Yes, A Trade Post

I have been having fun tinkering with ESPN trade machine today, and I had an idea:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=35vuo3r

HOU receives: Andre Iguodala, Chris Andersen

PHI receives: Kyle Lowry, Jared Jeffries, Kris Humphries, maybe a first rounder from us

NJN receives: Carmelo Anthony, Andres Nocioni

DEN receives: Derrick Favors, Chase Budinger, Troy Murphy, Shane Battier, and is showered with picks from New Jersey

For us, this trade would wipe the slate clean at the SF position, and gives us someone who I think is both a starting quality center and a good defender. We get better on both ends of the floor at the swingman (considering the addition of Williams), we sell as high as possible on Lowry, and we increase our presence around the rim by adding a legitimate shot blocker.

Philly gets a starting quality point guard who could very well help Holiday develop his game, and makes Lou Williams or Lowry a valuable trade chip for Philly in the summer. They'd also be rid of all excessive salary with the exception of Brand, and can start a bunch of young guys and maybe grow them like the Thunder (their starting lineup could conceivably be Lowry, Turner, Young, Brand and Speights). Humphries has also been somewhat of a surprise sensation this year, particularly in the rebounding department.

New Jersey gets Carmelo while keeping their other two coernstone-type pieces.

Denver gets the #3 pick in the draft, cheap young talent, lots of draft picks, and 2 sizable expiring contracts.

Honestly, I think this is a reasonable trade. Thoughts?

No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Do not cut/paste entire sections of content from other websites. Thanks.

does he have a no trade clause?

i think not.

I think its actually a pretty decent trade proposal. One of the better ones.
76’ers get a little bit of the raw end of the deal. I think they could probably get better for iggy. Its the only real kink I see.
They really dont need anymore forwards.

It's not that good.

Neither Iggy nor the Birdman is a solution to our problems. Trading away Battier is not a great idea. Guys like Hill, Williams, etc. need veteran leadership.

by Keelhaul on Dec 17, 2010 5:01 AM CST up reply actions

The main problem is

This is an all-in strategy on a year which is probably not a contender year for us. As such it will backfire long term. Since there is an extremely low chance of short term gains, there is just no need to take those long term pains. We’d better go for some under the radar high-potential players, if possible. If we sign Igoudala, Williams won’t get any meaningful PT, we give a pretty talented guy on a nice contract (I think Lowry will pan out to be a huge bargain for what he does) and get another big man.

Question: who will have his PT cut in the frontcourt? What kind of rotation would we have?

Jeffries should IMO be traded, but we should try to go for a trade where there is a feasible stable rotation possible. This is not a trade that fits into that category.

by Keelhaul on Dec 17, 2010 5:17 AM CST up reply actions

On a second thought (sorry for the flood)

If we could dump Hayes and Brooks (sorry Chuck) instead of Lowry, that’d be nice. If we get Igoudala, we’ll be in trouble keeping Brooks, so we’re better off trying to squeeze value for him when it’s possible.

by Keelhaul on Dec 17, 2010 5:22 AM CST up reply actions

my own trade idea..

my trade

houston: nene, Iggy
philly: lowry, al harrington, and Azubuike. ( set themselves up at the pg, and pf positions for awhile. and get a decent developing prospect in azubike)
Ny: melo and get rid of curry.( dare i say contenders?)
Denver: Jeffries, battier, curry. galanari, t-will. plus pick from houston, and pick from ny. ( lots of expirings, talented youth, and picks. rebuilding teams lifeblood. )

by AlDe2356 on Dec 17, 2010 4:10 AM CST reply actions

why do they have to trade away gallinari now when...

they have the best chance of signing melo next year with him.

by suzaku on Dec 17, 2010 6:34 AM CST up reply actions

Useless deal

This team needs to right itself but you don’t trade for an expiring veteran center when you need to lock one in for a while. You don’t ship out youth when you could be on the brink of rebuilding. You don’t put much faith in Ish Smith to give you meaningful minutes for extended periods of time consistently, and Philly is getting overloaded on a position they already have taken care of.

I don't usually plan out my days because the word "premeditation" gets thrown around a lot in courts today.

We would lose

floor stretchers like Battier and Bud. Williams and Iggy are bad 3pt shooters and that is what is helping us keep our heads above water and score so many points.

GO ROCKETS, GO TEXANS, GO ASTROS (EVEN THOUGH THEY SUCK)!!!

by batman713 on Dec 17, 2010 10:27 AM CST reply actions

battier isnt really a floor streacher.

Sure he shoots 3’s.
But he only makes 2-3 shots a game.
Defenses can actually probably sag off him..

by AlDe2356 on Dec 17, 2010 12:39 PM CST up reply actions

they already do

but Battier has stepped up his game as of late and especially his 3pt shooting. Then again if we don’t have Yao anymore what does it really matter?

