FOX Houston: Barry will not return to Rockets
From Mark Berman of FOX Houston:
HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Thursday guard Brent Barry will not be back with the Houston Rockets for the upcoming season.
Barry will either be traded or he will retire with the Rockets expected in that case to buy out his contract which had one year remaining.
We sort of knew this already. However, the report hints to a specific development. We'll keep you updated.

I guess Barry is definitely retiring.
Kind of an odd thing to announce, otherwise.

Right
So it will probably be James White vs. Jermaine Taylor for the last spot, assuming other D-Leaguers don’t make serious noise (always possible-can’t forget Von Wafer).
How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!

We shouldn't have let Von go.
We need his scoring more than ever now. Who will lead us in scoring ? If its Shane Battier, gonna be a looooong season.

Not really
At least not me, anyway. I liked Barry. He was a veteran influence. He admittedly did little on the court for us, but we weren’t paying him much (the LLE, I believe-around $1.1M).
Though drafting Chase made him expendable.

Agreed. Fans forget he was a good influence on Brooks as his backcourt partner early in the season. His shot was also warming up until he had that long term injury.
I think it’s unfortunate that Houston fans turned on him mostly because McGrady fans were looking to find a scapegoat to vent on, re-direct frustations from.

Numbers would seem to suggest he did better in his time here
than most fans think. He was a decent 3rd-string guard.

Is Hayes going before Cook?

“ive gotten so caught up in groups of back up big men that i forgot who is starting/coming off the bench, and where people are likely to play. if nothing unusual happens what will be the front court rotation in your opinion?
(I think Andersen will start. The Rockets would like Landry and Scola to be able to play some backup minutes, but against some teams, they would need a bigger body, Pops Mensah-Bonsu or Dorsey. — Jonathan)"
Hayes does have a supporter in Thibodeaux, who happens to be with the Celtics.
3 team trade:
Minny: Scalabrine, TAllen, Giddens
Boston: Wilkins, Hayes, White (non-guaranteed)
Hou: Atkins ($760k guaranteed)
Hou buys out Barry for $900k, Boston sign Barry for vet min ($1.3 million). Barry doesn’t lose any money.
Boston:
Rondo, House, (Barry)
Allen, Wilkins, Barry
Pierce, Daniels, Walker
Garnett, Davis, Hayes
Perkins, Wallace, Williams
Rockets save around $3.3 million
Hou:
Brooks, Lowry, Atkins/Conroy
Ariza, Taylor, McGrady
Battier, Budinger, Cook
Scola, Landry, Mensah-Bonsu
Andersen, Dorsey, Yao

Why do people keep thinking something is going to be done with Chuck Hayes?
I’ve not read even the slightest whisper of Chuck Hayes going. The Rockets like D, and Chuck is an amazing defender. Moreover, he now has the REP as an outstanding defender, which means he’ll get more calls, or non-calls.
"So do you keep open 3pt FG percentage?"
"Yeah, we'd have everything you'd want, Bill."
"I hate you."

in Houston.
Everywhere else in the league he’s known as a vastly undersized scrub C who can’t shoot FTs.

unless they aren't painfully unaware of the NBA
in which case they probably saw the playoffs this year, so they know how good Chuck is.

oh, and they have to not be painfully stupid, either
because I’ve talked to plenty of Rockets fans who don’t get it, either.

I guess people call him a C
But he’s really a PF type, and not tall there either

That shouldn't have posted...
I was going to cancel and ask Laddie to post the face palm. Saying he’s a bad center is sort of like saying Yao is a bad PG- not really the point.

haha

Get it? The point? As in point guard?
Sorry, I had to. Now back to our previous discussion. I love how a post about Barry retiring/getting traded can lead to a discussion about the value of Chuck Hayes to this team. Real discussion about these topics wouldn’t see the light of day at Clutch Fans. We’d be talking about how we could trade Chuck straight up for Ricky Rubio (“They’ll need someone to back up Kevin Love, so they’ll do it”) or how we could trade Barry for Steve Nash (“They’d be getting a shooter for shooter. Therefore, fair trade.”)
Though with Steve Kerr, you never know…
