Sergio Llull
Just saw this on BP, thought I'd share it:
Sergio Llull, Real Madrid
Age: 21.4 | Translated Stats: .407 Win% | .566 TS% | 13.4 Usage | 3.9 Reb% | 4.31 Pass Rating
Comps: Deron Williams (92.6); Delonte West (92.5); Daniel Gibson (92.4); Tony Parker (90.6); Ray Allen (90.1)
A likely second-round pick, Llull also looks like a potential steal. He’s got a diverse offensive game with the ability to really shoot it (95.5 percent from the free throw line; 33.6 percent on threes, albeit at an extraordinarily high volume) and very competent ballhandling skills. That draws comparisons to some elite players. The question mark with Llull, and what holds down his translated winning percentage, is the other end of the court. He’s a complete non-factor on the glass, gets few steals and fouls at an astronomical rate–a translated 5.1 per 40 minutes. (Actually, all of these guys foul a great deal, though Rubio in particular has more of an excuse because of all the good he’s doing defensively in the process of drawing those fouls.) Surely, someone will take the gamble that Llull can figure things out and live up to his offensive potential.
It looks like another great pick from Morey. If Llull has another strong year in Europe, we'd then have the option to renounce our rights to Lowry and bring over Sergio to back up AB, giving us more cap space next summer...Or he could a nice piece in a trade next summer as well...
Anyone else have a huge man crush on Morey right now? He is AWESOME!
No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Thanks.

Yeah, I read that on draft night.
And, looking at the few videos available of him, he’s a pretty interesting shoot-first point guard. He (like every other PG Morey has targeted) is pretty quick, though he’s obviously a lot bigger than Brooks or Lowry. More of a combo-guard type.
Pelton’s comparables are an intriguing mix. Delonte, Ray Allen, and Gibson are all good-to-great three-point shooters. Williams is good, though his percentages have fluctuated a bit. Parker doesn’t really have much range. Llull’s numbers in Europe indicate that he’s a good perimeter shooter, but the three-point line there is shorter (I’m pretty sure about that. They use FIBA’s line, right?), so who knows? But he’s a big guy, and he’s reportedly very good at getting to the basket.
Also, I think (though, again, I’m not sure) that Pelton’s Euroleague translation system is brand new. I know that Basketball Prospectus’ ATH college translation system (which likes Jermaine Taylor, btw) was just developed this year, and I think the same is true of their Euro stuff. So take it for what it is – pretty much a guess.

BP's translation stuff is pretty new
But given it supports the Taylor and Llull picks I’d have to guess it’s not too shabby. It’s interesting to note that BP is not too high on Chase- I wonder if Morey saw him more as a project player who could really improve under the Rockets’ player development staff. He definitely has all the tools to be a good NBA player, just never really put it together at Arizona.
As for Llull, I think best-case scenario we bring him over next year to backup AB when he’ll be 22. He’s playing for one of the best teams in Spain and plays against some good competition in the Euroleague, which is great for his development. It’s always tough to get excited about Euro prospects because they’re always so hit or miss, but I feel like worst-case with Llull we can always use him in some trade package if he regresses a bit this year in Europe.

Why would you need to renounce rights to Lowry?
You can trade him or ABZ if Llull works out. Both guys have good (Lowry) to great (Brooks) trade value right now

Well
We could always make a QO to him but then we might have to pay him. If we renounced his rights, we would increase our cap space to chase free agents. Either way, you can’t trade a restricted free agent since he won’t be under contract.

Sorry, good point
Should have thought about that whole “he has to be under contract piece” ;-)

At the same time
I would obviously like to keep Lowry going forward. If there was a top tier free agent out there and we needed to shed a few million in salary, Lowry would be the obvious choice to go if Llull was ready to backup AB.
