A Few Words from a Phoenix Fan
First of all, you guys run a great blog here, and that's saying alot considering I'm coming to you from Bright Side of the Sun.
Secondly, though I haven't earned the right to call myself a Rockets fan, I've been rooting hard for you to pull this off. The heart this team shows in the face adversity is unlike any team since...well, since the Suns not too long ago. You've got a great team and great fans from what I can tell.
Lastly, there's alot of people talking about how great it is to just be at game 7, and how there's no pressure going into it, win or lose, and I have to disagree.
Let me tell you a story. You see, last season the Suns drew the Spurs in round 1 and in spite of alot of troubles, we were confident we matched up well and were poised to defeat our foes at long last. And when game 1 rolled around, we executed well, leading throughout most of the game. We had all but won when a couple mistakes in the final seconds got the game closer than it ever should have been. And it finally came down to one stop, which would win the game for us, or send it into overtime for them.
Well, we didn't get the stop, and it came from a tim duncan 3, of all places. With that one shot, the Spurs eventually won the series, and tore apart the Suns from top to bottom. In that offseason, our coach departed, unable to forget that horrible shot, and the foul he should have used. Players got dumped and traded, and our whole philosophy was overturned.
The reason I bring this up is that now, the Rockets have the opportunity to do the same thing to the Lakers. A game 7 win would send the Lakers organization into a tailspin, and as in the resulting panic the team would be torn apart. Free agents will leave, Phil may decide to retire in shame, Kobe may even leave for greener pastures. The power of the hated Laker organization may be broken forever.
So you see, there's alot more than just one series at stake here...We stand on the precipice of never having to see all those damned Kobe ads again... Sasha's punch worthy face will never again soil our screens. In short..freedom.
God speed Rockets fans, the entire Western Conference is counting on you.

I remember the 3 point shot by Duncan
The game that Phoenix played was beautiful to watch, and I also used to like the game the Sacramento Kings played under Adelman. It is too bad, the Phoenix team was dismantled thus..
Thanks for the good wishes.. I know that we could use them.
With respect to Lakers, as I read LA Times I realize that the bruising 7 game series with the Rockets has already taken some shine off of this year’s Lakers..
While the Lakers are keeping up an outward appearance of unity, their body language says otherwise. We will see how this season progresses.
Kari
i remember that one too....
i was rooting for the suns that time…
SB Nation can thank you...
for your poignant yet sensible post…i signed up after a whole season of dormancy just so I could give a brother an

Been reading TDS for a while now...
well at least for this entire series, but I’ve never been motivated enough to join and comment. Being a Kings fan, it has been excellent watching two former Kings (Rick and Ron Ron) take it to the Lakers in a way nobody could have imagined. I thought after Artest made that comment where he said something along the lines that “I don’t understand why the fans think it’s such a big deal to get out of the first round.. that’s not LA’s goal, that’s not Boston’s goal, that’s not Cleveland’s goal, and that’s not OUR goal.” that this was going to be one great series. His guts by making such a statement showed me that he has become a true leader (just one of the many steps I have seen him make to shed his persona of being a head case from that incident in Detroit) and is not going to back down from anybody and that is exactly what this Houston team has done. They have played with a passion that I never could have expected. It is truly awesome and I am completely envious of your position in having the chance to win this series and hand Los Angeles a major F#*K YOU.
Rick definitely deserves vengeance on LA after what happened in 2002 where they cost him an almost guaranteed ring.
I’ll finish this post with what 90% of basketball fans are thinking right now, BEAT L.A.!!!!!!!

Us Warriors and Kings fan need to unite for our former coach, Adelman. Yes, Adelman didn’t have the success with us that he did in Sac-Town, but I feel he deserves this series win more than anyone else involved with this. Especially for what happened in ’02.
Absolutely
This is my 2nd post, but the “absolutely” the 1st time shows that it’s not as a reply to you.
As a Rockets fan its great to feel solidarity with so many other NBA fans...
I hope we can pull this off and do justice to the title Clutch City :)
