No Rockets in all star Weekend
It's kind of sad that not a single Rocket has made All star Weekend.
Dunk Contest- Nate Rob, Gerald Wallace, Shannon Brown and Derozan/Gordan
3 Point Contest- Paul Pierce, Chauncey Billups, Daequan Cook, Curry, Danilo Gallinari and Channing Frye.
Skills Contest- Brandon Jennings, Steve Nash, Derrik Rose, Deron Williams
No Rocket made the allstar game or the rookies/sophomore either. Were any Rockets deserving of a place? Maybe Brooks in the skills/3 point shootout? I wonder how many teams have 0 players in the all star game
No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Do not cut/paste entire sections of content from other websites. Thanks.

yea that sucks i mean first off it’s in texas and no allstar i think chase should had a chance in the rookie game and maybe aaron in the skills so i will be missing this game cuz nobody is on the teams. Ok if chris paul is out who was the next gaurd in line to play?
seriously, though,
Dorsey was selected for the NBADL All-Stars, though he might not play (depends on whether or not he can).
Not nearly the same thing, but somebody might represent the Rockets during All-Star weekend.
I'd rather have a vacation
if i was a player. If i was playing in the NBA, i’d rather have a nice weekend with friends and family than be at another basketball game. Just curious, can a NBA player turn down to play in the all star game even if he was selected?
Not exactly.
But lots of guys have various “injuries” that keep them out. Hangnails. Allergies. Hurt feelings.
Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.
never mind, the team loves its overlooked underdog tag and seems to play better
when no one expects much from us
houston
has a very air of being underrated about it, from being passed up for the olympics because it doesnt have the “feel of an international city” or its sports teams being ignored, or the way hurricane ike directly hitting houston and the largely efficient rebuilding was shuffled to the back pages..its just part of being a houstonian and if anything it makes it that much more satisfying when we do something right, or something amazing. so relish it :P
I always say our motto should be
“Houston – not as bad as you think.”
Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.
“Houston: Cooler than those pricks in Dallas”
“Houston: Yes, Pasadena always smells like that”
“Houston: Gets shit done.”
"Houston – not as bad as you think."
Oddly enough, a Rice University pamphlet I once saw basically said exactly that on its cover. “Houston – a lot cooler than you thought”
I guess the comparison that could be made is that Houston is a larger, significantly more cosmopolitan Detroit or Pittsburgh (oh, but our commercial activity hasn’t collapsed, so there’s that). The city has a very working-class feel to it, and unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective, I suppose) that doesn’t really lend itself to tourism or media attention.
I like
“Houston – gets shit done.” Nobody wants a refinery, everybody wants gasoline.
And having lived in Houston and Dallas, yes, Houston is much more cosmopolitan, despite what Dallas thinks of itself. I do admire Dallas’ mass transit, though and it does retail better.
Houston is more open, diverse and generally harmonious than most cities its size, almost anywhere. Other places are quite self-congratulatory about that sort of thing, but Houston actually practices it.
The city has a “blue collar” rep, but honestly, I think we’re getting a bad rap for still, you know, having an industrial base. There’s plenty of white collar jobs, and the largest medical complex in the world, and good paying blue collar jobs too. This is a problem?
Of course, the climate is painful for most of the year, and there are effectively no tourist attractions, and no architecturally interesting place for visitors to congregate and spend money and that hurts perception. It’s a better place to live than visit.
Here’s a tourist attraction idea: cover the Astrodome and parking lot in solar panels (to run the AC) and make it a farmer’s market/specialty art/stuff market like Pike Place in Seattle or Granville Island in Vancouver. It’s still a cool space, there’s ample parking except for a few Sundays and rodeo, and it becomes a hip sort of focal point with a sort of bazaar set up on the “field” and permanent shops, restaurants and studios set up in the seats and concourses.

Medical
Houston is quickly becoming the worlds best medical town. So that should be hitting soon. But overall we are over looked. I remeber a few years ago watching a movie, I think the Digimon one (I was younger) and shocked that they actually mentioned Houston.
I think our bad rap is mainly internally. The rest of the world gives us more credit then we get in our own country. We are a key part of the world, but the rest of the country looks down on us.
I think what hurts us most on stuff like Olympics is the lack of mass transit.
houston is a great place to get a job
but its not a super sexy place to be.
no austin-esq 6th street
no L.A night life
no NY big city, and night life
no Miami beaches
i think if we get mass transit and a organised nightlife area houston will get alot more credit
AB should have been in the 3-pt shootout.
daequan cook is having a horrible year compared to brooks. the last game i saw him play, he missed 4 or 5 wide open shots.
Rockets>>>>>>Jazz
Texans>>>>>>>Titans
Super Mario>>>>>>>Vince Young
