Daryl Morey only got one freakin' vote?!?
The Nuggets GM wins the "exec of the year" award. The award is now rendered completely pointless, stupid and shortsighted. NBA voters are dumb.

Biggest sign that this award sucks
is that Denver had two executives that recieved votes. Their VP of basketball operations (who won) and their VP of player personnel.

I think it was the Henry Abbott who said the NBA was like a fantasy basketball league where the only active owners were Pritchard and Morey
Honestly, they should just call it the Morey/Pritchard Award and just give it to the THIRD best guy. Seriously though, if you voted for John Paxson, you haven’t been paying attention to the league the last few years. Sure he made a good move this year and managed to not screw up the first pick in the draft, but I still can’t see how anyone would vote for the guy.

Why didn't Steve Kerr get any votes?

Joe Dumars should've won the Award
for handing Chauncey to the Nuggets to clear space.

well
you have to give the Nuggets credit for taking advantage of Dumars clearing cap space.
Still, a good GM does a lot more than simply making one trade. Denver signed some cheap guys for the bench, so they’ve done very well. But a lot of why the Nuggets have improved has just been the maturation of their club.
Yeah, Morey got robbed. He turned Nicolas Batum and an awful 2009 pick into Ron Artest, which pretty much saved the season. He added Lowry, though I suspect most won’t recognize what a good move that was for another year or two. Von Wafer was probably just dumb luck, but (as Branch Rickey said 60 years ago) luck is the residue of design. The fact that the Rockets have survived such a massive hit to their club as the loss of their main outside threat is a testament to Morey’s design.

Good pick
The award isn’t a lifetime acheivement award, it awards the moves that a GM makes this year. Nuggets resigned J.R. Smith to a reasonable contract, ignored Karl’s desire to trade Melo, moved Camby to get cap space (even though they should’ve gotten a first round pick at least), signed an absolute steal in Birdman, got Renaldo Balkman who gave them good minutes when KMart was injured, and of course got Chauncey.
Morey does deserve more than one pick for the Artest deal but I can’t really recall any other moves he made this year.

Saw it
My post was pointing out that the Nuggets actually did alot, just as much if not more than the Rockets. Like I said, Morey deserves more than one vote but the Nuggets deserved it too. Executive of the Year is one of those awards where you have several equally qualified candidates every year and given how much the Nuggets overperformed most national media member’s expectations, it was pretty obvious that they were going to get the edge.
