Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

After Game 1... how does the series end now?

Many thought the Lakers would win Game 1.

Instead the Rockets won/stole the game (and homecourt advantage).

So... what say you?

Attack of the Von-Hawks!

It was Artest’s haircut! Rockets in 6 or Lakers in 7

by UHoustonFan on May 5, 2009 1:06 AM CDT reply actions

Historicaly, this Laker team folds when things don't go their way.

If they can show they’ve grown out of that they are still favored.

But they probably can’t since it is Kobe’s attribute and he is their leader.

To break the camels back simply get this series to 3-1 and you are done.

by staylost on May 5, 2009 1:06 AM CDT reply actions

That's it, it's the Lakers character and Kobe's character

It couldn’t be the poor execution of the Lakers, the poor shooting of the Lakers, or the good defense of the Rockets, and good guard play from the Rockets

by Gils_Keloids on May 5, 2009 2:41 AM CDT up reply actions

Certainly what I wrote is just my opinion.

But I am not talking about this game. Kobe’s attitude was fine during this game. He played hard all the way trying to win.

I’m talking about the series. All those Laker/Suns matchups have driven that belief about Kobe into me. Plus last year’s Championship round…

by staylost on May 5, 2009 2:47 AM CDT up reply actions

Of course we're all talking opinions

And my opinion is that the Lakers as the 7 seed took a loaded Suns team to 7 games (even without Amare Stoudamire), while starting Lamar Odom, Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, and Lamar Odom.

My opinion of last year’s final is that great defense and good offense will beat good defense and great offense most of the time.

Neither of those reflect a flaw in Kobe’s attitude.

As for the 2004 Finals … I have no comment.

Kobe has shown he has the mettle to win championships. To couch his flaws in terms of ego instead of execution is folly. In my opinion, of course.

by Gils_Keloids on May 5, 2009 2:56 AM CDT up reply actions

The funny thing is that Lamar Odom did need to be mentioned twice on that Laker's team.

I guess you might take it as a compliment that I almost just dismiss the idea that Kobe could execute poorly.

I’ll try to be less Bill Simmonsy in the future.

HISTORICALY it's over your going to lose, NEXT!!!!!!!

HISTORICALY THIS HOUSTON TEAM GET’S THE FIRST ROUND BOOT!!!!

look, I'm going to help you out here

you need to save yourself the embarrassment and just stop posting.

HISTORICALY THIS HOUSTON TEAM GET’S THE FIRST ROUND BOOT!!!!

Irrelevant.

reality is Houston won’t shoot 58% again this series

This sounds an awful lot like what was said after Game 1 in Portland.

Don't know what you smoking, but you must be confused!!!!

rockets and blazers combined are not better than the Lakers!!!!!

by familiarvoice on May 5, 2009 9:44 AM CDT up reply actions

That doesn’t even make sense you idiot

by brandonmitchell on May 5, 2009 10:00 AM CDT up reply actions

Hmm.. this season the Blazers are = to the Lakers.

You are correct that you have to combine them for the Lakers to get past.

But the Lakers are built for the regular season. Not the playoffs. So far it appears Rockets > All.

by staylost on May 5, 2009 1:00 PM CDT up reply actions

If Rockets hold their ground at home like they did against my blazers, then they will win in 6

So I predict Rockets in 6 which will be hard. Yao has to stay healthy and keep giving him the ball.

Rockets in 6 worked last time

I was cheering them on at a local bar while playing pool. I kept telling my laker friends not to underestimate the Rockets. They looked great tonight. Keep it up.

"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''

Replay of 1st Round

If the Rockets take advantage of home court, get the ball to Yao, and play great team defense, we can finish it in Houston, Game 6.

Well Done H-Town

I was screaming and cheering for ya’ll so hard when you guys made clutch baskets vs the Fakers. What also made this game 1 special was that not only did ya’ll take the homecourt away, but I saw someone in the stands reppin my Warriors and wearing a “We Believe” shirt. Good luck in beating the dumb ass Lakers and taking this series back home up 2-0. BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA!

You guys are smoking some serious crap !

Are you guys stupid? You actually think that Houston has a chance in this series?
You guys are more idiotic than I thought. For most of you who think the Lakers are going down ..I think it’s just wishful thinking on your part. For you Houston fans….enjoy the win ..cause your gonna get your azz kicked the next three or four games. Do you actually think that the pathetic Rockets can beat the Lakers in a 7 game series? Good Luck !!

by Viper73 on May 5, 2009 1:56 AM CDT reply actions

I not only think they CAN,

I think they will. The Lakers get talked up every year, but they still haven’t won anything since Shaq left. The Rockets haven’t either, but they aren’t going in every year thinking they’re entitled. And they didn’t declare themselves the best team in the league four months ago.

Oh right. I’m also new. A Seattle-based Halifax-born fan of the Rockets, Mariners, and Canucks. No, I don’t have any idea how that works.

Stop thinking and watch

hell the rockets haven’t won anything since Akeem left , so just stop!

by familiarvoice on May 5, 2009 10:01 AM CDT up reply actions

Really?

Did anyone else here know that? I did not know that. Thanks!

Also he was apparently always Hakeem. No one says Lew Alcindor anymore either.

Douchebag Alert

Get the hell out of here, nobody wants to hear that garbage. We just schooled the Lakers AT THE STAPLES CENTER. Sounds like anger to me

finally! a troll!

been waiting all night for one, but i give props to this guy for actually having the balls to come here and talk shit after a loss.

Translation:

“DAMN guys you people just jacked home court from us. Bynum is future HALL OF FAMER man, he TOTALLY wrecked Yao today. Sasha’s gonna take out you’re entire team with inadvertent elbows man, count on it. LAKERS IN 4 man TOTALLY!”

Correction My BAD You have won 2 Championships

I didn’t remember the New York series, not totally my fault Game six was interupted with the O.J. Simpson freeway chase that i guess must of lasted for oh about 60 mins.

You have won a very important game.

Please continue to stand on those Lxker throats. Love, – Elgin

Actually most people said

if the Rockets were to win a road game, it would be Game 1 because of the Lakers’ rustiness. Lets see if that theory holds true.

by goingforthecorner on May 5, 2009 5:22 PM CDT reply actions

and yet

It’s not like the Rockets weren’t a little rusty either… the Rockets had 3 full days off. The Lakers had 7. Rust basically affected both teams.

by grungedave on May 5, 2009 5:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Rockets in 6

shane can hold up this defence for the rest of the series and i think the rockets will settle down and not make so many stupid turnovers, as long as artest keeps the von hawk i think he can keep up his game 6 of portland series level play
