I think this whole intentional foul sequence
just makes less and less sense the more I think about it. Should the strategy of intentionally fouling to gain an advantage in the closing minutes (or elsewhere, as with hack-a-shaq) be eliminated?

I mean
this is just boring basketball
by Only_A_Lad on May 12, 2009 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not criticizing the coaches for doing it
I’m criticizing the league for allowing it. In virtually all other situations, fouling is a bad thing. But in the closing minutes of the game, teams suddenly gain an advantage by breaking the rules and slowing the game down to nothing. It’s neither interesting basketball nor an interesting strategic situation.
by Only_A_Lad on May 12, 2009 9:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
it shoudl be done like the breakaway fouls
free throws plus the ball back

that would be a tough call

and the Lakers offense was BEYOND terrible. Even had they played decent defense, Houston was still gonna win.

I predicted a Game 4 loss, before Yao even went down. When he went down, I was even MORE sure Houston would win. Teams ALWAYS play better when they’re against the wall, a superstar goes down (Houston is a great example of this), and at home.

is Bynum in the game setting a screen on the low block for Gasol to flash to the top of the key, where he can take the open jumper, or toss it in to Bynum would should have GREAT position to simply turn around and dunk the ball. If none of that is available, find Kobe on the elbow for the jumper.

Well regardless of what they run
They should absolutely have Bynum and Pao in there at the same time. I mean, we have no size – none. They should get every board inside.

by TitanFan2K on May 12, 2009 11:18 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
perhaps
the reason a team got outplayed is because of their OWN faults and their OWN mistakes and their OWN misplays?
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dude stop making excuses
Why is it always LA’s fault that they lose. Why is it so hard to give the rockets some credit?
by erod on May 12, 2009 11:22 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I give Houston credit for Game 4
Lakers came out complacent, which is why they went down BIG. Even had their offense been even close to it’s normal self, and our defense even close to average, Lakers still would have lost. Not with that much emotion, in a close game? No way Lakers would have won. Houston was on fire, they were dead set on winning the game, and nothing LA could do would stop it. LA’s own faults, mistakes, and misplays is what turned a potential close loss into a rout.
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That was some shitty credit
That was like saying, I’m not racist BUT …

it's called turnabout is fairplay
Lakers fans got tired of hearing people dispute the “What if Bynum was healthy” talk by all fans… so some want to then dismiss those who reason that injuries is why they lost…. while others understand because they fully remember last season
and yes, Yao > Bynum by far. But Bynum is key to alot of things the Lakers do. Not offensively, but defensively.

You’ve said you’re from SA, so it’s borderline. It’s not cool, but it’s not quite like the Judas-clones who worship Bud in Houston.

yea, I didnt live in Houston when they left
so maybe thats why it didnt hurt me as much. i just knew that I wanted to be a fan and there is no way in hell I was switching to tha cowboys. when the texans came I tried rootin for em but it just wasnt tha same.

So… do we have 15+ minutes of garbage time at this point? Or are the Rockets actually going to try to come back? The body language, to me, suggests the former.
by DribbleHooper on May 12, 2009 11:29 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Houston has heart
I expect them to make a big push to get it as close as possible, for reasons of pride alone.
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I sure hope so.
On a slightly related note, I have to say I like what I just saw from Brian Cook. He may be a garbage time player, but he seems to be earnest. Nice dive for the ball just then.

former Lakers
recently always play great against LA. See Cook, Maurice Evans, Radmanovic, Kwame Brown, Turiaf, etc… (Turiaf wasn’t traded, however)
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I first hated us getting Turiaf
I’m happy to admit I was wrong.
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:35 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
good signing
what did he finish, Top 5 in blocks? I still don’t understand how Mitch thinks Powell is better than Turiaf. Sure, Powell can actually hit an open jumper… but Turiaf DEFENDS, and can REBOUND.
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:36 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
dont forget Caron Butler
he’s pretty good
by TitanFan2K on May 12, 2009 11:36 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
lots of them
too many players to keep track of that have had big games against us… hell, watch, next year Chris Mihm is gonna drop 20-20 on the Lakers!
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:37 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
what game are you watching?
they’re still going after loose balls and fighting. Shots simply aren’t being made.
by Only_A_Lad on May 12, 2009 11:31 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Stupid Laker fans don't get it when we call them the Fakers
Their bandwagon population should be self explanatory
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:31 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
i wanna see how many "laker fans" are there
once kobe leaves town
by Dub4lif3 on May 12, 2009 11:32 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Not only that
I wanna see how many faker fans are there once they’re a lottery team.
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
But then again
They’ll check to see if the Clippers are winning, then rep for them all of a sudden
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
lakers aint gon be good forever
and yes, kobe will eventually leave town bro

