Logical Replacement
To me, the most logical replacement for Yao Ming would be Marcus Camby or Chris Kaman
Now which one? Well it depends...If you want the defensive presence then you have to go with Camby. Camby is a decent Offensive player buts really only good for like 11 points. Of course the one problem there would be his injury problems too.
Now Kaman is the offensive Center. In our system, hes prolly capable of 18 + points a game. He's a solid defender...Both guys would prolly not cost so much (LAC got Camby for a 2nd rounder last year)...Im not sure what either contracts are but dont think they are so bad...
Now I can care less which one...I like kaman alot but i do like camby too...getting camby would mean more touches for scola too...
So what do you guys think?
T-Mac for one of them and something else...
BTW i doubt we can get Griffin so no need to mention him, and i doubt morey wud ever go for a player like randolph

They won't be given away for free
Clips fan here….Clips would probably take this trade:
Kaman or Camby for Battier+Lowry+Budinger
Including Budinger in that deal is negotiable.

not sure salaries work here...
I’d like to see Kaman here… he’d be more than adequate. Just gotta make salaries work.
and I’m sure Sterling would love T-Mac’s expiring deal.

i think
the rockets wud laugh at that deal…
i think the clips WOULD give away the, “for free”…obviously not free but for Expiring Contracts and pick or young player

The Clips are by far the most likely team we can trade with.

Wow
Uh first of all, the Clippers aren’t that bright.
This is the ideal trade:
For Kamen, it would probably cost one of the 2nd rounders, and maybe a sign-and-trade with Von Wafer perhaps plus an expiring deal (Bryan Cook perhaps) for Kamen.
And here’s a more interesting thought:
Brooks, T-Mac, and Cook for Kamen and Baron Davis.
Thoughts?

possible
i like b-diddy but his contract is huge too!

Yeah, it takes Houston out of the 2010 Draft Sweepstakes
And Baron Davis can be even more unstable than Artest, but if you get the Baron playing well, sign Artest to a reasonable deal, then you’ve got something to work with. Kamen may not get Yao’s 20-10, but he could get 15-16, and Scola and Landry look more primed to score more points for this team.
A 5 of Davis/Artest/Battier/Scola/Kamen isn’t bad with a second unit led by Lowry and Landry.
No Camby, he’s more injury-prone than Yao is.

a possible deal
For Kaman or Camby
Cook, Llull, and maybe next year 2nd rounder for Camby
like someone above, kaman would cost a lil more…

David Lee
i think david Lee could be a REAL possibility!
I can see them doing a sign and trade and add more for T_mac
T-mac can fit really well in dantoni’s sytem and t-mac has one of the biggest contracts out there expiring in 2010 (which they made it clear they want)
Lee (sign and trade) + note sure what they have for T-Mac and Cook – i think this could realistically work

It could Happen
I was looking into a trade that could help this year and not cripple our cap for next year. I had to use three teams to get this to work. I used Toronto and the Clippers because both have been rumored to be shopping some big men. We know that Toronto does not want TMac at all so that is why I had to bring another team into the picture. In this deal
Rockets get:
Chris Bosh
Marcus Camby
Toronto get:
Carl Landry
Chris Kaman
Future Rockets first round pick
Clippers get:
TMac
Patrick O’Brayant
One of the rockets picks from this year (Llull or Buddinger)
This would keep our core players together while we would be able to give Yao a whole year to fix his foot. Bosh and Camby have expiring contracts next year that gives us flexibility for next years free agents. Assuming we would pull this off ( In Morey we trust) we would have to resign Artest and Waffer to make it logical. The roster w/o Yao would look like this:
Brooks/Lowery
Artest/Waffer
Batteier/White/Taylor
Scola/Dorsey
Bosh/Camby
That gives us a quality low post game and a defensive presense as well. Let me know what you think

I don't know why Toronto
would deal away a VERY talented player for Landry, Kaman and a 1st rounder. Especially considering that first rounder would probably be pretty low with the new lineup you got there.

Toronto thought process
I was using the thought process that they weren’t going to let him walk for nothing at the end of next season.

ohhh.
yeah you’re right. That’s a good point – they should be happy to get whatever they can for him. Preferably to someone NOT in their conference.

assuming that white and dorsey actually play. people can change, but if SA let’s him go then. . .
13 points in 39 seconds. Enough said.

These would be players currently on their roster
Assuming Yao is out all year long would would be eligable for an injury cap allowence of around 7 million plus our MLE. They would have some money to go get another player or 2 without breaking the bank

luxury tax
i think that would put the rockets over the luxury tax, and when you think about retooling a team and not really knowing what they can do together, thats not a very practical way of having to pay extra money on such an improv team. plus even if they do well, what if yao does come back at the end of the season? or even if he came back for 2010, why would you pay the tax on a squad that will only be together for 1 yr?

Salaries Don't Match
It would be nearly impossible to trade tmac to the clippers because of the size of his deal in order to get back camby or kaman. Tmac’s deal is at 22 million and camby and kaman are around 10 million so it would definitely not work
i dont think the rockets are really wanting a long term deal and im not sure how long kamans deal runs but if it expired in the next year or two then im sure battier + someone else for either camby or kaman would work. especially since i know camby is coming off the books this year
