Welcome Back, Luis Scola!

On behalf of The Dream Shake, I would like to formally apologize to you, Luis Scola. I am so sorry that we tried to trade you 800 times this past year. We meant no harm and hope that you understand. If need be, I'll stop saying that you look like Russell Brand just to make you happy (but really, Luis, you totally look like Russell Brand).

We are looking forward to great things this year and in the coming five years with the Slayer running the 4. So, once again...

So glad he’s a part of our team, he really wants to be a Rocket. Said it’s the only team he wants to play for. Welcome back. I will wear my Scola wig every game this season

Scola, however, came much closer to leaving than Lowry
Scola, however, said Thursday he was close to accepting an offer to return to Tau Vitoria in the Spanish league, where he had been the Rookie of the Year in 1999-2000 and the league MVP in 2004-05 and 2006-07 when he was unable to reach an agreement with the San Antonio Spurs, who had drafted him in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft.

He said he was prepared to move on, but remaining with the Rockets was his first choice.

That was a close one…

It's relative

the cost of living is generally provided by the club, the stronger Euro, etc… I think that’s why Euro clubs do get attention, they pamper players and offer you money that’s more valuable in places we consider vacation places.

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

yea it was but he wasnt leaving his beloved Rockets ;)

glad he's back...

his low post game is a thing of beauty.

by lfe159 on Jul 15, 2010 10:46 PM CDT reply actions

Exactly

Fighting with Fisher about that elbow and fighting with Sasha about whose hair was cooler. Scola is awesome. He’s the only guy I don’t make a rude comment about when he puts his hair behind his ear all the time.

he just kills taller more athletic and springy guys in the paint and dazzle them

with his spin moves it is hilarious, I remember Scola put move after move on Rasheed in Boston and he was trying his best to block Luis shot but failed and was in disbelief lmao.. that Boston game was my fave of the year the entire TEAM played incredible.. Lowry was kicking ass, Hill abused Perkins lol Bud did his thing, Chuck Hayes stopped Pierce in regulation which was amazing and AB finished them off with clutch shots, euphoric game ;)

A little over-paid but w/e

We are going to be tied up for the next 3-5 years with Martin, Scola, Lowry, nd probably Brooks and Yao being locked up. Hopefully Yao takes a pay cut.

by DREAM34 on Jul 16, 2010 1:37 AM CDT reply actions

If you factor in the past 3 years when he was underpaid, the amount is just right!!!

I love Luis; he didn’t shop around in the NBA because he only wants our team. Now let’s go get a championship!

by RoxBeliever on Jul 16, 2010 2:33 AM CDT reply actions

i pray he stays healthy for all 5 years.

This contract sort of ties us up long term. I mean its not a tmac ball buster. But still longterm deal for a guy in his 30s already.

by AK1111 on Jul 16, 2010 4:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Scola is pretty durable.

He’s played 82 games 3 straight seasons

Great to hear Scola signs with the rockets…the SMB combo… of Scola, Martin, and Brooks
will reign supreme… Go Rockets!

by CONAIR on Jul 16, 2010 4:04 AM CDT reply actions

I like this deal a lot

Just remember, 5 or 6 years ago the Rockets would have lost him to somebody at 12-12.5 million a year. So this is a great deal given the salary cap was better than expected. The Rockets have a TON of assets right now and the luxury tax is paid on the final roster, not on it’s highest point (someone correct me if I’m wrong).

I was happy with anything under 10. Scola skills, baring injury will be damn good at the end of this contract too.

by UofTOrange on Jul 16, 2010 7:04 AM CDT reply actions

Pretty sure

you are correct on the way the tax is assessed.

Also, glad others agree on my statement that Scola’s skills will still be sharp because he doesn’t play an overly explosive game or anything.

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

by BD34 on Jul 16, 2010 8:22 AM CDT up reply actions

yup he doesnt rely solely on athleticism ala Dwight Howard

he better develop some skills if he wana have a productive end of career

Rockets-Texans-Dynamo-Longhorn fan.. used to be Astros too, but not sure there a pro team anymore

by HB23 on Jul 16, 2010 1:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Not too much

Don’t just look at the $47 Million figure. The final year isn’t guaranteed. So, if he declines and the team doesn’t pick up his option for the fifth year, the REAL contract is basically 4 years at $36 Million with whatever the buyout is for the fifth year. I’ll take it.

by Mike Kerns on Jul 16, 2010 8:05 AM CDT reply actions

oh wow,

great deal. He gets paid and we protect ourselves from a potential toxic contract.

by AK1111 on Jul 16, 2010 4:58 PM CDT up reply actions

woooooo!

Scola almost left to go back to the Spanish league? Only one thing I can say to that:

America, Fuck Yeah!

Welcome back, Luis. As a hustle-oriented, ground-based PF, I’m not worried about your value in your Age 34 year as I would for most other NBA players. This contract is not going to be a problem!

by grungedave on Jul 16, 2010 8:48 AM CDT reply actions

Scola worth $47 million

at least to the Rockets! he earned every penny of it, from the way he was playing every game last 2 years!

welcome back! Scola! now been a teamplayer, give us a mohawk!!!! :)

don't bully me, i am from the D(etroit)!!!

Just throwing this out there

I’d go gay for Luis Scola, he is a beautiful and talented man. If you disagree, you’re lying.

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

by BD34 on Jul 16, 2010 9:57 AM CDT reply actions

would you go gay for Sebastian Abreu or Russell Brand, too?

Because then we might have a problem.

To be perfectly honest

Russel Brand, yes. Sebastian Abreu, no. Every man has a right to have a short list of men they would let ravage them. Who would turn down Ryan Reynolds, come on man.

So let's get this straight.

Those POSs always wanted to play together since 2008 because they could be Super Cool Bros together, but Riley’s a genius because he somehow persuaded them. Oh, and he unloaded all contracts before 2010, which anyone could have done.
