Nice

No brained as far as I’m concerned. A (healthy) Chuck for $2.34m? Bargain.

I never thought about it, but it is interesting that we didn’t extend Lowry or Scola last year. Hopefully that doesn’t bite us in the ass this offseason.

I hope we arent paying more than 2 mil

Even one cent more is not worth it to me. You could find a defensive specialist for cheaper IMO.

Did you know Eric Berry was asexually produced by Chuck Norris?

Ok

I totally misunderstood. For a second I thought we signed him long term. Good, we could probably use him this season. I dont think 2.34 mil is a bargain though.

Plus, I think Chuck is more than a defensive specialist. He’s not only good, but he’s the best player on our roster at a number of skills.

Yes

like freethrow comedy-a skill in which he is an expert. On a more serious note i’m very happy we are retaining the Chuckwagon at least for one more year. He plays harder than probably anyone on our team. He’s a terrific locker room presence. His leadership is irreplaceable. And he played all 82 games for us this year-with that cantaloupe of a knee.

btw…love the sig. That short vid was hilarious,

I know!

Those guys are so freakin’ hilarious, and they know the game well too.

Did you watch the Lebron's Elbow Speaks one?

Died laughing. And anyone who does not watch TBJ-well you should. If you call yourself a fan of the game, the Jones is a must watch.

Big men get paid

Competent big men back-ups who aren’t ancient get pd fairly well.
Gortat got the MLE and Orlando matched.
Turaif,Pachulia,Bass@$4mil

For a player who’s been the starter or first big off the bench for past several yrs,Hayes is a bargain. David Andersen will make a tad more than Chuck. This gives the Rockets an offensive and defensive option off the bench and even if you add Bud’s salary to theirs, just barely will equal the MLE.

FWIW,once Chuck’s salary is guaranteed before june 30,he can then be traded from July 1 on.

GJ

This is a great move by DM to keep a smart, hardworking player. If Chuck wasn’t there who would lead the Rockets and play defense???

No Bosh,still better

Realize this isn’t the right place, but I’m at work and there’s nothing to do so I’m going to compare the Rockets at beginning of 09/10 to a tradeless, everybody re-signed 10/11 team.

09/10 Rockets
Brooks,Ariza,Battier,Scola and Hayes starting,
Lowry,Bud,Landry,Andersen as the bench.
Taylor learning

10/11 Rockets
Brooks,Martin,Ariza,Scola,Yao
Lowry,Bud,Battier,Hill,Andersen/Hayes/Jeffries as the bench
Taylor,First Rd rookie developing

Starters.
PG. Brooks of 10/11 has a yr of experience on 09/10 Brooks,so should be better.
Wings. Martin replaces Battier. Vastly superior offense, much worse defense.
Ariza as superb complementary player replaces Ariza trying to be the man. Big upgrade.
PF. Scola of 01/11 should be pretty much the same as 09/10 Scola. Except, the Rockets finally realized that Scola can carry the team if needed.
C. Yao replaces Hayes. Huge Upgrade.

Bench.
PG. Lowry is slowly developing a 3pt shot. That and an extra yr running Adelman’s system should make the 10/11 Lowry better than the 09/10 Lowry.
Wings. Last yr it was a rookie Bud and Lowry/Brooks.
The 10/11 group has a Bud w/a yr under his belt, adds Battier as a vet presence and defensive player that the bench lacked last yr,Lowry/Brooks and a possibly getting it together Taylor. Just having Battier makes the wings improved as there was no defender available in 09/10. And if JT can contribute passing, some D and scoring, the wings off the bench will be much improved.
Bigs. Landry and Andersen have been replaced by Hill,Andersen,Hayes and Jeffries.
Landry and Andersen were capable scorers but not very good defensively. The 10/11 Rockets have two defensive players in Hayes and Jeffries who have different strengths. Hayes can defend the physical PFs and Cs and Jeffries has the quickness and height to guard the more agile PFs and Cs. Andersen should be better for having a season in the NBA and also in being teamed w/a better defender than Landry.
Hill is already a better defender than Landry and displayed a decent passing touch. He is nowhere near as accomplished a scorer as Landry.
Overall the Rocket 10/11 big man reserves offer Adelman defensive options he didn’t have last yr,a couple of mobile tall bigs(Hill,Jeffries) that he can use as anchor of small line-ups he didn’t have last yr(see Hill/jeffries,Ariza,Bud,Lowry and Brooks units he was fielding at end of season) and the loss of a go-to scorer in Landry.

Summing up.
The 10/11 Rocket starters will be far superior offensively w/Martin and Yao replacing Hayes and Battier and weaker defensively in the backcourt.
The 10/11 bench is much more versatile, giving Adelman speed and defensive options he did not have while losing the 4Q scoring potential of Landry.(Although 4Q scoring should not be too big an issue w/Yao and Martin.)
As is,the 10/11 Rockets are far more potent offensively, deeper defensively, taller and more athletic than the 09/10 Rockets.
