Bosh to Houston More Likely
Now that we know the Raptors have the thirteenth pick, i went to ESPN and checked out the mock draft and it seems that the Raptors will pick Whiteside, who is listed as a Bosh type player (same position, and superstar potential)...now, if this happens, it just makes a Bosh trade to Houston an even sweeter deal, especially if we trade scola as the centerpiece...the Raps get an established PF and will have a future triple double threat breeding....

I mostly pay attention to the Texans, so...
Could anyone explain to me NBA free agency? Why do we have to trade for unrestricted free agents?
I understand in football the league compensates for the loss of players with draft picks, is this something like that?
A simplified version:
The league doesn’t compensate anyone for anything.
The salary cap structure is such that you can’t sign a player if the amount you sign that player for puts you over the cap, unless you use an exception. However, you can trade your own players for another player even if the resulting increase in salary puts you over the cap, as long as the sides of the trade are approximately equal in salary.
One exception is that you can sign your own players for amounts that put you over the cap.
Since the Rockets are over the salary cap (or close enough to it), they can’t sign Bosh outright. It would put them over the salary cap. What they can do is trade for him.
So even though Bosh is a free agent, he can negotiate a deal under which he re-signs with Toronto and then Toronto trades him to Houston for Rockets players. Bosh would agree to this because it allows him to go to the team he wants (in this scenario: Houston) for more money. Toronto would agree to this because they get something in return for an unrestricted free agent who has told them he’s leaving anyway. Houston would agree to this (in this scenario) because they get a player they would be unable to sign outright.
I thought it might be a salary cap thing...
Thanks for the help with that. I think maybe “finagling” should be made the official term for this maneuvering.
The other factor that comes into play is "max contract"
The current team with a player who is becoming a free agent sign that player to a maximum salary contract that offers an extra year – worth around $20 million. Players obviously want this extra year. A lot. This is where we get “Sign and Trade”. A player’s current club will often sign that player to a max contract with the extra “home team” year, then trade that player to another team. That way the player can go to a new club AND get 6 years in a max deal, instead of 5.
Obviously the “home club” wants something for its efforts on the “sign and trade” and salaries have to match, as above.
"Each in turn... volunteered his suggestions, his invaluable suggestions."
Even if they get Whiteside, they will still want Hill over Scola.
"You got to believe in yourself. Hell, I believe I'm the best-looking guy in the world and I might be right."- Charles Barkley
I know people think Hill is the second coming of Dream...
but with Yao having probably a 2 to 3 year window wouldn’t we really rather have Scola anyway, as he is an establishes badass while Hill still has much to learn
who else would be in the deal
from the rockets and the raptors
GO ROCKETS, GO TEXANS, GO ASTROS (EVEN THOUGH THEY SUCK)!!!
I don't know.
It still comes down to if Bosh wants to sign here. Actually this might be a detriment. Toronto might not value Hill as much if they get Whiteside, and we might have to throw in someone we didn’t want to.

Wouldn't getting a Bosh replacement in the draft...
Make a deal LESS likely? If they can go and draft what we’re offering and the only other thing we can really do is offer expiring contracts and a couple other youngsters, I see Toronto feeling more confident in asking a higher price for Bosh (Eg take on Turkgolu’s contract as part of the rebuilding process). Consider me insane or pessimistic, that’s just how I see it.
I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.
So
Last time I checked, the ESPN mock draft wasn’t written by Bryan Colangelo.
Plus, its not like they don’t need a solid back up big right now.
"Hip-Thrust!"
if we do get bosh
The most likely package would be bud, hill, our pick, one of our picks next year, jeffries and battier. Wed probably beg for them to buy out Battier, and they’d probably acquiesce but that’s the most reasonable (and attractive) package.

this seems ok with me except for Bud
being able to maybe resign Shane immediately would be great but bud, hill and two picks seems like completely killing our future for one guy. Granted Bosh is still relatively young too, but I just remember the pain of loosing Cassell and Horry to get a “star” in the “reclining legend” of Sir Charles
dont ban me from TDS fro saying this but...
i have a bad feeling the freakin Utah Jizz have a good shot at getting Bosh. I have no base for this but i just have a bad feeling.
GO ROCKETS, GO TEXANS, GO ASTROS (EVEN THOUGH THEY SUCK)!!!
would you want to live in Salt Lake City over Houston? If you like mountains and LDS maybe
I guess D Williams and Millsap are not terrible players as far as bball skills are but what else is there. (maybe if you like skinny russians crying in front of you)
I think Boozer is going to leave, and even if he stayed, is there room for Bosh, Millsap and Boozer. No reason to have all three and all three are probably going to want starting minutes anyway. Maybe the db’s in Utah trade Millsap for Bosh with some other picks etc thrown in… but I always thought that Utah had problems attracting players to Utah, which is why so many intl players ended up there and why they only got Boozer because the Cavs were screwing him about resigning him
I may be wrong but that was my understanding. If thats true my guess Bosh would prefer Houston, or many other places rather than Utah