Battier isn't a floor stretcher

Stopped reading right there.

This trade idea

Gets my seal of disapproval. Overly ornate and for the millionth time, Ish Smith is not an NBA caliber guard who should be getting more than spot duty minutes. This is why time and time again I have said Brooks and Lowry are inseparable as a duo on this team.

As far as getting Iguodala, why? So he can go to a struggling Eastern Conference team to a struggling Western Conference team? He’s not a solution to our problems. He’ snot a long term piece to build around, and he’s not going to make an impact for us in the short term aside from some highlight plays.

As far as Philly in your proposal you send them a point guard because they have two good point guards because that makes sense to you? I’m not paying nigh on 7 mil to a 5th year “mentor” when I have two very capable point guards on my roster, that’s a horrible justification.

Denver does alright with cousins and the expiring deals and draft picks will be nice but I don’t think you bite on that still. No one in the front office for Denver played for the Front office in New Jersey because that deal is to Garnett like.

As far as the trade in and of itself, Jersey is a bit gunshy because Melo won’t sign the extension, which kinks the whole thing anyhow.

I do agree Ish isn't gonna get many minutes

but I know the Rockets have Lull (i think that’s how u spell it) overseas, and there have been many rumors that Morey would love to get Rubio. I think Morey can make a deal for a good or great player, he’d part ways with either Lowry or Brooks. But I don’t know if anyone is out there that’s worth giving one of them up.

by twinkilling0303 on Dec 17, 2010 4:34 PM CST up reply actions

How quickly people forget

that Llull signed an extension with his club for decent money and several more years making it incredibly difficult to get him to the United States…

As far as Rubio, screw him, over-hyped Euro star who won’t translate in the NBA. Neither Lowry or Brooks should go and it is entirely stupid if either do.

A trade was on the horizon

before this happened. This just makes the focus clearer. I like Chucky but having to listen to him get announced as our starting center for the rest of the year is not on my Christmas list. That leaves us with the question, who can boy wonder con someone out of. The Kings have AB on the brain so that is a place to start. Problem is Cousins would be pricey and Whiteside is not worth moving AB for.
Another prospect is in town tonight. Thabeet has got some ink in trade talk lately, denied by management of course, but where there is smoke…. He carries a pretty hefty contract and what they would want in return might be prohibitive but..
Past that, most of the folks out there fall into the “juice ain’t worth the squeeze” category.
What say you.

I would rather

fellate a hot curling iron.

Haywood has had a massive drop off and why are you looking short term when our need is now long term?

I don't usually plan out my days because the word "premeditation" gets thrown around a lot in courts today.

by BD34 on Dec 17, 2010 6:59 PM CST up reply actions

Not a suggestion

just repeating what was out there. And it was dallas media. Once they open the conversation, the menu is set, we are then left to work out the price. Haywood is not happy. They bought into that long term. Thus the price could fall. Just so happens, JJ has almost the same contract as Haywood. Expiring contract, toss in a draft pick, dallas is in a much better position in the mello derby. DM has a Jedi mind f**k moment…
Would you have believed the KG deal before it happened? I think Haywood can still play, for JJ and a pick I’m down.

by makinmajik on Dec 18, 2010 12:25 AM CST up reply actions

Haywood signed

a 6 year, 55 million dollar deal. You will be paying him roughly 9 million dollars a year even after the CBA comes up and gets renewed, he will earn 9 million dollars by year 15 in the league, He will be 40 by the time his contract is up, currently 31. If you think it’s worth trading the expiring contract of Jared Jeffries to lock up an albatross of a deal for a guy who is a career 7.6 PPG, 6.1 or so RPG, and 1.5 BPG player then on top of that you throw out a pick to “sweeten the deal” you’re just talking nonsense.

The Dallas paper is also saying Kevin Martin for Brendan Haywood and filler, I’m going to just ignore that these ideas were ever floated, ok? Bad ideas are bad ideas no matter the source.

Damn

He will be 37 by the time his contract is up, not 40, addition blows.

