Von Wafer
It has been confirmed that Von Wafer worked out with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday. After loosing Carl Landry I think it would be a good time to sign Von. Our bench is not as deep now and Von Wafer can provide the depth that we're missing. What are thoughts on this. Von Wafer is a very talented bench player and although inconstant can hit the three very well, even in pressure situations. Plus he is a fan favorite. He really knows how to excite a crowd and is a momentum changer on the court.

the dumbest thing i heard all week...
I agree we need depth. but NOT at the guard position you douchbag. we already have Aaron Brooks , Chase Budinger , Trevor Ariza , Kyle Lowry , Kevin Martin , Jermaine Taylor , AND Garrett Temple….. we have SOOOOO MANY WING PLAYERS.. WE NEED MORE HEIGHT AND STRENGTH IN THE PAINT (SKILL). I’m sure Daryl Morey will find a good backup for Yao Ming over the summer . We could also use another player at the PF.
NEXT YEAR THE ROCKETS ARE GONNA MAKE SOME NOISE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!
GO TEAM MOREY!!!!
Wow.
Agree or disagree, what part of poor Diehard’s fairly well reasoned argument makes him a douchebag? Let’s break this down:
*Rockets have 14 healthy-ish players.
*Wafer’s pretty much a pure SG, Rockets have 5 non-PG players that spend time at SG (Martin, Taylor, Budinger, Ariza, Battier). Of course, Adelman puts his PGs (Brooks, Lowry, and Temple) at the SG at times, but Ariza and Battier are also more natural forwards than guards.
*You could also argue that at this stage in their careers Wafer is better than Taylor and Temple (and, if argumentative, Budinger)
*Your “size and strength” argument seems to mean PF/C players. The Rockets have 6 (Scola, Hayes, Andersen, Hill, Armstrong, and Jeffries).
So, the Rockets have 5-8 players at Wafer’s position, but only 2 actually play pure SG (Martin and Taylor) and Wafer might be better than one of them. They have 6 PF/C. Now, I agree that next year we need a big to spell Yao and we don’t need Wafer to take minutes away from Budinger, but I certainly don’t disagree enough to go ad-hominem against anyone who thinks otherwise.
I think the moment for Von passed when we got Martin.
There’s just not any room for him now.
Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.
here's a warning for you
I’m in a good mood, so I won’t ban you, but if you ever call a commenter a “douchebag” again (for good reason or not), you’re outta here.

Forget Wafer
How many points did we score against the Pacers? How many did we give up? Think our offense is good enough.

I'm all for bringing Von back, but...
We certainly don’t lack for depth. Our roster can easily go 10 deep in a rotation now – especially with Brian Cook jettisoned. The only guys who won’t see much playing time are Yao (obviously), Jared Jeffries and Hilton Armstrong. Everyone else has to be ready on game day.
I think we're going to see plenty of Jeffries in due course.
Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.
sorry guys... ya just got the wrong idea
no offense intended… but VON WAFER is not a pure anything… hes an off the bench catch and shoot player that has knack for getting mass applaud for hitting a shot… sorta what we have in Budinger, minus the athleticism, 3pt % , and work ethic. remember the tirade he pulled off last year in the playoffs with when adelman pulled him out??? i did like Von he did get the crowd going, but bringing him would just take away from the other players we have right now developing…. plus hes not what the rockets need to better help the team going forward…
read my fanpost to better understand my reasoning
thanks and btw… grudgedave im just getting the feel for the blogging thing… so if i came off a little strong for the sensitive or emotional handicapped i do apoligize..
we are on the same team after all…
GO ROCKETS!
Sensitive? Emotionally Handicap?
Just because someone doesnt like being called names, doesnt make them emotionally handicap. It only makes you look childish and immature. Your post would have been fine if you wouldnt included all the personal attacks.

What a SG does.... lol
CALL HIM A CENTER FOR ALL I CARE!
fact is he is similar to C-Buds game but i feel that bud has more room to grow as a player
plus hes WHITE… lol jk but its nice to see the white boy play
Any beef out on the market
Because after watching New Orleans manhandle us inside…oh wait, Rick played…Trevor Ariza at PF last night? ARE YOU KIDDING ME RICK? We need some more Scola guys. More Luis would do the trick (not the sickening 38mpg that Ariza gets, but somewhere in the 32-35mpg range would do great).
B^2
In Daryl Morey, Rick Smith and Ed Wade we (usually) trust.
We dont need Wafer
He will just take minutes from Budinger if he plays and he would do it while playing less defense. Getting Martin already takes minutes from Brooks, Lowry, and Budinger so we dont need someone else to compete for minutes, especially someone who doesnt pass or play defense.
To all Houston sports fans, Houston is the 4th biggest city in America, there will be traffic on the way to your respective sports game. Come Early, Be Loud, Stay Late.
Yes Sign WAFER
But, Yeah theres too many players too do anything right now
but hes my favorite player that was a rocket
besides tmac and landry i still call that trade the WORST trade ever. the future yeah right
what happens if this is the next tmac and yao situation, what do you do then. sit back and wait a few years then trade away your best player (s).
If you trade tmac then you might as well trade yao as well.
maybe a sign and trade this summer involving STAT or CB4.
yao is just getting older any contract that he gets has to be a reduction in pay.
I think you ar right on everything, as far as Tracy, Landry, and Yao. I have been arguing 20 people about this trade. Finally quit.
However, I do wonder if Wafer’s showman ship was/is just to much for the Rockets now. I hated to see him go but i think we should build around the new guys. This year he might be a good addition, but next year I think we could do better.
Maybe a one year deal and see how he does? Chemistry wise because Budinger might be the new man in town
Yeah somebody worth watching
Some Explosiveness off the bench.
just like the way he pumps up the crowd
i just think it is boring too watch the games now without anyone like that
but when i see bud out there im just saying shoot the three. very good shot and rhythm
I also want to see more of JT because they say he can score but noooooooooo they dont let him play unless we are losing like in the past games. i just think that we shouldnt try to make the playoffs and just play our new players and rookies to show what they got and show where they at now. Let them progress at see if they deserve a spot or take a spot from our veterans.
Even if we get in the playoffs, we will most likely get knocked out in the first round.
while the draft is considered weak, we might have a chance to move up if we were in the lottery. Perhaps a surprise like the next, aaron or landry or bud.
I liked Von here in Houston
And he brought some explosiveness. But with a young team like we currently have let’s keep the headcases to a minimum. lol
