T-Mac - Why the Hate?

I mean sure, he's pretty much a proven loser. Or is he? He's never made it out of the first round of the playoffs, but you can tell the guy wanted it pretty badly. I'm not sure on the sabermetric or player-efficiency stats or whatever, but T-Mac always seemed to up his game in those rounds, we just didn't have the other pieces. This team this year was better with T-Mac than last year. True, they were still very good without him, but when we needed one bucket, we couldn't get it. That's what T-Mac provides.

Does anyone else remember the 13 points in 35 seconds against the Spurs? I don't know how healthy he can be, or how his knee or shoulder would hold up in the incredibly physical games the Rockets always seem to be in in the playoffs. But dammit, we need offense. We need it badly. And when he was healthy, there may not have been a better offensive player in the game than T-Mac. It was so much fun watching him toy with his defender for 7-8 seconds on the shot clock, then just shoot a simple mid-range jumper and make it as if he were alone. Don't you guys miss that?

I don't know how much we can get in a trade for him, and if Eddy Curry and the carcass of Cuttino Mobley is the best we can do, I say just pay him this year and see what happens. Worst case scenario, it's last year. Best case, we have T-Mac, who's no Mutumbo, he'll be 30 all year, and is just one year removed from 21, 6, and 5.

No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Do not cut/paste entire sections of content from other websites. Thanks.

just coz

he is paid 23 million
kobe bryant made 23 million or less. He puts in twice the effort.
Mcgrady is suspect on D, for 23 he should be on it. He had surgery before last season and then limped all season. Then declared himself out for the season before informing the team.
Did the stats tel you how mcgrady bailed out on magic fans? did it tell you how Mcgrady is the reason for our locker room problems beginning of last season?
Thats why, i’m sure i can come up with more. just not worth my time.

23? i hope you’re not referring that to be his age. he’s 30.

13 points in 39 seconds. Enough said.

I still like T-Mac

But having him on the team lately has been more heartache than benefit. Would hate to see T-mac leave the Rockets… but I think that happened some years ago.

I like T-Mac. Every year he actually plays his team either sucks or Yao is injured.

Dude

Message to EVERYONE:

Stop asking if I remember 13 in 35. Yes, I remember it. It was great. It will never happen again.

But don’t use it to make Tracy’s case. What about the billions of other seconds he has been on the court in Houston? Or, like this year, off the court?

13 in 35 happened once, and ONLY once

Why the hate? Because T-Mac is like the hot girl who goes to the prom with the nice guy, only to string him along, use his wallet up, and then end up with the guy she really wanted to be with in the first place. All talk, little show.

Yes, you get great moments from McGrady every once in awhile, and in the playoffs, he’s had some disappointing match-ups (in particular 2003 and 2007). However, he has to play with more heart and passion to fit on this team. You can’t have a scrappy, all-heart group led by basketball’s equivalent of Alex Rodriguez out there. It just doesn’t work.

And YES, I just compared T-Mac to A-Rod.

you know

that’s a great comparison. Not because of talent level or anything either did, but simply because people have the strangest, most distorted view of their careers. Alex Rodriguez is one of the greatest hitters of all time, and yet his team’s fans boo him for striking out. T-Mac led the team into the postseason on one leg and arm last year, and yet his team’s fans think he’s a quitter.

thats coz

he quit last year
i think people can tell when a player shows heart. yao has been injured more often than tmac but he shows heart. Either we’re blind or completely stupid, Houston knows tmac isn’t the deal.

It really is a good comparison

Since neither guy can lead in the playoffs ;-)

And I agree, ARod is a fantastic player. But his injury history is not that of Tracy’s.

I really do “like” Tracy. I don’t think he’s a bad guy. I even get that some times when you have injuries like he has that you just can’t mentally deal with them. I’m trying to be professional with him and just say, it’s time for the Rockets to move on. Maybe that means do it before the season (my preference) or it means doing it at the trade deadline. Maybe it even means one more magical season where he takes the team and leads it. I’m fine with all those scenarios. But it’s not arguable at this team that he has been divisive in the lockerroom, no single source I’ve heard from has said it any differently.

Don't keep him around after next year, but...

I know he’s a crappy teammate and seems to have a bad attitude when he’s not playing. But I more meant we shouldn’t just have this attitude that he’s worthless and can’t help our team. The suggested trades I’m seeing on this site are ludicrous. It’s not only the best expiring contract in the league, but if a team trades for him, and if he’s healthy, they get a very very good offensive contributor.

There just seems to be an attitude of loathing towards Numero Uno, and I was just askng why. Thanks for the responses.

It actually is the best expiring in the league

That’s the hard part. It’s worth a ton to both the Rockets if they just let it expire or another team if they trade for it. The Rockets can get something on the level of Stodemire for him

I know, right?!

What’s with this Eddy Curry bullcrap?! Sam Dalembert and Willie Green? Do people forget who our GM is? He wouldn’t trade T-Mac for a first round pick, why would he do that. Although I do like Dalembert, his contract is top-10 worst in the league. He doesn’t replace any of the bountiful offense Yao, T-Mac, Wafer, and Crazy Pills provide. We’d score 50 a night.
