Maybe it would be best for Martin to come off the bench (POLL)
If we have learned anything from the Atlanta Hawks it should be that having a great sixth man is very important. Jamal Crawford's effect on that team as the sixth man has lifted the Hawks to elite status. What is is my point? Crawford and Kevin Martin posses the same skill set and i think he fits well with our current bench especially when Kyle Lowry returns. Well maybe i'm a bit spoiled by watching Carl Landry every night coming up up big for the reserves and in the 4th quarters of games. I often hear Martin's defense critisized so if people think could be a defensive liability then coming off the bench and mostly defending second unit players would justify him as a reserve. Also with the way he gets to the foul line he and Lowry could make for a dilemma for apposing defenses whether starters or reserves. And lastly, he would likely duplicate what Landry was to us in 4th quarters not to mention he would be rested which could increase his already efficient play. In conclusion, while this is all a matter of opinion, Martin should come off the bench because we would still have a primary scorer off the bench, it wouldn't have much effect on our defense, and chemistry also be effected as much. Ultimately it is a decision for the coaching staff and we will have to live with whatever they say. My point is it could provide balance for the Rockets which helps team efficiency and that is something we don't have. What do you think of this.

One Problem
The hawks have two all star caliber players in joe johnson and josh smith so they can afford to have crawford come off the bench. kevin martin is definitely a starter for the rockets- let him at least play a few more games (especially after he get to practice with the team) before judgments like this are passed
I never liked the idea of Ariza playing the 2
And I definitely don’t like the idea of having Battier play the 4. I think Martin should start at 2 with Ariza at his natural 3 and Battier off the bench depending on their defensive assignment for the night. I like Budinger backing up Martin.
i'm not sure battier should be coming off the bench.
ariza would play better off of martin but it is much better to have offense rather than defense come off the bench. ariza is no offensive machine, but he is better than battier. Ron E also brings up a good point about JJ and JS on the hawks. i say start him with ariza/battier, and if he does not show good results, bring him off the bench.
Rockets>>>>>>Jazz
Texans>>>>>>>Titans
Super Mario>>>>>>>Vince Young
No way Martins coming off the bench after the first few games. Dudes making 10 big a year
he’d be the most expensive bench player not named Jeffries on our team. He was brought in for his offense & it was only his first game so he’ll struggle a lil. Look at Jamison with the Cavs 0/12 but in todays game he looked like his old self from what I saw, (caught the game late in the 3rd). Battier I think will eventually end up on the bench just because I think Arizas the future 3 on this team & Battier may be gone in the off season. It seemed to me last night that Bud’s going to lose some playing time unless one of them is shipped out & I believe Buds in the future plans for Morey. Battier well we know he’s well liked but he also seems to be an option next year that teams would want to look at due to his experience & EC.
Martin
does make Ariza a better player, and Battier’s offensive production, I imagine, will go up playing with Lowry. Right now he seems like the 5th option on the offensive end of the floor (since Chuck comes off of screens and cuts a lot more), and would be easiest to move to the bench. On top of that, the Lowry / Budinger connections seems to fuel plenty of offense. Add to that whatever output in terms of alley-oops, put-backs, etc that we get from Jeffries and Hill [and hopefully Armstrong] and we have ourselves a solid bench.
Wafer . . . again. (Marv Albert, HOU v. CLE Feb 2009)
