Thinking back.....
Thinking back to the acquistion of Shane Battier; a defensive threat; Do you guys think we should have kept our draft pick Rudy Gay that year? I know we were trying to put solid pieces around YAO and Battier is without a doubt a solid piece; but now that the team is a much younger team, and Battier is hungry for a title; Do you guys think Rudy Gay would have had a home here in Houston?
No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Thanks.

No.
Rudy is an explosive athlete and a good basketball player, but I honestly don’t think we would have made it past Portland last year with Shane.

Why Shane not Rudy Gay
Check out the New York Times Article, “The No-Stats All Star”. A jaw dropping 9 page article about what makes Shane special and gives big insight into how Morey thinks. His intangibles still are important on a young team.
Also, Gay would not have gotten the same playing time in Houston (especially with Van Gundy) and probably wouldn’t have developed the way he has in Memphis.

Yeah.
For a while he was pretty much handed the keys to the offense at Memphis.

Can we please frame that article?
But seriously, Rudy Gay would be helpful now. Unfortunately, he’s not here. Shane’s leadership is better here I think, and will go a long way to helping this team out next season. Anyone notice that Memphis hasn’t been very good since they traded Shane away? Who’s been their starting SF? Rudy Gay. Enough said.

In Daryl Morey, Rick Smith and Ed Wade we (usually) trust.

Giving their Allstar way for packet of chips to LA doesnt help either
"It's who we are," Battier said. "I don't think we're going to get the love of the six foot blonde bombshell. That's what the Lakers are here for. It's alright, I like our demographic."

I think I should have been clearer on my post.
I meant Gay was the sole contributer on offense for Memphis – not Battier.

Has Gay really developed
He’s the same player he was as a rookie. And he’s on a terrible team where he has the space to do the little he is

Gay has room to develop.
He’s young, and it’s possible that one day he’ll become something more than he is now.
But, right now, he’s just another NBA athlete who has failed to turn his physical gifts into something special. He’s a volume shooter who isn’t efficient, he plays awful defense, and his other skills (passing, rebounding) are decent but in no way make up for his mediocrity in other areas.
As it stands right now, Battier is worth more to the Rockets even as he declines over the next few seasons than Gay is over the same time. Battier is low-usage, high efficiency, and has great secondary skills. He (like Ariza) fits in well with the team in a way that another high-usage player like Gay would not.
The NBA is littered with players like Gay, and I’m not particularly confident that he’ll ever put it together.
