The Dream Links: Special Insane Rumors Edition - June 16th, 2009
Today's Dream Links are, well, not likely to happen.
Interestingly enough, I had a conversation with my friend Jonathan about the possibility of trading Tracy McGrady last night. He brought up an idea to me that I loved...and it doesn't involve a trade. Should be a post up soon on what we discussed.
Rumor Mill
Word on the Street, June 16th - Draft Express' Jonathan Givony
"Houston also seems to be very active in trade talk, particularly in trying to move Tracy McGrady we’re told. McGrady will be out for the first 20-30 games of the regular season, but there is some thought that he might be able to help a playoff team down the stretch, particularly since he’s in a contract year. Its tough to see how many teams would be able to absorb the 20+ million dollars he’s owed next season. The New York Knicks might be one of them. Houston would be looking for a shooting guard in return."

Ryne Nelson's reaction to the Draft Express report: "...Rip Hamilton’s a name oft-mentioned as being on the block. Should the Pistons offer a package including Hamilton and its first round pick for Mac, the Rockets would be enticed to accept."

This isn't going to fly as an alternative to LeBron for the New York faithful. But there's a chance that the Knicks - who are always assumed to be willing

yea
just read this on realgm.com
The Rockets are rumored to be very active in trade talks, specifically involving Tracy McGrady.
McGrady will miss the first few months of the regular season, but could be a good fit for a playoff team.
DraftExpress.com also points out that McGrady is in his contract year, which could bode well for whatever team he happens to be playing for this coming season.

The Lebron suggestion
is a beautiful one. Looks like it will work, too. Barry is a much better perimeter shooter than Lebron, so I can see why Cleveland would prefer Barry over Lebron.
On second thought, NO!!!

Great idea but...
I love this suggestion, but guys, its going to cost Carl Landry and not Joey Dorsey to land LeBron. Think about it, you are not going to give a guy like LeBron up without getting a young talent. If we went that road, this would be the trade.
Cleveland Gets:
McGrady
Barry
Landry
Von Wafer (sign and trade)
Lowry
First Rounder
Houston Gets:
LeBron
Ben Wallace

This is where the Rockets really miss Rafer.
The Rockets probably ruined their chances of getting Lebron when they traded Rafer away. I think Rafer is the kind of valuable piece that could make this deal happen. From Cleveland’s perspective, getting McGrady and Alston for Lebron would be too hard to pass up. But now I fear it’s unlikely to happen.

Absolutely
I mean, how on earth could they pass THAT deal up ;-)

Why would want Wallace, are you kidding, Morey would never do this especially with his statistical thinking about everything!!

I stand corrected
I think that I put Ben Wallace because its rumored he’s retiring and Houston gets that spare cap space. But, in lieu of that, replace Big Ben’s name with Anderson Verajao.

The Kreifels piece is very reassuring. Glad to see the Chronicle isn’t the only paper saddled with talentless hacks.
