what I'm saying

is that they thrive at a fast pace. It’s why they play the way they do. Nene, Martin, Melo, etc. are all great running players. Houston would force them into cement-galoshes pace.

admittedly

i haven’t seen much of the nuggs as i’ve wanted to. and the Hornets series can’t be a good situation i can use to generalize how good their team can be in the halfcourt, but from the few games i’ve seen and the reading i’ve done, they’re pretty formidable in the half court too. Although the regular season pace would suggest that they are a running team, so you got me there.

Honestly...

The Nugs are good at just about everything right now.

They’ve flown under the radar all season but are now getting the props they’ve deserved all year.

They would struggle getting boards against the Rockets though.

Because the Rockets have yet to win the series

The Rockets are the underdog. If the Rockets win the series, we’ll be talked up to Denver (whom I think will win their series). Denver will be the “underdog” because of their age and experience in the playoffs.

Then if Houston actually gets to Cleveland in the finals, we’ll be the underdog again.

I agree with your statement,

The Rockets are gonna have trouble if they don’t build a lead going to the 4th, but there is definitely not great offense being displayed by either team… It’s gritty physical play, which favors the Rockets I would hope

Heard a lot of hopelessness here, but the Blazers and Lakers play similar enough games, and I knew after how well the Rockets played the Blazers they’d have a decent shot.

Cue Phil whining about the foul deficiency.

Remember that the true foul difference was nearly 50/50 UNTIL the Lakers started fouling in desperation in the end of the 4th. At this same time the Rockets were trying hard not to foul because all they had to do was waste time and make freethrows.

Rockets defense absolutely owns the Lakers offense. No Laker with a ‘good’ game. Kobe huge ballhog for the game too.

Yao easily head & shoulders above anyone else out there tonight.

And all of this in LA.

by two buck chuck on May 5, 2009 12:37 AM CDT up reply actions

keys to the game

1. brooks 3rd quarter was huge, matching kobe shot for shot almost
2. i felt like we got more calls than the lakers, but not by much
3. yao ming being aggressive. he was trying to dunk the ball from everywhere! and coming back to play in the 4th, that was awesome.
4. for some reason, i liked it when he played brooks and lowry together. usually only does that to close out the games, but he put em in at about 7 minutes left in the 4th. maybe because we were turning the ball over so much.

things i didnt like:
1. brooks in the 1st half, hesitating on wide open shots. and barry did it too a lil bit.
2. von wafer, letting sasha get in his head. he played very tight and didnt do much (-9)
3. turnovers. and they need to work on not getting stuck in traps at the end of the game. almost gave it up!

by fiddycent on May 5, 2009 12:41 AM CDT reply actions

I know

we’re not going to get Kobe to shoot 14-31 and 1-7 from behind the arc every night. Either way a win is a win. I feel so much better about this series after this win.

Yao, Artest and Brooks had huge games. I noticed Brooks went into his little dribble-fest but actually converted numerous times, so we’ll let it slide. Also Chuck should’ve played a little bit more. I know it was a close game but he’s so good on the glass offensive and defensive (he also gets pity points when matched up against Gasol or Bynum). Yao playing 40 minutes really worries me, especially after that scare. We really need to get a traditional back-up center.
Not to mention, a quiet but still efficient night for Scola and everyone minus Wafer off the bench. .

Pretty rough night for the entire lakers team. You know it’s really bad when Jordan Farmar leads your team with +4. Also props to Kobe for not using his “flu” as an excuse for an off night. Yet they manage to keep the game so close all the way into the 4th quarter, which is also a little worrisome.
