Game 65: Rockets vs. Nuggets
Denver Nuggets at Houston Rockets, Mar 15, 2010 7:30 PM CDT
This isn't quite "must win," but the Rockets are at a point where losing any more games is going to all but destroy their hopes for the postseason. So, yeah, it's kinda must-win.

and AB sets the franchise record on consecutive games with a 3
Good thing, too, because Luther Head doesn’t really deserve a team record.
When was the last time that happened right?

"What is a Laker anyway? A sub-aquatic Quaker? It doesn't make sense."
They keep talking about Brooks's consecutive games with a 3.
How special can this record be if Luther Head had it? He wasn’t a consistent starter or lights-out shooter.
He was a fantastic 3 point shooter
then all of a sudden he started sucking

This is why I hate watching Denver games
Every time I have seen them play against any team they get a ridiculous amount of favoritism from the refs, whether at home or on the road. Especially Melo.
Melo is a superstar because of the calls he gets, he’s doesn’t get calls because he’s a superstar.
Every time I have seen them play against any team they get a ridiculous amount of favoritism from the refs
The other way to think of this is that their players are individually very good at drawing fouls.
The thing is, they constantly seem to be getting calls when there is no contact (like that clean Ariza steal that got called a foul). I don’t mind when players are good at drawing fouls, like Martin, by actually initiating contact… but when they flop or just get calls for no apparent reason, that bugs the heck out of me. This seems to happen many times in every Denver game I’ve seen.
I'm not sure who travels more
LeBron or Carmelo.
Either way, they both seem to have frequent flyer miles.

Calm down.
Yes, the refs have made some poor calls, but Carmelo Anthony is a superstar because he is very, very good.
I wonder
what the over/under will be for the number of freethrows between Martin and Melo
I’d put it around 35

I know it's been said on these here boards before.
But I like Hill. All of his problems are things that might be rookie related, and all of his skills are hard to come by.
he's certainly coming into his own
needs to improve (a lot) on the defensive end, but he’s clearly more than the Knicks thought he was.
he is playing great post defense on nene right now though.

yeah, but we’re not up to the level of the top tier teams yet
this will be a good learning experience whatever the outcome.
we lost the lead because we went too lng with Hayes, we gave up so many offensive boards
That'd be an offensive problem
But how do you manage to give up 31 pts in 10 min?
by Carlos_HoustonSportsFanatic on Mar 15, 2010 9:20 PM CDT up reply actions
But how do you manage to give up 31 pts in 10 min?
1) Fast pace
2) #2 Offense in the NBA
3) Average defense
Average defense is an overstatement.
Change is the only constant
by nick.twizzle on Mar 15, 2010 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions
we didn't manage our possessions well when the 3rd quarter began
Ariza started jacking up shots. We lost the battle of the boards. And Chauncey and Melo got going. AB, KM, and LS trying to keep pace but we need to make some stops
Brooks is just burning the Nuggget's D
"What is a Laker anyway? A sub-aquatic Quaker? It doesn't make sense."
He's only melo, not Jordan
we should be doubling him if needed. there’s always something that can be done, and we gotta find out what it is and do it.

And like I said, I actually think we are playing defense.

We can always do a better job

by Carlos_HoustonSportsFanatic on Mar 15, 2010 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions
the other team is trying to get the rebound, too, you know
it’s not really as simple as saying “we need to get the rebound.” They’re a good o-rebounding team.
so you're saying we were doomed from the start?
That there was nothing we could do to stop them
by Carlos_HoustonSportsFanatic on Mar 15, 2010 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions
not necessarily
but very little is going to change the basic fact that the Nuggets are better rebounders than the Rockets. Shit happens, but it’s something you’re going to have to deal with.
No.
He’s saying they are a very good team, and that over the course of a 48-minute game they’ll probably beat us six times out of ten. We were lights out in the first half and put up 135 points per 100 possessions, sustaining that over 48 minutes is damn near impossible. We’ve regressed to the mean, they’ve started pushing the ball and crashing the boards, and this is the result.
here they come, denver just shooting lights out
but we can’t get discouraged, need to keep playing on both ends
Can we get Jeff Van Gundy
To do a defense 101 workshop????

I think
he probably deserves most of Battier’s minutes tonite. I’m not sure if its just me, but Battier isn’t sticking to the shooter as much as he used to with guys like Kobe. He used to actually jump up and get into Kobe’s face during shots. Tonight he seems content with just staying in front of Melo while Melo jumps right over him. Bud’s offense might make it a worthy tradeoff.

would you dare to make a call against a team with both J.R. Smith and Chris Andersen?
without landry
the above the rim replays have become incredibly bland
He had one a couple weeks ago.
I forget what game. There was also some video on Rockets.com of him dunking in a scrimmage and then subbing himself out.

I’ve been saying this for awhile… that you’ve been able to see rapid and impressive progress in AB’s ability to stop and pop and hit that mid-range jumper. He has tremendous basketball IQ in terms of knowing what he needs to work on and improve; he has been working on his playmaking, as well, I’ve noticed. This is why I don’t understand when people say they think he has reached his ceiling—how could they think that when he has already shown such marked improvement from where he was at in the first third of the season?
People are still at Toyota Center partying
