ending) gimmee free throws. Anything can happen.
On a side note, I’ve been hearing on the radio that Von Wafer might not play. Anybody know anything more about this? That would really hurt the Rockets.

B.Edge fan here:
I’m gonna call it like I see it. I really think the Rockets either win tonight or they’re done! They SHOULD win. They’ve OWNED the Blazers at the Toyota Center in recent years…but they also could be turning into the T-Wolves of a few years back in that no matter what they try, they’re can’t get out of the 1st round. It can’t feel good to know that both your home wins over the Blazers came by a combined 4-points.
The reality is, if Portland loses tonight I’ll be sad because of the missed opportunity…but in a few days I’ll recall that this year we’ve already achieved far more than I hoped. We’ve cut our teeth, competed down the stretch of the regular season, battled and won home court for the 1st round, and had a tough competitive battle against a more seasoned rival. You can’t BUY this type of experience, and it will only add to the foundation that KP has put together with this young team.
So, GO BLAZERS!…but Thanks Rockets for testing battling and testing us. May the best team win!

Wafer has been the X-Factor
Losing Mutombo was a non-issue, but Wafer has been so big in this series. Now who does Houston have that can create their own shot off the dribble. Brooks and maybe Lowry, but that’s a stretch. I predict the Rockets taking a lot of jump shots, and if they are hitting like Games 1 and 2, could be a long night for Portland. But they aren’t, hello Blazers in 7.
B.Roy = JC

Mutombo is a factor (was)
Mutombo backed up yao in the first game, and you see what happened there. Without that dominent center, portland is left open to drive the paint when yao sits. Losing Mutombo is the reason portland is still playing tonight.

The worst thing the Rockets can do tonight is win.
If you are to win the series, you should have swept us so the Lakers would get no rest. The second-best alternative is to win game 7, so that when you do face the Lakers they will be rusty.
