As Wiz move to demolish roster, front office is seriously exploring a deal for T-Mac's expiring deal, sources say. [Caron] Butler likely bait.

a very over paid player injured player. why do we wanna tradetmac for tmac?
$10 million plus is too much for CB.

Thanks for posting this, Evan
I would actually be interested, so long as we don’t throw in a draft pick.

let's see:
Overpaid [x]
Another forward [x]
Eats most/all of the Rockets’ cap space for next season [x]
Yep, this would suck.
If Ariza can play the 2...
You don’t think that Butler can? He’s overpaid, but it’s only 9 mil for next year. Could be worse. He’s probably as good or better than anyone we could get in FA (honestly, it’s a party that we’re going to have to try to sneak into, and Joe Johnson will be much more difficult to get than we think).
He’s quietly one of the more efficient players in the league, and as far as this season is concerned, he’s had to deal with a new coach, a bunch of new players, and a different scheme that surrounds a crappy has-been in Arenas. He’s atop the list of those who need a change of scenery.

I do not understand everyone’s obsession with Johnson. He has never struck me as anything more than a lower-tier all-star, if that. Now, I like quite a few of those, and I hope the Rockets can acquire one, but Johnson is not worth the amount of money people seem to think he does.
You don’t think that Butler can?
I suppose he can. You’re right.
He’s quietly one of the more efficient players in the league,
On the offensive end, yes.
He’s probably as good or better than anyone we could get in FA
Probably, since we’re not going to compete in the FA market unless Battier’s contract is dumped (which won’t happen). Howevuh, I hope that the Rockets can find something better than this on the trade market.
Good point.
I’ve never looked at him that way before.
Thanks for the insight, Stephen A.

actually
I’ve changed my mind.
QUITE FRANKLY, CARON BUTLER IS THE BEST FORWARD SINCE SLAVA MEDVEDENKO.
Is it strange that I miss Stephen A?
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him make an ass out of himself, and it saddens me that there will be no more SASHSOG draft videos. Say what you will about his skills as an NBA reporter and analyst, his antics were hilarious.
True.
I miss Slava as well.

Oh, and
Caron Butler isn’t too bad on defense, and he can’t be worse than Tracy. Yeah, if Mac is up against Kobe or LeBron or All-Star X, then he’ll step up on defense, but he tanks against other folks out there.

I don't think we desperately need Butler for his defense
We’ve already got Ariza and Battier to rotate on the opponent’s best wing. If we lose Battier in two years, we still have Ariza.

we may not need him for his defense
but he still has to play defense when he’s on the court. Do his offensive contributions outweigh his defensive failings? Yes, they do, but not enough to drastically upgrade the Rockets, imo.
And that’s the key – we can probably find quite a few players who will add something to this team, but it’s much more difficult to find someone who will take them to the next level. Yao will make this team a very dangerous foe in the playoffs. Another all-star level talent will make them title contenders. And that’s what has to be found. If that player can’t be acquired with Tracy’s contract, it’s better to see what can be found in the FA market in the offseason.
Or...
We do nothing, improve next season, and then….
DURANT 2 HOUSTON 2011. zOmg!

I lawled at the zOmg
It doesn’t matter what we do (within reason). When Yao comes back, it’s automatically an improvement.
For Houston, sure
I’m just going to assume you left that part off. I know you hate him and all and just love Kobe (and I freaking HATE Kobe, or rather the obsessive manner Laker fans adore him) but you seriously are mistaken if you think McGrady was never more than a lower-tier all star in Orlando.
Since when is Caron viewed as overpaid?
He’s having a down season but I thought the general consensus was that he’s on a pretty fair contract.

I'd rather have caron then gilbert.
Rockets>>>>>>Jazz
Texans>>>>>>>Titans
Super Mario>>>>>>>Vince Young
Doesn't everyone?
Gilbert and Brand possibly have the worst contracts in the league.
Minnesotan Rockets fan
TMac's is up this year
Brand will be making 18 million in 2012/13 and Arenas will be making 22 million in 2013/14. Those are long, expensive contracts for players who are probably both past their primes.
defense?
the rockets arent going to get the perfect player/players, if Caron’s defense seems to be the only thing in question im pretty sure he wouldnt be guarding the big name players as long as battier and ariza are still on the team
I actually wouldnt mind this dead IF
it doesnt seriously limit Shane and Ariza’s effectiveness and also Ariza’s development. But I guess Ariza can play at the 2 since he’s more effective there IMO. Shane can come off the bench and Caron could start in his place. Not to mention we have a guy we could go to in clutch situations to create his own shot besides Aaron. I like.
I like this for the Rockets
The wizards and rockets are my two favorite teams in that order. I watch mostly every wizards game and I think Caron could very much help this team. He can make a j and brings more of a mid-range and in/ post up game that the rockets don’t have from the 3. He has averaged 4.3 and 4.9 assists the last 2 years which the rockets could use out of another position besides the pgs. And most of you guys are selling him short big time on the defensive end. he is probably the wizards best perimeter defender (not saying much) and if u put him on a team that hustles and plays d like the rockets, his competitiveness will REALLY come out big time. And it is not out of the question for him to start at SG. The only problem is the minutes between him trevor and shane but i havent really had the opportunity to watch the rockets and understand their rotation this year.
post up game from the 3?
MABY I should have had that last shot.
