We'd be giving up a significant player or two to get this pick. It's just a phone call, but how about something to fool around with for the moment? Like, say, McGrady/Brooks/Cash for the pick, which turns out to be...Rubio? Go crazy in the comments section if you wish.

anyway if brooks or lowry were in the deal then wed be drafting rubio, if brooks or lowry not id deal, i dont think it’d be rubio…prolly would be thabeet

Cook, Barry, T-Mac, future 2nd (or 1st) for that 1st?

Is anyone in the draft not named Blake Griffin even remotely worth that kind of trade? The impression I’m getting is that even the star players in this draft are kind of “eh” at best… but then, I’m no expert.

if and this is a big "if"

If Rubio has somehow communicated to the Grizzlies that he would refuse to play for them, this could give the Rockets some leverage. Just need T-Mac to limp in and pass a physical.

Of course, this would be slightly ironic given how the Rockets got Steve Francis from the Grizzlies… who drafted him at #2 overall in 1999.

I dont know much about Rubio...

…but trading McGrady (or his contract), seems like a really bad idea.

20 million expiring, with the potential upside that a healthy T-Mac offers seems to be worth a bit more than that.

Also, I’m not exactly clear on the restrictions of salaries matching in a trade for a pick. Would the Grizz have to match up to McGrady’s 23 mill in personnel salaries also?

No idea

I would like to hold onto McGrady as much as anyone. The Blazers turned down Vince Carter for Raef LaFrentz, and Raef’s contract was worth less than T-Mac’s. You can only imagine what kind of offer we could get for him.

Hopefully if the Grizz decide to offer the second pick for solely McGrady and allow us to keep Brooks, why not go for someone like James Harden? I mean, think about that for a second:

PG – Brooks
G – Harden
F – Artest
F – Scola
C – Yao
6 – Battier
7 – Wafer

I would LOVE that.

Update!

ESPN has picked up on this rumor. Can’t decide if that means anything or not.

If we didn't take Rubio...

we should take Thabeet. It would be a little redundant with Yao, but we could put him at the 4 every now and then. Basically, he could be the primary backup for Scola and Yao.

Unless Memphis is $20 under the salary cap

They would have to give us back salaries between 80 and 125% of TMac’s salary for next season.

Horton is win.

by jack_ on Jun 10, 2009 5:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Note, that should be $20 million

the idea is that if acquiring TMac’s salary would put them less than $100,000 over the salary cap, they aren’t obligated to give salary to us in return. Any team over the salary cap or making a trade that would put it over the salary cap can’t receive more than 125% of the salary it gives away in a trade. Teams under the salary cap can make whatever trades they want so long as the salaries don’t push them over the $100,000 over the salary cap threshold.

Horton is win.

I doubt T-Mac would be traded for a draft pick

Harden all the way baby. I’m gonna moonlight as a fan for whatever team he gets drafted by anyways; why not make it the Rockets?!
