Game 23 Preview: Cleveland Cavaliers at Houston Rockets

The Rockets lost to the Bucks last night. They allowed the tempo to be slowed and couldn't play any defense. Their punishment is to fly back to Houston and play the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This will be a pretty quick preview, so no jump today.

Onto the matchups...

PG: Kyle Lowry vs. Mo Williams:

Both of these guys can ball. Mo is a better shooter, but Lowry is the better point guard. Therefore, they're even.

Advantage: Even

SG: Kevin Martin vs. Daniel Gibson

Joey Graham had been starting at the shooting guard spot, and then Boobie Gibson got the job as Byron Scott has tried to change it up.

Advantage: Rockets

SF: Shane Battier vs. Anthony Parker

Parker is the Cavs' perimeter defender, and he's pretty similar to Shane. Not as good, of course, but younger.

Advantage: Even

PF: Luis Scola vs. Antawn Jamison:

J.J. Hickson was supposed to be the stud power forward, but he's been replaced by Jamison since Antawn's knee has become more healthy.

I still think Luis is better.

Advantage: Rockets

C: Chuck Hayes vs. Anderson Varejao:

Varejao reminds me of a more scrappy Joakim Noah. He can hit jump shots and is constantly being the energy guy for the Cavs.

Advantage: Cavs

---

Bench:

Cavaliers: Manny Harris, Jawad Williams, Ryan Hollins, J.J. Hickson, Joey Graham

Rockets: Ish Smith, Courtney Lee, Brad Miller, Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger, Jermaine Taylor, Jared Jeffries

Advantage: Rockets

Injuries:

Cavs: None

Rockets: Brooks out, Yao out

Prediction: Rockets should win this

Still an easy schedule

the rest of the month. I just wish the Rockets would take advantage of it.

i fucking hate

how you put that annoying pussy over Chuck Hayes. Sure it was just a typo tho :)

I found 83 cents in my backyard after last night's party..I'm not returning it until the owner describes what coins were lost in EXACT change. -Willie White's status

That annoying pussy

Happens to be one of the league’s best defenders. He can guard anyone 1-5 and lock him down. He’s flopping less and playing better. I still hate him, but he’s way more valuable than Chuck.

by Patrick Harrel on Dec 11, 2010 1:56 PM CST up reply actions

he also

led the league in +/- per minute last season, which I think is the better way of looking at it rather than just straight up +/-. For every four minutes on the floor last season, Varejao gave the Cavs an extra point. It doesn’t sound like much, but trust me it’s quite substantial. For comparison, Kevin Durant had to be on the floor for over 7 minutes to give his team an extra point over the opposition.

How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!

#'s lie

big time. Lebron made everybody on the court productive.
You can use #s to show that Shawn Bradley wasn’t extra weak. Did you know that? #‘s lie, the camera don’t. You can use #s to show that Chauncey Billups is a “top 10 pg” but you’d be missing all those shot-clock murders (extended dribbling) and those shitty transition-pull-up-contested 3s. (Mr. Big Shot my ass). #s also showed that Cleveland was the best team last year (reg season)..just sayin
#s also trick the media into buying into that the “Knicks are back.” Look at the schedule.
point is, #s dont tell the story..
If they did, Varejeo wouldn’t look so lost vs Boston last year. (Noah even killed him during 1st round)

+1

Specially for calling Chauncey out

I'm not actually a big believer in numbers

but I have to give credit to Varejao for being able to compete with better centers despite not having their total skill sets. Much like Chuck.

wtf

are u talking about?! He can lock anyone down..wtf.
So he can lock down Monte Ellis? Rose? Or what about some random scrub umm..D Wade? how bout oh those are just guards and sf’s…..my bad. He can lock down Dwight? Can he even hold Beasley? (killed him other night)
i BET U SCOLA murders him tonight..Chuck is the best under 6’7 post lockdown IN THE LEAGUE..Chuck is a badass..we can dispute this if you’d like. Cavs are the sorriest team in the league right now..

Dude, he's a center.

So no, there are players he can’t defend. But a center that won’t get burned by a PG or SG every time, who can rotate onto one and not get killed? That has some real value.

The reason he’s more valuable than Hayes is all in his height and the fact that his offense is better. It doesn’t mean Hayes is bad, but if CLE offered him 1-1 for Chuck I’d say yes in a nanosecond. And I love me some Chuck.

I'd be pretty happy to have The Vaj on our team.

you'd be happy to have him

the same way you’d love to have Erica Dampier for height. Chuck..is the anchor of our defense. His demeanor inspires not just the team, but the city Xiane. The city.

..if we had The Vag, Our team would slowly turn into a vag. A giant 1

I think you're underestimating Chuck's influence.

There would have been no climate deal in Cancun if not for Chuck.

Like I said in the preview yesterday

We are not a good road team. Yes we beat the Lakers at home, but on the road we are not better than half the teams in the association. Hopefully that’ll change when AB comes back
That being said, we should win tonight

Ugh, I don't know if I'll watch this

I’ve got a week of exams coming up, and if the Rockets lose I’ll probably be too pissed to study

If you're a fan of basketball, watch a movie called Sonicsgate. It's free, just google it.

I'm guaranteeing a W tonight

does that sweeten the pot?

For sure.

Decided I was going to watch. I’m pissed that I had to sell my tickets, but if all goes well the next two days then I’m still heading to the Monday Night Football game
