Tomorrow is Easter. Yesterday was Good Friday. Why not have something to celebrate in between?
Ladies and gentlemen, it's Rodney Carney Day.
If you remember this post from April 3rd of last year, I can guarantee you that if The Dream Shake ever appears as a category on Jeopardy!, you'll be the easy favorite to sweep. I was scrolling through old posts at 4:00 AM today in the midst of a road trip back from Panama City, Florida to good ol' Columbia. We're in Blytheville, Arkansas, by the way. And then I remembered. It's Rodney Carney Day.
One year ago today, Rodney Carney and the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Utah Jazz at home to give the Rockets a better chance at getting a higher playoff seed. I must have been excited, because I pulled out the giant bold italic font. And then I used three exclamation points. You don't see that every day.
Utah lost at home to the Timberwolves!!!
The Timberwolves' improbable victory didn't change a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. But at the time, it was a monumental achievement. Carney had 25 points, and the Wolves embarrassed the Jazz on their own floor. I have daydreams about this moment, only with myself in Carney's shoes. Picture Henry Roengardner playing basketball.
If you can find a better reason for a holiday... actually, never mind, you won't. This is the king of them all.
Oh, and the Rockets just beat the Celtics on the road. Without Yao Ming, Kevin Martin, and Shane Battier. Nice.