was there before Kobe
will always love the Forum Blue and Gold! Even if it means we have to suffer thru the Pau Gasol years (similar to the Vlade Divac years)

u need to be a Laker fan
to understand that.
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:35 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kobe's a bandwagoner himself
Before last year started, he said his teammates suck and that he wanted to be traded cuz he can’t win with them.
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
it woulda been interesting
to see what woulda happened a few years back when he was FA if he had gone to tha Clippers
by TitanFan2K on May 12, 2009 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes it was
i will agree it probably shoulnd’t have been called, but it was a off arm clear out.
by rshinsec on May 12, 2009 11:36 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
given the amount of contact being allowed
no, it should not have been. And, while there was an arm, it doesn’t appear to have really affected anything.

If the Lakers win a title in the Gay-sol era
That shit’s tainted. We all know it wasn’t a fair trade. Fairy West is a former Laker who just gave Gay-sol to them.
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:36 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
you mean like the celtics?
who got KG from former celtic kevin mchale (who is friends w/ celtics gm danny ainge)
by TitanFan2K on May 12, 2009 11:38 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dude
you’re trippin. The Cs gave up Al Jefferson, Telfair, and Ryan Gomes. Jefferson and Gomes alone were worth the trade.
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
im out
fuck the lakers, hope the rockets can take it at least back to game 7, peace out
by Dub4lif3 on May 12, 2009 11:37 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
kobe's a prick
did you see that “no-look pass?” he was watching odom, then he looked away while passing to look cool
that’s total prickness
by Keelhaul on May 12, 2009 11:38 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Lucky for the Laker fans...
They don’t have to play the Bobcats in the Finals. Face it ya’ll. Larry Brown owns Phil Jackoff. He has his style figured out.
by Golden Boy on May 12, 2009 11:38 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
They just have nothing left after Sunday
And by nothing I mean… less than nothing.
Chris - www.HoustonDiehards.com
by HoustonDiehards on May 12, 2009 11:39 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah
they gave it their all on Sunday and got their moral victory. Hopefully they put up a better fight on Thursday though in Houston.
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I tihnk it goes one of two ways
Close Rockets win, or another Laker blowout win.

Those last two buckets were definitely grind-your-nose-in-it. Ugh.

40 points.....damn....
If the roles were reversed, Magic probably would have shit his pants instead of just wetting them
by erod on May 12, 2009 11:39 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Do we really have another quarter to go?
There’s going to be a lot of showtime going on in the 4th quarter. If I’m Adelman, I don’t want Artest to have anything to do with it. Bench him the whole quarter.

Agreed
Chris - www.HoustonDiehards.com
by HoustonDiehards on May 12, 2009 11:40 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
and so
the James White era officially begins!
by Only_A_Lad on May 12, 2009 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
not that I'm suggesting this...
but more morally gray people would suggest sending Artest in to try to start a brawl and get alot of Lakers suspended for Game 6 (and 7 if necessary) plus the next round.
by tandur on May 12, 2009 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Artest would get rejected
for even thinking about that
by Keelhaul on May 12, 2009 11:46 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
is it worth keeping yao on this team?
he has yet to prove that he can play through a full season consistently
by rocketloveinthebigD on May 12, 2009 11:40 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Baskeball-wise, probably not
Business-wise, it would be suicide.
Chris - www.HoustonDiehards.com
by HoustonDiehards on May 12, 2009 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, it's not like he's the west's
premier center or anything.
by Only_A_Lad on May 12, 2009 11:42 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not the best when he's not on the court
…and with age, the foot problems will get worse, not better.
I LOVE Yao. Always have. From day one. I defended him to no end. I don’t WANT to see him go.
Chris - www.HoustonDiehards.com
by HoustonDiehards on May 12, 2009 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
its just that I can't see the Rockets
as a better team without him. He represents the Rockets game philosophy, work ethic and a commitment to defense.
