Please tell me what you think (POLL)

So my brother calls me this morning while I'm at work and we get to arguing about the Rockets (as usual) and one of us feels like the Rockets are title contenders just by adding a healthy Yao Ming back to an up and coming young and talented squad. The other one of us feels like we would not be able to contend in the West without making a splash either now or during the season. Lets weigh the options, shall we.....

Right now on paper, we have one of the more talented rosters in the NBA loaded two deep at about every position. Most of our players are still young and improving so we don't really know what we have yet which could be a good or a bad thing. We could potentially have a team that could give the Lakers hell with our depth or a team that could have an early exit in the playoffs. Our team hasn't played a game together yet we are trying to find ways to trade away a product we essentially know nothing about. We could just let our chemistry develop with Yao back. Since most of our players are either in their prime or entering their prime it could be a good idea to let them play together and see what you got. Think about it, we barely missed the playoffs with Yao playing 0 games. If it weren't for some mid-season injuries we might have made it. Now lets add a presumably healthy Yao Ming to a young and explosive back court, a super blue collar front court, and maybe the most athletic bench in the league and you just might have a contender especially with how hard everyone plays. The problem with all of this is we just cannot rely on the big fella to stay healthy and we don't know what this unproven team is capable of. To be fair they also haven't had a chance to prove themselves.

We could also make a blockbuster trade getting one of the elite players in the league, only problem is we may have to give up way too much. Depending on who we give up it could really put us over the top making us the front runners in the West. Who wouldn't want that for a change. As we all know trades are made to improve your team, not to be the same or just slightly better. The person we target would have to make up for the players (skill wise) we use in the trade. Of course they would or they wouldn't be elite. Another thing is salaries have to match and we don't have bad contracts besides Jared Jeffries. We do have young assets but they are mostly on their rookie contracts still so we may have to include more youngsters than we want. Mortgaging your future for a chanceat getting a title is bitter sweet. Sure you win the title, but what about after that? No one is getting any younger (Yao). It really depends on the coveted player and the contract they receive. At the same time though, pairing most of these elite guys with Yao Ming could almost guarantee us a ring or two. Can you imagine how good we would be with another superstar? A deep as we are though we could still have enough role players to keep us in contention Don't forget Rick Adelman gets the most out of his players. Problem is, can the big fella stay healthy long enough and who on our current roster would be involved in any of the deals. To be fair you gotta give up something to get something in return.

You see guys, it is just too complicated of a situation to have a concrete feel for it. Either way you must roll the dice and take a chance one way or another. Which chance do you think you could bare the consequences of more easily? Which chance do you think has the better success rate. Which chance has a better chance of winning? Which chance has a better chance of failing? I don't know you tell me.....
