Rockets/Suns goes to OT... Rockets sadly can't force a 2OT

The less said about tonight's game the better.

Trevor Ariza does get credit for making an improbable 3 to send the game into OT.

Trevor Ariza, however, immediately  loses all the credit I just gave him for catching Charles Oakley Disease during that same OT.  You made one shot... that doesn't mean you are hot, Trevor.  Stop shooting so much.

Rockets lose another home game to a team that had been slumping badly.

Ugh.

(There was a Joey Dorsey sighting, but like the rest of his teammates, he didn't feel like boxing out either.  Bummer.  The Rockets made the goofy Lopez brother look like Yao.)

The two Trevor threes in the overtime I actually didn't mind a lot

The first one wasn’t a great shot, but Landry was right next to the basket and should have gotten the rebound (but didn’t as the ball had a bounce) so I think that’s why Trevor shot, assuming that if he missed, Landry would just grab it and dunk.
And the second one if I’m correct was open, coming off a Landry offensive rebound. Those weren’t bad shots. They just didn’t go in.

It was definitely a better loss than the last few games, but we definitely miss Lowry. Conroy was rather average the few minutes he played, and Lowry provides a huge spark that he doesn’t.

well...

He rushed both shots.

PLUS Landry was open for a layup on both. Trevor shooting a 3 early in the shot clock is NOT a good shot. I don’t care how open he is.

Overall the Rockets needed to run more. In a halfcourt set, they simply cannot get an open shot that isn’t 25 feet away from the basket.

That first 3 Trevor hoisted up at the beginning of overtime, early in the shot clock, really bugged me

Because, correct me if my memory fails, wasn’t ABZ wide open for a three in the corner?? Like his sweet spot? I wanted to strangle Ariza. I really hoped Adelman would take him out for the overtime, if we had Lowry I wouldn’t be surprised if he had.

I think we just witnessed how much of a spark Lowry really provides.

I hope they can keep it together until he’s back on the court.

actually

They were only down by 2. ABZ made the front end FT… but had to miss to get the ball back.

by grungedave on Jan 31, 2010 9:35 PM CST up reply actions

that's what I mean, all the more we still had a chance to be only down by 1 pt

Missing the FT was too much of a gamble. I’m wondering whether that was RA’s call?

by RoxBeliever on Jan 31, 2010 10:29 PM CST up reply actions

I'm pretty sure that was RA's call

before Brooks shot the second FT, he kinda walked over to his bench and he was talking to RA. But i really don’t have a problem with the call, even if it was a 1 point game, we foul, let’s say Nash nails both FT, cause we all know the ball’s going to him, then we’re down by 3 with less than 4 seconds left? And honestly I don’t see us hitting a tying three, both ways are gambles, and I think the whole missing the FT thing was the best opinion, would have gone down perfectly if that ref hadn’t called lane violation.

and

if they go back up by 3…they foul agin and we have same dilemma with less time

by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Jan 31, 2010 10:50 PM CST up reply actions

Yes, I agree.....

And in the final play with ABZ trying to shoot he should have done the act fo shooting before he was fouled, would have been a foul for a 3 pt attempt and gotten 3 FT’s, but have to think like a mature player and always know where you are on the court and pay attention to your opponents, where everyone is on the floor…….I think that is a big part of Rockets slumping, PAY ATTENTION!!!!! By not, dumb mistakes happen.

the refs were ridiculous.

they called nothing but fouls on us when they were clean and they gave the suns so many breaks. one foul on us was when stoudemire was driving and dave had his back to him and only put his hands up and there was a foul on dave. absolutely ridiculous. brook’s FT miss was amazing, but the refs were there as the sixth man for the suns to screw us once again. i will give the rockets credit for playing some good D to keep us in this game.

ummm

How exactly did the ref screw us on the Brooks FT play?

He stepped over the line before the ball hit the rim. That was an easy call.

As for Andersen… he’s just getting picked on. Rookie calls. Plus the refs didn’t want to foul out Stoudemire. I’ve long ago accepted that there are “star treatment” calls, so I never blame the refs for things like that.

Does it just have to break the plane or does the foot have to be down? Because he only broke the plane.

Also even if it was technically correct it was kind of a ticky-tack call.

by OremLK on Jan 31, 2010 10:10 PM CST up reply actions

To answer my own question:

d. The free throw shooter may not cross the plane of the free throw line until the ball touches the basket ring, backboard, or the free throw ends.

So it appears the ref was correct, at least technically speaking.

Yes but we are at home.....

I have seen too many bad ref calls on our home court this last week, how about Denver going to the line so many times, more than half of ours? Home Court usually gets better treatment!!

I thought the same thing!

Or try to convince the Suns that he’s worth a pay raise to keep him

by ressaliance_00 on Jan 31, 2010 10:35 PM CST up reply actions

problem is...

Amare also had a season high in fouls……..

by grungedave on Jan 31, 2010 11:42 PM CST up reply actions

Well

Once again somebody has a career night when they play us, just our luck!

by ressaliance_00 on Jan 31, 2010 10:35 PM CST reply actions

no, just our defense

at least, andre miller did not drop 52 on us when we played them

not that I would want him back, but this is where we see Ron Artest alongside Yao last year making us so tough inside

Brooks chocked on that layup. Damn.. So close
