Can't believe Martin is still coming off the bench
The Battier/Ariza combo has got to go. Ariza 0-4 so far.

Well, I'm sure that's a chemistry thing.
Martin will be there once he gets a couple of days to practice.
I think that's what it is.
It’s not Rick & his staff. It’s the other players that have to get used to Kevin.
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16
probably after a couple solid practices, RA will change that

good luck on whether RA will trust Hill enough this eraly
even with the new guys, this is still a typical Houston game. Our offense is iffy and our defense is too deferential to the opponents

I don't agree with what Adelman is doing
Until they’ve practiced, I don’t think he should be mixing up the rotation so much. Lowry being out complicates things, but the groups Adelman has been putting out on the floor have been bizarre these last couple nights.
Martin, yes, you have to put him in there, but put him in the normal rotation, and Temple when Lowry would come in. Otherwise, wait for practice to make adjustments.
ugh, not our game
but jeffries shows promise. i like what i see. he needs work on his lay-ups though.

I think Ariza's shooting is going to go down in direct proportion to Martin's going up.
Ariza is also going to take better shots – at least he should. I think he’s going to go back to being a very dangerous 4th option. Not instantly, but soon.

That kid is driven
Been sitting on the bench watching Chris Paul do it all this time, finally gets his chance.
$10 says the Hornets either trade him for a player filling a position of need this summer, or finally break down and trade CP3. (Probably the former.)
You made a thread on ClutchFans about not trading Brooks
but yeah… certainly you’d trade him to New Orleans to get CP3, no?
by goingforthecorner on Feb 21, 2010 8:34 PM CST up reply actions
Of course.
I just wouldn’t move him to sign and trade a max free agent (unless it was LeBron/Wade), with the new CBA coming up and not knowing what Brooks’ real potential actually is. Why give up one of your best players to take on $15 million in salary for what may end up being a sidegrade?
If it’s a clear, obvious upgrade, them I’m all for it. Obviously, CP3 would be just that.
Brooks has gotten schooled in two consecutive games
Ford, now Collison. If you can match AB’s speed with speed, you’ll be effective.

Brooks and Martin
is easily one of the worst starting defensive backcourts in the NBA. I understand starting Brooks with Hayes, Battier, and Ariza on the court – you need his offense. But now with Martin probably starting soon, Lowry is a better pair for him than AB.

Interesting shot distribution
Brooks 15
Martin 12
Budinger 11
Jeffries 11
Scola 11
Ariza 10
Battier 9
You’d think Martin would be getting the most shots on this team, way more than Jeffries, Ariza, and Battier. I’m guessing when we get to practice, Adelman will run plenty of plays for him.
by goingforthecorner on Feb 21, 2010 8:32 PM CST reply actions
Well, to be fair, it took him until the 4th quarter to actually hit those shots.
But yeah, I guess he will start against Orlando.
Minnesotan Rockets fan
he was cold until he hit 2 shots in the 4th quarter
what I don’t like is Ariza shooting 3s in the endgame, I thought that’s why we got Martin for

he was missing 3s the whole game
even martin was selective with his shots when he knew he was cold
ariza is beginning to be anti-morey like.
he needs to accept that martin is the better player and that he now should play off of him by catching and shooting the ball rather than pulling up, taking bad shots, or by turning over the ball. adelman HAS to run less plays for ariza and more for martin.

he lets the players read the defense and decide what to do
exactly...
he feels threatened.. he is aspiring to be the main man.. he got his chances half of the season… and it does show he isnt capable of being one.. thats why we get kmart ..He can be the best role player period..

Well we're not the only team struggling since the trade deadline
The Cavs haven’t won since getting Jamison, and they’ve only got 1 player to incorporate-we’ve got 4. So I’m sure with a few solid practices we’ll be back on the right track.

