Rockets vs. Pistons Recap

Another enigma added to the colossal enigma that has been the Rockets season. First we start the season playing much better than anyone could have ever anticipated, then we have a slump and once we actually do get better we struggle, although it is understandable to some degree with the team's chemistry changing I guess some time is necessary. Unfortunately when it comes down to it other teams won't go easy on the Rockets simply because they've got new players and need to adjust. Excuses don't equal results, that being said I sadly don't see the Rockets making the playoffs this year. Which is okay seeing as how this upcoming draft is relatively well endowed, and with Yao back next year, Jordan Hill with a year under his belt, not mention everyone else I fully expect us to contend. Sure we might lose Luis Scola who is a very underrated player, fortunately this is one of the best times to let him go. He is 30 years old, and will probably ask for contract in the neighborhood of 5-7million spanning anywhere from 3-5 years. Do we really want to make that kind of commitment in a 30 year old? And now to the actual recap of the game!

The Rockets began the game well in fact they played well for about 3 and 3/4 quarters. Kevin Martin was somewhat efficient with 27 pts on 8 of 18 shooting which amounts to .444 he was 9 for 9 from the free throw line which is pretty good, Aaron Brooks had 25 pts going 10 for 23 and 2 for 10 in 3pt attempts, now Scola on the other hand was a beast plain and simple, he accumulated 20 pts and 15 reb all while shooting .533 percent from the field. We just could NOT hit any shots down the stretch and that is what it came down to, this wasn't a horrible game for either team, disappointing but not horrible. It was a close one and we lost in the end there is nothing to do but move on and try to add a few more wins in the win column. Jordan Hill had his best outing as a Rocket, perhaps his best outing as an NBA player. His stat line was an average 12 points and 8 rebounds. He did this in a abridged amount of playing time 23 minutes. I liked what I saw from him good hustle decent scoring. Which kind of makes you wonder why hasn't he seen more action? It's awfully hard to measure someone when they average around 8 minutes a game. Even though Jordan Hill is still inconsistent and a little raw it is my belief that he should start over Chuck Hayes, yes Chuck Hayes is stronger, yes he plays better defense but that's it folks! He doesn't have the athleticism, size, nor post moves that J Hill has, and yes they might be limited post moves but it's either limited or none! Thanks for your time ladies and gentlemen.

Something about me is that I like to listen to music... A lot and so with every post there will be a song of the post to go a long with it. Todays song is Drake - OverA song off of his new album Thank Me Later.

If we're demoting Chuck just to give guys experience...

…then I’d rather we start Andersen. But in general I think what we’re doing now is perfect: start Chuck and as the playoffs get farther from view give more PT to the developing guys. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hill in the 15-20 minute range (from the bench) for the rest of the season.

Fun fact: this is what NY should have been doing all year.

Yes but

Derek Andersen has already reached his peak, as to where Jordan Hill is full of potential and playing time for him much more vital. Not to mention that Derek Andersen is too soft and yao will need someone who is a bit more aggressive to play along side him

Sorta agree

What you say is true but hangs on large IFS, Jordan Hill has a few times over the potential that David Andersen does. Jordan hill started playing organized basketball in 9th grade, he missed his junior year of basketball, what im saying is that he is late bloomer and is still learning, his ceiling is much higher than Andersen’s which makes him a better investment in playing time. Also Andersen is too soft, soft big man rarely have success in the NBA

Wait just a minute

One breakout game does not make an NBA career people. Yes, Jordan Hill has more potential than either David Andersen or Luis Scola does at this point, but that’s because Hill’s what, 22 or 23 years old and Scola and Andersen are both pushing 30. The truth is, we need to keep Luis Scola (yes, it’ll be a hard pill to swallow at 3 years/21 million, but its necessary we make the move).

David has solid offensive game, but he’s too inconsistent on a night-to-night basis. As far as I’m concerned, Rick needs to OPEN UP the rotation once Lowry and Ariza return so that it looks as follows (these are the guys who should get minutes at these positions):

PG: Brooks and Lowry
SG: Martin and Budinger
SF: Battier, Ariza and Budinger
PF: Scola, Hill and Battier
C: Hayes, Andersen and Hill

Jared Jeffries gets minutes based on matchups. Thoughts?

In Daryl Morey, Rick Smith and Ed Wade we (usually) trust.

I agree.

We’ve had more problems as Adelman has settled on a rotation, rather than riding the hot hand, letting the bench win games. Of course much of the bench was Landry, and he’s gone, and Lowry has been hurt.

Maybe when Lowry returns we can get that high tempo attack unit out there again, with Kyle, Budinger, Ariza, Hill and Andersen. No, they won’t play much D, but they’ll probably destroy another bench unit.

Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.

I think injuries have hurt the rotation the most

I didn’t see the Washington game, but I saw the box score and was pleasantly surprised to see BOTH Trevor Ariza and Kyle Lowry get minutes. Scola played 41 minutes though. While I was one of the guys campaigning for Luis to get more minutes, I meant somewhere in the neighborhood of 34-36…not 43-44.

Jordan Hill needs more minutes!

We saw a lot of guys get minutes.

Also, Jordan Hill is starting to look very impressive. Very impressive.

I agree one game definitely doesn’t make you good, I never said that it did. I’m simply saying that he should get more playing time in order to develop it isn’t like he could do much worse than Chuck Hayes(in the past 11 games chuck hayes hasnt gotten over 5 rebounds) and as you said David Andersen is inconsistent, so is Jordan Hill but at least with Jordan Hill playing the rockets are giving themselves a better future. I’m all for keeping Luis Scola I just don’t think that Daryl Morey would make a move like that but that’s just me. Your lineup looks okay i will say that ariza and battier are interchangeable.

I think we see a lot of Hill if we're definitely out.

As for Andersen, I don’t know why he’s been buried lately. He looked good a few times. Some sort of dispute, or undisclosed injury perhaps.

Significant gravitas shortfall expected in 2010.