OK i concede that the Philly side of my proposal

was pretty off. I feel like Williams or Lowry would be good trade pieces, but I also feel like I overvalues that flexibility in the market.

thus, my reproposal, which I think is very sensible:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2426l3y

HOU receives: Nene, Kris Humphries, Anthony Carter, Shelden Williams

NJN receives: Carmelo Anthony, Al Harrington, Chuck Hayes, Renaldo Balkman

DEN receives: Derrick Favors, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, Chase Budinger, Troy Murphy, Sasha Vujacic, and draft picks galore

Deal breakdown: Nene is a piece that fixes our center problem in the short term. I also think playing with the Rockets would incentivize continuing one’s career here (since he’s an upcoming free agent), as opposed to the ‘outside-looking-in’ perspective that free agency offers. Adelman is a fun coach to work with, and the team is solid in the locker room and on the court (we look better and better every game). Kris Humphries, for his contract and size, is an elite rebounder. He has been playing great lately. Daryl and the Denver GM can play hardball with the Nets; if they want Melo that badly, they have to pay for it. He’s one of their value players, and I think one that Morey would target. He makes for an exceptional replacement for Hayes / Hill, and is only 25. Anthony Carter and Williams are small expiring contracts that would never play, but balance the players in / out for the trade as a whole.

Our rotation would be Nene / Miller, Scola / Humphries, Battier / Williams, Martin / Lee, Brooks / Lowry. I don’t think that’s too shabby.

New Jersey gets Melo, and has to pay for it by taking on Al’s recently inked deal. They also get Hayes and Balkman to replace Humphries and Murphy in the frontcourt.

Denver gets out of Al’s deal. They get 2 lottery picks, 3 sizable expiring contracts to go along with JR and Kmart this upcoming summer (letting them start from scratch), a cheap talent in Bud, and a team bad enough to maybe put them in solid position for a lottery slot this May if they make the move prior to the February deadline.

Denver is 15-10

why blow their shot at the post season that way?

As far as that deal, for Houston is shuffles a lot of stuff but doesn’t do anything for us. Again, trade proposals are useless until we see whether or not we’re going to try to win now or we’re going to try to rebuild. Trading for guys like Nene and the likes only work if you’re needing to win now and he’s an expiring deal, so giving a guy like Jordan Hill up is a horrible decision since you’re giving up youth and potential for a one year rental.

I don't usually plan out my days because the word "premeditation" gets thrown around a lot in courts today.

by BD34 on Dec 17, 2010 10:27 PM CST up reply actions

Denver blows their shot

because the fact of the matter is first round flameouts aren’t profitable for owners, and are not pleasing for fans. If they trade Melo, the foundation of the team, then it logically follows that you blow the whole thing up. It nets them (pun not intended) something solid in return (lots of picks, a lottery pick they’d make for themselves, in addition to the 2 lottery pick players they’d receive).

As I said, grabbing Nene now probably increases the chances of him not being a rental (as I had explained originally), plus it gives us his bird rights. Moreover, we still get back young talent in the form of Humphries. Moreover, we already have young big talent and his name is Patrick Patterson. Moreover, Hill is a PF, and he’s going to remain behind Scola for several years in our rotation unless he gets bit by the injury bug. Hill is valuable, but not as valuable as what we get in return, I think. You have to consider what we’d still be holding on to.

As I also mentioned in my follow-up, we still hold on to assets that we cash in for another big move. Let’s say we build a deal with Charlotte to acquire Gerald Wallace and flip someone like Yao or Battier and a set of picks of something. We could hang on in position to make the playoffs, and if we scrape it out, go into late April with a starting rotation of Nene, Scola, Wallace, Martin and Brooks / Lowry. That’s a sick lineup that causes matchup problems for a variety of West teams. This is just speculation (the other trade), but we still have assets to flip in another move.

this kind of deal

if executed quickly, also lets us keep battier and yao’s expiring deals and flip them for something else at the deadline, and possibly frees up some frontcourt time for Patterson. Just some added benefits.

Hmmm Kyle Lowry wouldn’t agree to go to philadelphia you cant trade him without his consent for a year. Its not a bad proposal though, but I think with this trad well maybe get to the conference semifinals.

A line up of

Aaron Brooks
Kevin Martin
Andre Iguodala
Luis Scola
Chris Anderson

just isnt good enough in my eyes sorry.

I like this deal. What do you think?

I could be wrong but I like this deal. We’d be giving up a lot but getting a lot in return.
Trade to Pacers: Lowry, Battier, Patterson, Martin, and maybe a pick

For: Granger, Hibbert, Posey, and Lance Stephenson just to fill out the deal.

I don’t want nasty comments, just want to know what yall think.

by Clifton Hayden Tindal on Dec 21, 2010 2:17 PM CST reply actions

Battier’s contract has value, with 7 mil coming off the books in the offseason. So that would interest the Pacers a bit I would think. I would hate to see Lowry and Martin go, but getting Granger and Hibbert would be amazing. Then not to mention, Yao’s and Jeffries contract expire, giving the Rockets enough to make a max contract in the offseason.

by Clifton Hayden Tindal on Dec 21, 2010 2:20 PM CST up reply actions

You've got to be kidding me

Lowry is the best PG on the team and you want to trade him without getting a PG in that trade to replace him?