We've gotten a bit of luck from our rivals losing.
All is not lost. I think a couple of practices might, you know might, help integrate our new guys rather than: two days of travel & packing, back-to-back games with travel.
All is well. Remain calm.
At least, that’s what I’m telling myself for now.
Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.
this was the most frustrating loss of the season imo.
i don’t understand why ariza is still the main go to guy the majority of the time. give the ball to kevin fucking martin!!!! we put him in the game to be a dam puppet almost. we ran very few plays for him, and ariza was absolutely horrific. i dont get why adelman would not put in scola instead of ariza in the last two minutes to match up with west and okafor. on top of all of this, the refs screwed us big time with no calls on obvious hacks. (and of course every ticky tack foul was in favor of the hornets). adelman needs to use martin more when on the floor. jeffries played outstanding defense and got a lot of boards. budinger was solid throughout. i dont think we have to start lowry necessarily. we just have to put him in the game late in the fourth. and jeffries is very close to winning the starting job over hayes from the minutes that he got tonight.
Rockets>>>>>>Jazz

damn we're headed straight for the lottery
unless we figure things out quick… i don’t imagine martin will be at his full potential until he has a true center to play through (in yao), also even though hes familiar with the offense- kmart and jeffries really need to learn the system
and I think he's still working out the kinks from his wrist surgery
we’re still seeing the real Kevin Martin
i think martin can play fine without yao.
that question is up to rick to run more plays for him though.

At this point, I’m fine with being lottery bound. I’d like to see what Jeffries, Hill, and Armstrong can contribute to this team to determine if they belong in our future. We also need to get Martin comfortable in whatever offense Adelman is running.

Functionally, there is actually very little difference between the 14th and 15th picks. Your chances of getting a top 3 pick are like, what, half of one percent? Less? I forget exactly but it’s some minuscule number not even worth considering.
I’d rather go to the playoffs anyway, but if you’re going to tank, you have to tank hard and get into the top ten picks. I just don’t see us managing to lose that many games.
still we found a good combination late in the 4th to make that run
martin/brooks and jeffries playing the pick and roll. the new guys look ready to contribute. Bud was hot whole game, had his first buzzer-beater
so I think we have a good team if we can eliminate our bad habits
in a way, the 4th quarter was an experiment for RA
he didn’t put in Scola or Hayes anymore, he let Jeffries play
now the puzzle is solved...
MARTIN, JEFFRIES,BUDINGER,SCOLA AND LOWRY.. i think this line up will make us win..thats my fearless forecast..
That's the thing about RA
I like him as a couch-I think he’s very good-but imo he really needs to keep the experimenting to the practices-particularly if none of these guys have played together before.
His subbing really frustrated me today as well….aka not playing Bud

yeah he should work seriously..
on rotations and proper player combination.. now weve got a lot of guys to work with.. alot of options.., a lot of different plays to make…so that we r not too predictable to other teams in terms of the same old set plays and patterns we execute..
I think
that once this team gets a long practice under their belts, the results will be much better / different. I honestly think we can beat Orlando on Wednesday if the guys work hard on what I imagine will be a Tuesday practice. Kevin is sort of standing around a lot; he’s not getting a lot of plays set up where he is moving with or without the ball. Plus, the rotations are all out of whack right now in terms of when Budinger, Battier, Scola, etc play. If the coaching staff can get a groundwork for the post-trade team laid out by the next practice, then we should start to see an upward trend in wins.
Wafer . . . again. (Marv Albert, HOU v. CLE Feb 2009)

Agreed
although I don’t see us beating Orlando-I’m usually optimistic, but after seeing them dismantle the all-mighty Cavs today, I seriously doubt we can beat them.
But we might surprise! we do seem to play up to our opponents-unfortunately

Here's what I don't get:
Luis Scola
6-11 FGM-A
11 TRB
12 PTS
24 minutes
Chase Budinger
7-11 FGM-A
3-5 3PM-A
5 TRB
18 PTS
23 minutes
Ariza needs to just sit out until his hip gets better—we have three other quality wings. Let him rest up and heal.
And Scola should simply have gotten a larger portion of the minutes out of the PF/C types. As well as he’s played this season and as well as he was playing tonight it doesn’t make much sense to me to limit him so much, especially with Landry now gone.
