The Big Tease

Portland has Rip City , Houston has Clutch City , I think it’s time that Dallas rightfully gets a new nickname for the repetitious theme they seem to follow. I was going to go with “ Choke City ”, but the Mav’s aren’t quite there just yet. I think a better suitor would have to be “The Big Tease”. I mean think of how Dallas fans have entered the off-season for the past several years...just completely let down after yet another great regular season which routinely follows a disappointing post season. I'm sure the fans realize that they are the first #2 seeded team to be ousted in the first round since the playoff series expanded to 7 games. And I'm sure this didn't remind everyone of their collapse as the first team since the expanded playoffs to be ousted as a #1 seed in the first round a few years ago...oh wait. The Mav’s always have huge potential at the beginning of every year and they are always “supposed” to go deep into the playoffs. And it’s not necessarily the Mav’s fault that they have all this high expectation for success. Other people like so called experts, the fans or even Mark Cuban decides that “this is our year”. I thought so too, especially after the trade deadline when they finally got a big man in Brendan Haywood who can really defend in the paint against the likes of Tim Duncan, or so we thought. And then they got Caron Butler, a guy who can score the ball well and defend guys like Kobe , but I guess the guy who can’t even breathe out of his broken nose proved too much for Mr. Butler. If that’s not enough, how about this for motivation…Dirk can opt out of his contract if he doesn’t want 21.5 mil next year. I wouldn’t blame him if he tested the FA market, and neither can the fans or Cuban. Haywood is now a FA and Kidd will be 38 by next year’s playoffs and Marion will be 32 next month. It seems the only bright spot for the Mav’s future is the semi break out of Rodrigue Beaubois. Dirk will be 32 next year and he will have to decide if he can give it one more go as the franchise player on a more than likely worse team than this year. It seems inevitable that a rebuilding phase will be knocking on Mark Cuban’s door sooner than later. But who knows, because next year will be “The Year” right?

Consider yourself 'reduculed'

…and on top of that, I’ll drop in a heapin’ helpin’ of ridicule as well.

Just your average, run of the mill hardcore casual Texans fan.

i love when Dallas fails too...

I just don’t understand people who like Dallas. Nothing against them personally. Its not like they are communists or vegetarians (i guess that is redundant) or anything I just have never liked Dallas. Going out there just feels a bit too plastic for my taste. Give me Houston humidity any day.

read the article on nbadraft.net about the mavs.. it makes so much sense. the mavs are built for the regular season not the post season because they spend so much money on player 8 thru 15 while teams who invest more money on their core players are better suited for the playoffs.. since the mavs have a well rounded team they can make it thru an 82 game season with injuries and bad games because they are evenly talented but when it comes to the playoffs outside of your top 7 or 8 no1 else plays. the mavs have over 8 million dollars in salaries for ppl who dont even dress out for games.they are blowing money on the wrong things

but

dallas still has a pretty high salary for players that play, as opposed to many other teams. and they did get to the finals recently, so we have nothing on them. They beat us in a 7 game series even after we beat them on the road……twice. I hate the mavs and cowboys mainly cuz their owners are cuntbags

And please

dont forget to mention their choke in the finals, after the first 2 games and what looked like game 3 until the 3rd quarter, it seemed like they would win the championship all ready. THEN DWADE GOT THE BROOM OUT AND SWEPT THEIR BUTTS OFF THE FINALS

the dallas mavericks do not have nothing on us. they have never won a championship. just getting there and losing 4 str8 games to me means nothing. yes they do have high salary all around because of mark cubans “i want to win now approach”. i mean they traded of a star in devin harris and fired an excellent coach in avery johnson. they go thru to many mkaeovers from season to season and dirks best bet is to get out of their while he still has a shot at winning a ring.

why do you think Avery is an excellent coach? He pretty much inherited that team. My mom could have coached that team and made the playoffs.

by Mellowman on May 28, 2010 8:28 AM CDT reply actions

he has won73% of the games he has coached

u have to respect him as coach he was the 1st coach to win back to back coach of the months making him the 1st coach to do tht in rookie coaching. he also won the coach of the year in 2006. he reached the hundred wins mark the fastest. he took his team to the finals in his 1st yr coaching.

do you know how many coaches have won coach of the year and been fired in the past few years after they won the award? Avery, Byron Scott, Dantoni, Mitchell, and latest Mike Brown.
This team was already amazing when he took over. I don’t have to respect him just like i don’t respect Mike Brown. I respect guys like Scott Brooks who takes a bad team from last year which did’t change much as far as the roster to this year and makes them amazing. Or guys like Adelman and McMillan whos teams do well despite major injuries to their teams.

ur crazy..

winning coach of the year and being fired does not mean tht u r not a good coah.. can u understand tht concept. mike brown failed to utilize his players the right way and thts why he was fired. he was the wrong coach for the team. and every coach u named is coaching or is going to be coaching again. and scoot brooks did a good job but u have to understand tht his players matured and got better with their age.

by sluball on May 28, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions

Well only one of those guys is currently coaching right now. Yes being fired doesn’t necessarily mean you are a bad coach i get your point, but it doesn’t help regardless. My point was that Avery got somewhat lucky by taking on a team that was already supposed to go deep into the playoffs. Yeah he get his team to the finals, but look what happened next year against golden state. Can you understand that concept? Let him build a team from the ground for a few years and then if he has that sort of success again, i will def respect him. I just don’t always trust a regular season record or “coach of the month”, coaching in the playoffs is more important and his playoff record is under .500. But i guess in the end it’s all a matter of opinion so oh well.

i definently respect ur points
