Rockets sign Budinger
The Rockets signed Chase Budinger today, making him the second of our three second-round draft selections to be signed.
From FOX 26 Sports:
The Houston Rockets reached a contract agreement with rookie forward Chase Budinger according to his agent Kevin Bradbury.
Bradbury told FOX 26 Sports Tuesday Budinger's deal with the Rockets is for two years with team options for two more years.
"This is a great opportunity for Chase," Bradbury said. "The Rockets really stepped up by giving him a deal that is comparable to what a first rounder would receive.

Nice man...
Unlike some of the other guys on the board, I don’t know that much about Budinger except that he’s got a sick shot, good ups, and horrible defense.
But I’m really happy about this signing, because it gives definitive proof that our owner is still one of the best in the game.
Les Alexander and Daryl Morey are two of the biggest reasons why its easy to be a Rockets fan during the bad times. You always know that we have a GM with a game plan, and we have an owner who will support that game plan, and will make educated decisions with his money in order to give us the best chance to win. I love that.
Signing a second round draft pick to ‘first round money’? Knowing Morey, there’s gotta be more than meets the eye with Budinger, and, thanks to Alexander, the Rockets are going to be the team that gets to find out what that is.
I count that is as subtle sign number 33432 that the Rockets aren’t even close to panic mode and are still scheming short term, mid term, and long term.
I like the signing, too
Budinger was the 2nd best value pick in the entire 2nd round (behind the Spurs stealing DeJuan Blair). I know more about Chase than I do about, say, Jermaine Taylor – so I hope Chase contributes in a way that Novak did for a couple seasons. Maybe Chase can even at least try to play some defense?
There is no try.
If chase wants to see any minutes he’s going to do more than try. He’ll actually have to play D – too bad the GSW didn’t draft him. But he’s a rocket and rockets play d or they don’t play. Usually, anyway.s

But what about the recently departed cookie?
Chase will get some minutes if he brings things that the Rockets need without detracting too much in other areas.

Well
If you mean the departure of Baron Von Wafer, well, he’s gone isn’t he? As an effectively free player it was fairly easy to overlook his flaws. He brought a lot to the table for what he cost last year. Evidently not enough for 2.5 million.
And the Rockets spent real money for Taylor and Budingrrr. More will be expected from guys management consider 1st round talent.

I totally agree...
wasn’t Scola a 2nd round pick? Look how BADASS he was last year. I’m ready for the run-and-gun style of these new-look Rockets.

well
It’s hard to compare foreign 2nd rounders to guys who played in the NCAA.
Manu Ginobili and a bunch of other guys were 2nd rounders, too – but only because they had pro contracts outside the USA and NBA teams had to wait for ’em.
further proof
That Morey knows exactly what he’s doing. Chase is gonna be a monster once Yao gets back, feasting off the inside outside game and C-Bud’s lights out shooting.
James White
I’m going to presume this spells the end for James White? His contract was not guaranteed and the Rockets now have 15 guaranteed contracts going into camp.

Flight
just can’t seem to put it together. It’s a shame – he’s such a good athlete.

I'm sure he'll be on the summer league team
Maybe he’ll be back? You can only hope.

Not that I’m complaining, just looking to clarify the roster situation.

david andseron also signed today
The Rockets signed F/C David Andersen to a multiyear contract on Wednesday.
The Rockets acquired his rights in a trade with Atlanta on July 14, and he’s expected to get plenty of minutes at center with Yao Ming likely out for the season.

two years guaranteed,
then two team option years. The first two years are worth around $3 million.
Basically, he got the equivalent of a late-1st round contract.

Bud Light unfolds!
Watch out, the triggerman has landed.. He will shoots the lights out!
Steal
Morey straight up stole Budinger. He’s a great passer, shooter and is very athletic. Right now he has high role player potential, If he works with Shane/Ariza defensively he could be a real special player.
