FOX Houston: Barry will not return to Rockets

From Mark Berman of FOX Houston:

HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Thursday guard Brent Barry will not be back with the Houston Rockets for the upcoming season.

Barry will either be traded or he will retire with the Rockets expected in that case to buy out his contract which had one year remaining.

We sort of knew this already.  However, the report hints to a specific development.  We'll keep you updated.

I guess Barry is definitely retiring.

Kind of an odd thing to announce, otherwise.

Right

So it will probably be James White vs. Jermaine Taylor for the last spot, assuming other D-Leaguers don’t make serious noise (always possible-can’t forget Von Wafer).

How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!

We shouldn't have let Von go.

We need his scoring more than ever now. Who will lead us in scoring ? If its Shane Battier, gonna be a looooong season.

Not really

At least not me, anyway. I liked Barry. He was a veteran influence. He admittedly did little on the court for us, but we weren’t paying him much (the LLE, I believe-around $1.1M).

Though drafting Chase made him expendable.

Agreed. Fans forget he was a good influence on Brooks as his backcourt partner early in the season. His shot was also warming up until he had that long term injury.

I think it’s unfortunate that Houston fans turned on him mostly because McGrady fans were looking to find a scapegoat to vent on, re-direct frustations from.

Numbers would seem to suggest he did better in his time here

than most fans think. He was a decent 3rd-string guard.
