Summer League: Rockets 73 - Warriors 69

Boxscore

Golden State of Mind

I didn't see much of the game.  From what I did see, it appeared that:

A. Joey Dorsey needs a lot of work offensively.

B. Chase Budinger plays exactly as he was scouted: jump-shot happy and soft in the lane.

C. Garrett Temple and Will Conroy could make some noise pretty soon.

D. Maarty Leunen is no Steve Novak.  But the Chronicle likes him nonetheless.

E. Boom Tho needs to pay attention in the huddle.

Well, that’s putting it charitably. But he scored relatively efficiently, and he seems to understand his role in the offense (get fouled, gorilla dunks).

B. Chase Budinger plays exactly as he was scouted: jump-shot happy and soft in the lane.

He took a few mid-range shots I didn’t like, but he looked good to me. He made a few cuts to the basket that should have resulted in a pass, and his willingness to fight for rebounds makes me think the the “soft” label might be a little unjustified.

I liked what he did too. And it's not that he is soft...

He just doesn’t drive in the lane the way that he’s capable of. He’s too hesitant to use his athletic ability and make an effort to become an attacker, a la Von Wafer. And if you saw that short-armed layup…yeesh.

And not to steal the phrase, but Chase has

more on Dorsey

he had four fouls all game, and (given how whistle-happy the refs are and how often he goes for the block) that’s really good. But he also turned the ball over five times.
