David Andersen - Center Option
Its been well documented that the Rox will be targeting a center & most probably via trade as GM Morey mentioned recently at the Trevor Ariza press conference.
A bunch of names have surfaced since FA started with Gortat & then a host of other options...
Honesly at this stage IMO the best option that we have to be competitive & not tank the year, would be this guy David Andersen...He currently plays overseas in Spain for Barcelona. The Hawks own his rights here in the NBA, but with their recent signings of Bibby & more specifically Zaza, its seems that they don't have the money to sign him.
Here is an link from a Hawks forum stating that they offered him a contract & he refused it & has asked the Hawks to trade his rights. Whats interesting is that they CLEARLY mention the Rockets as the main possibility.Text is in Spanish & then translated into English, I can confirm that the translation is correct.
He is the "mobile center" the Rockets are looking for, the only downside that I really see in him is his age (29).
Here's a YouTube link from Mr. Andersen...7'0'' 250 lbs (29 years old)
Don't know, but I'm guessing a 2nd round pick + plus cash would get this done with the Hawks. The good news that is mentioned in the article is that Andersen has until July 15th to inform his current team (Barcelona) if he's leaving to play for the NBA this year. Which means that if the Rockets are going to trade for him, we should know in the next coulpe of days at the latest...

I really like
what I see in that Youtube link. He seems like a good option for us, although I don’t know what his price is.
If we could get a sign and trade for Gortat, and sign David Andersen for cheap to be our back-up center, then I think our chances this season are going to immediately rise.
I’d hate to lose Battier for Gortat if it came to that though. Ariza could replace him yes, but would James White back him up? He hasn’t been playing well in Summer League at all.
Also, I know Morey will not do something for the sake of doing it, But man, I would love Von Wafer back this season. That’s just me though. I know we might not sign him because of his price and because Taylor and Buddinger are doing well.
it really doesnt quite seem like he wants to play in the nba
he seems quite content to stay in Europe and play there and play olympics with australia
Seen him play a couple of times in Australia
He’s got a great soft touch and decent range, not quite NBA 3pt range though, has some solid post moves, and his passing is above average for a big man.
His only down side is he’s a poor screener/ setting picks. I think he would get called for a few illegal screens in the NBA as it’s so different to Australia and Europe.
I couldn’t see why he wouldn’t want to play in the NBA, especially if he’s going to play 10-15 mins a game
"It's who we are," Battier said. "I don't think we're going to get the love of the six foot blonde bombshell. That's what the Lakers are here for. It's alright, I like our demographic."
I like him
Someone should bring him over. His rights are being held hostage by Atlanta who won’t do anything soon plus there is probably some kind of buyout issue with his overseas contract. Like you guys said it would only make sense to do it if he were getting minutes. Probably on a young, bad team who could develop him.
hes looks like hes nba ready
but think it will cost us alot!!!!! but hey we spent money on players “we dont” need first!!!!!! and we’re gonna spend money getting a player “we do need” second???? i hope they can get him if he comes to play in the nba!!!!!!!
Interesting reading in the Hawks post (pre-trade) talking about Joey Dorsey having character issues… not sure what to make of that…
people freak out
because he makes it rain in the strip clubs and he’s not the brightest cookie in the shed. I think it’s an overstated worry, myself. It’s an issue if all you have on a team is guys like that, but if you have good veteran role-models and a strong coaching staff and team personnel, I think you can have a few “character issue” guys on your team without problem.
Besides, it’s not like we’ve heard anything about Dorsey this year, and I think having essentially a whole season off and living in Houston (undoubtedly the strip club capital of the South and, like any big city, a place you can get in which you can get into plenty of trouble) is a pretty good test of whether or not a guy is going to fuck up.
